Continuing with an excerpt from my book Fiendish and I'm picking up again with that. The excerpt picks up in the middle of chapter 3 and I will continue til the end of the chapter.

Last week we finished up dinner and they were leaving the restaurant so Seth could take Calida home. The previous excerpts had been in Seth's POV, this week picks up where the chapter changes over to Calida. It will remain in her voice for the rest of the chapter.

I mentally chastised myself as I sat in Seth’s car. I couldn't believe I thought he was going to kiss me! I couldn't believe I wanted it, but I knew better. He was being polite spending the evening with me. I was not the kind of woman that was normally on his radar.“Where to?” Seth asked, as he slid onto the plush leather seat. His car was nice, very nice, which let me know he was even further out of my league.“Um, you can just drop me at the Lenox Station.”

Last week we got to the end of dinner and Seth let Calida know that he would not allow her to pay for her meal. This week we pick up with them at the tail of the date getting ready for the ride home.

“Thank you,” she said, putting her wallet away.“My pleasure.”
She cut her eyes over at me when I placed my hand on the small of her back to guide her out to my car. When we got to my car, I leaned closer as I reached to open the door for her. Calida’s eyes widened a bit, and her tongued licked her bottom lip briefly before she drew the corner of it into her mouth. I leaned a little closer and saw her swallow hard, then saw the flutter of disappointment when I opened the door and waited for her to get in.I smiled as I walked around to the driver’s side. This was going to be fun.

Last week Seth realized he hit another nerve when asking why she moved to Atlanta. He's trying to solve the possible mystery behind her reaction while she's in the restroom.

Her shy demeanor made me want to study her outside of the confines of my basement. For now at least
“Sorry about that,” Calida apologized quietly, sliding back into the booth. “Would you like dessert?” I asked, smiling at her.“No thank you, I’m stuffed.” I signaled for the waitress to bring us the check. Calida pulled her wallet out of her jacket pocket but paused when she saw me frowning at her. The waitress returned with the check, and I handed her my credit card without taking my eyes off of Calida.

Last week Calida had started to relax a bit but Seth hit a sore spot when he asked about her sister. We pick up with more dinner conversation.

She was very animated when she talked about her parents, but then got embarrassed when she mentioned wanting to find a relationship like theirs one day.
Calida attempted to ask me questions, but I successfully steered the conversation back to her whenever they got too personal. “So what made you move to this wonderful city?” I inquired. The smile that previously graced her face faded away. Her eyes dropped to the table then she quietly excused herself for a moment.I contemplated what could be the story behind that reaction while I waited for her to return. This was the first time I’d spent this kind of time with a subject. There would be some type of first encounter, maybe a second, but never to this extent.

We left off last week with Calida agreeing to stay and have 'linner' with Seth after an encouraging text from her friend Macy. Let's see how the date goes.

“Yes there is,” she agreed, laughing again. It was a lovely sound, and her entire face lit up when she did it.        Over the course of the meal, Calida started to relax. She tended to ramble when she got nervous, which worked for me since I was able to get a lot of information out of her. I learned she and Macy were out celebrating her new job. At twenty-five, she was the younger of two children, her sister being eleven years older. Her mood shifted a bit when I inquired about her sister. I didn’t push for more information, I didn’t want her closing up on me, but I could tell it was not a friendly relationship.

In the previous installments, Calida and Seth have seen each other again for the first time since their initial meeting. Calida's friend Macy has invited Seth to have dinner with them, only to ditch Calida once they arrive at the restaurant. We pick up with Calida trying to figure out what to do on this impromptu date.

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4

Her phone buzzed, bringing the screen to life. The reply from her friend popped up instantly before she could block it.live a little. :)A small grin tugged at the corner of her mouth when she read it. Taking a deep breath, she slid the phone into her pocket then looked up at me.“I would enjoy having lunch. Dinner? Linner? Oh my goodness, did I just say linner?” Calida asked, giggling.“Yes, I believe you did,” I replied, laughing as well. “Guess it makes sense, after all there is brunch.”

