You Have Rights.

You have the right to get angry when the world treats you unfairly.

You have the right to ask hard questions from those who expect excellence from you.

You have the right just say “NO” or “MAYBE” or “LATER” when you’re already at your limit.

You have the right to try something new even when you don’t have any evidence that what you want to do will work.

You have the right to take a chance on somebody that might not deserve that chance.

You have the right to be heard even when your opinion may not be fun to hear.

You have the right to get back up when you’ve been pushed down and stepped on.

You have the right to buck conventional wisdom, the status quo, and mediocrity.

You have the right to rise above your past failures to achieve success this time.

You have the right to expect more from those you work with.

You have the right to stand up for what you believe in even though others disagree with you.

You have the right to do better this time and every time after it.

You have the right to defy the experts and challenge things as they have been.

You have the right to do whatever you want to do, whenever you want to do it.

It’s that simple.

Your whole life is up to you. You are responsible for how much money you make, how happy you feel, and the impact you have on the world around you.

You have the right to be amazing your own way.

No one can take that from you, but it’s all too easy to give up your rights. It’s easy to think that by copying someone else’s journey or mimicking someone else’s actions that your path to greatness will be that much more guaranteed.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

You are strongest when you exercise your rights to think for yourself. To fail and get back up again. To make you are own way.

Don’t sacrifice an amazing future because you’re too afraid of what other people think of you or because you don’t have all the answers you think you need right now.

Maybe those things don’t really matter. Maybe it’s your right to start spreading that message on your way towards greatness.

Resolve to Be a Champion [EPTV]

Maybe you’re one of the majority of people who have or will quit their New Years resolutions by the end of next Friday. Don’t be. Change how you think about resolutions.

Over the past several years, it’s become increasingly trendy to choose three words to define who you’ll be that year.

Except there’s one problem. Three words are not going to put food on the table for your kids. Three words won’t buy you that dream home or help you keep your spouse.

It’s not about the words you chose–it’s about the attitudes you live by.

Don’t adopt three new words. Own new attitudes of perseverance .
Don’t resolve to “make” more money. Resolve to earn more.
Don’t try to be successful by hoarding your fiefdom. Give your way to greatness.

Get The EDGY Perspective on resolutions that work and get-rich-tactics that don’t work. We’ll talk about giving, growing, and going the extra mile on your journey to epic success.

Join the conversation:

Awesome People Smile More.

A few more smiles each day will transform your life.

It’s hard not to feel empowered when you’re smiling. You can’t not feel confident and prepared, focused and creative when you’re around people who are smiling back at you.

That’s the power of a smile.

It can change the course of an entire day for you. One kind word from someone you respect can brighten your outlook and enrich your ability to perform at a higher level.

It’s true for you. It’s true for the people you work with, go to church with, play sports with, and those you just happen to bump into from time to time.

A smile goes a long way.

For you and for them.

While you are strategizing about opportunities to drive new revenue and get better results from your marketing this year think about how you can create more smiles. While you are strategizing ways to develop better leaders and empower your workforce, don’t overlook the impact of team members who know how to smile.

It makes a big difference.

It’s better motivation than a big bonus. It’s more motivating then the fear of losing your job.

And it’s completely free. Free to do. Free to share. Free to return. It just requires a little bit of thoughtfulness.

Plan to smile more. Prepare to smile more.

Be deliberate about it.

Smile on.

You’re Not Willing To Win.

There is a version of an old Buddhist phrase that goes something like this: “When the student is willing, the teacher will appear.”

It’s simple — but quite accurately the biggest problem you have in driving corporate innovation.

You don’t see possibility because you’re not willing to make mistakes in order to achieve success. You don’t see positive change because you’re not willing to take a fresh look at your internal motivations.

You’re not willing to change.

You can’t see around the business problems in your way right now; and so, you stay stuck — holding onto your title and business silo like defense positions, instead of a periscopes with which to view the future.

Willingness is directly tied to outcomes.

If you’re not willing to change, your options for achieving success are extremely limited. Almost impossible.

Before you plan, before you build a new strategy, before you hire the right team members, before you get begin driving change — you need to get serious about your willingness.

It’s a deeply personal discussion.

What are you willing to do in order to get to where you want to be? What are you unwilling to do under any circumstance or condition?

It’s important to revisit that discussion on a consistent basis.

If you say you’re willing, are you acting like you’re willing? Are you doing what it takes even though that is certain to be what is most uncomfortable and unpleasant at times?

If you’re not willing to lose money, a few friends, some sleep, the respect of the crowd, or anything else in your journey towards where you want to be then success for you will be a frightfully elusive experience.

You have to be willing to win.

If you find yourself doing a lot of things — following a lot of steps — but not getting the results you desperately want, it’s your willingness.

That’s something that no one else can fix for you. You have to decide what you want and what you’re willing to do about that.

Are you willing to win?

It Is What You Make It.

Life isn’t out to get you. Karma isn’t on a mission to bring you back down to earth. You don’t have things any more difficult than those around you.

You aren’t being picked on or unfairly treated.

That’s the hard truth about what you’re going through right now.

It is what you make it.

Just because you’re in pain doesn’t mean you can’t smile. Just because you’re beat down and worn out doesn’t mean you can’t get back up. Just because nothing seems to be going your way doesn’t give you an excuse to give up and stop trying.

You’re never stuck until you stop heading towards where you want to be.

That’s the secret to finding strength when you’re in your darkest hour.

It is what you make it.

You control your outlook. You control your actions, your habits, your energy, and zeal.

You control everything that matters. That’s not motivational fluff or inspirational mumbo-jumbo. That’s reality. Anything that needs to be changed is something that you can change

You can trade the job you hate right now for an enriching life mission. You can trade a miserable relationship for loving, nurturing commitment. You can trade debt and fear for responsibility and a solid financial plan.