Part 1  Part 2  Part 3

“Eat with me. If you can drop me at the Lenox Station, I can get home from there. Then you can continue on with your day.”I took a moment to study her. She never held my gaze for long, choosing instead to tuck imaginary strands of her hair behind her ear or to look at the blank screen of her phone held tightly in her hand.“I rarely do things I don’t want to do, so if I didn’t want to eat with you, I wouldn’t have accepted the invitation. But if you’d rather not dine with me, then I will gladly take you wherever you want to go.”

Hope you enjoyed the snippet. Thanks for stopping by.

Another entry for Weekend Writing Warriors. WeWriWa is a blog site open to all authors/writers published or unpublished. Follow the simple instructions on their blog to sign up and then post a snippet of writing on your own blog to join in on the fun.

Continuing with a snippet from my book Fiendish. The excerpt picks up in the middle of chapter 3 and I will continue til the end of the chapter.

In the previous two entries, Calida and Seth have bumped into each other again for the second time. Calida's friend Macy has invited him to join them for dinner, only to ditch Calida once they arrive at the restaurant with some made up excuse. We pick up with Calida trying to figure out what to do on this impromptu date.

Part 1 Part 2

“Looks like it’s just you and me,” I said, opening the door for her. She glanced back at the retreating figure of her friend before turning to give me a nervous smile. The place was a little busy. As I walked over to the hostess station, I looked back to see Calida pull out her phone and fire off a text. I assumed it would be to her friend for abandoning her in such a way. “We have about a ten minute wait,” I stated, taking a seat next to her. “Oh, okay,” she replied, glancing over at me. “You don’t have to do this.”“Do what?”
Hope you enjoyed this bit and thanks for stopping by.

Last week I started with an excerpt from my book Fiendish and I'm picking up again with that. The excerpt picks up in the middle of chapter 3 and I will continue till the end of the chapter.

From last week: Seth has been invited to join Calida and her friend Macy at dinner only when he gets there Macy has to leave. This week picks up with Calida's reaction to Macy's news.

Part 1

“What?” Calida exclaimed and quickly became embarrassed by her outburst. “Sorry. What I mean is how do you expect me to get home? Walk to the Marta station from here? That’s like two miles.”Macy looked over at me briefly, and I smiled back at her in return. “I’ll be happy to drop you off at home,” I offered.“Great! Then it’s settled,” Macy stated quickly.Calida shot her a pleading look, which her friend simply ignored as she waved goodbye to us.

Hope you enjoyed this week's snippet. Thanks for stopping by.

I was going to try and come up with another short story, but this week has been hectic as I prepared to get my daughter moved out of the house and into her dorm for college. My first kiddie to leave the nest.

So instead of a new short story, I'll do an excerpt from my book. It'll run for a few weeks to play out the scene and it gives me time to come up with something new to share.

Happy reading

***The setup***
Fiendish follows the relationship of Calida Alexander and Seth Jokobi. It is a dark and very twisted take on Beauty and the Beast. In this scene Seth and Calida have bumped into each other again (literally) for the second time since that initial meeting. Calida's friend Macy has invited Seth to join them for dinner since the girls had been out shopping and were heading there anyway. This scene picks up when Seth arrives at the restaurant. The story is told in dual first person POV the beginning part of this is in Seth's voice.

They got to the location a little ahead of me and were waiting by the front entrance when I arrived. Macy was busy texting on her phone while Calida gave me a shy smile when she saw me approaching.“I hate to do this,” Macy said, putting her phone back in her purse, “but I’m gonna have to go. Something came up.”“Oh, okay,” Calida replied to her, looking confused and a little disappointed. “Sorry you followed us here for nothing, Seth.”“Another time maybe,” I replied.“Oh, no. Sorry. Lee, you stay. Enjoy yourself,” Macy said.