It is what you make it.

So what will you make it? What will you do with today? What will you do with tomorrow?

The question isn’t if you can change things, it is whether you are committed to fixing the nonsense in your life that makes you a loser.

Until you figure that out, you’ll never be as amazing as you could be. You’ll never feel successful, happy, fulfilled, or a sense that your life matters.

It is what you make it.

What you’re going through right now might seem frightfully impossible to fix. Just know deep down in your soul that you’re only as “stuck” as you let yourself believe.

If you decide to get help, you’ll find it. It is what you make it.

The Difference A Dream Makes.

It’s easy to be cynical about dreaming big dreams. After all, dreams are just your imagination — all in your head.

They aren’t real life or even a possibility sometimes. They’re just a spark of hope.

A moment of wishful thinking .

The beginning of anything — and everything.

Dreams are the inspiration for every accomplishment that has ever been achieved by mankind.

It all starts with a dream. A hope. A prayer. A wish.

There is nothing until there is a dream.

That’s when things change.

A dream changes everything. Nothing is replaced by chance. And chance by possibility.

And as possibility became potential, the dream became reality. And with reality came change.

Change is what you need right now in your life. You need things to be better. It might be bad finances, poor health, a lousy job, or screwed up personal relationships.

You need to start dreaming.

You need to start now. This moment. It starts by asking yourself the hard questions.

What do success and happiness look like to you right now?
What are you willing to give up to get to where you want to be?
What type of person do you want to be for the rest of your life?
What mistakes do you need to avoid making the next time around?
What opportunities, mentors, and coaches do you need around you?

The list goes on and on. It starts with brutal honesty and ends when you begin to see the finish line in the distance.

That hurts.

Because giving your dream a chance to succeed means that you have to confront the bad behaviors and poor thinking that has held you back from being successful up to this point.

You might decide that it’s easier to stop dreaming and just make the best use of what you have right now. The cynic inside you will make you think that pointing-the-finger at others and blaming the world around you is the best way to protect yourself from the pain of dreaming big dreams.

But what you aren’t remembering when you think that way is that losing hurts forever.

That’s too high a cost.

Which is the difference a dream makes. It sets you free. It makes the pain you feel right now a little bit more manageable.

It makes you a winner — in your body, your mind, and your back pocket.

What if things weren’t the way they are right now? What if you could live the life of your dreams?

You can. You should . I hope you do.

Why Your Message Doesn’t Matter [EPTV]

Ever wonder how you can spend hours, weeks, months — even years — agonizing over your marketing message and the tools you use to deliver that message only to get little response from the audience you  are targeting?

No one seems to really care.

And it’s frustrating.  So we’re going to figure it out together.

Last week, we launched our very first episode of The EDGY Perspective about why winners fail.

WOW. Thousands of you watched, shared, and sent us your comments–and we loved every one of them. (If you missed out, you can watch it here.)

Game on, people.

On Episode 2 we tackle the the hard-hitting topic of why people don’t really care about what you are trying to sell them.

Part of having magical customer service involves having a plan in place and smart tools enabled to help you create a conversation that matters.

I’ve been bothered for a while now that most sales and marketing efforts don’t take into account the “human” side of life. Most marketing strategy doesn’t factor “real life” into the conversation.

That’s not all.

I get a ton of emails asking how I’m able to get so much done in a day. I’ll share the tools I use (and a few I love, but don’t use) so you can too.

Hop in. We’re gonna talk about the madness of throwing a temper tantrum over $4–and how the IRS did customer service right. Ready?

Here you go:

Why You Aren’t Getting It Right, Right Now.

If success isn’t the only option you can afford right now, you’re probably going to fail.

You might think you need more options than what you have right now. You might want more options than those you have right now. But more options means less urgency. Less intensity.

Less reason to get it right, right now.

Desperation will focus your resolve like no other force in your life. You have to crave success. Want success. Need success. And need it in your life right now.

When you’re backed into a corner, you only have one direction to fight. When you’re circled by enemies and opportunities, those two can look a lot alike.

In the moments when you feel most threatened, it’s natural to become overwhelmed and frightened by the circumstances of the moment.

You are right where you need to be.

The simplicity of winning is in being “all in” in who you need to fight. You can’t take on everyone all at the same time.

Start slaying problems one at a time. Take no prisoners. Waste no time. Live with no regrets

Be awesome.

You Can’t Outsource Awesome.

You have to get out of bed in the morning and go to battle even when you’re already fatigued from the day before.

You have to rally your team and make hard changes even when not everyone understands “why” right now.

You have to make that important call to your dream client and have the hard conversation that might yield more business.

You have to find time to spend in quietness to clear your mind and prepare for the challenges ahead of you.

You have to be the one who has the dream of where you want to be when you cross the finish line.

You have to stand up when things are wrong and lead your team back towards the right direction.

You have to be the one who shares the award with everyone else on your team when you win.

You have to set the standard for success and be the guardian of excellence every step of the way.

You can’t outsource awesome.

You have to be it. Every day. That’s your job as a leader. To be the one who carries a sword at the front of the battle.

Your cheer has to be the loudest.  Your resolve has to be the toughest. Your will has to be the clearest.

You can’t hire someone else to do that for you. You can’t delegate that mission to anyone else around you.

If it’s going to be, it has to be because you fight for it to be.

That’s the difference between average leaders and those who build dynasties.

Winners do the tough stuff. The more you win and the higher you rise, the tougher the stuff you’re going to have to do.

That’s the recipe for awesome.

You bending the universe to see it your way. Not because you have a big team who does what you tell them. But because you live by a mission.

Don’t rob yourself of awesome by pretending like it’s anyone else’s responsibility.

It’s yours. Own it.
