Introducing My Publisher: Morgan James Publishing (Take 2)
Hi guys!
Last week I did a post introducing my publisher, Morgan James Publishing, and saying a few things about them. I called it ‘Take 1’. This week, I’m doing another post about my publisher that I’m calling ‘Take 2’. It’s the official (and probably final) take, haha! Here goes:
***Official Take***
Morgan James Publishing was founded in 2003 by David L. Hancock, a mortgage banker at the time, who had written a book and been less than thrilled with the conventional book publishing process—yet pleasantly surprised by the immense power of publishing a book.
Created by an Entrepreneurial Author for Entrepreneurial Authors, Morgan James became the first hybrid publisher to blend the strength of traditional publishing with the flexibility of self-publishing.
“Morgan James makes an extraordinary effort to help its authors to grow their own business”
– Publisher’s Weekly’s Lynn Andriani and Jim Milliot.
David, with his bride, Susan, named the new company after their two children, daughter Morgan Renee and son Ethan James.
In just over fifteen short years, Morgan James Publishing has grown from publishing 6 books per year to publishing an average of 150 front list titles each year, with a backlist of over 2,000 titles.
Morgan James focuses on four book categories: Nonfiction, Fiction, Faith, and Kids.

Our vision is to publish titles that educate, encourage, inspire and entertain with current, consistent, relevant, titles available everywhere books are sold.
We even have something exciting we are working on called ‘Morgan James Complete’. Unlimited access to all of our books on any device. A subscription plan for only $10/mo. that includes our front list titles, many up to 3 months ahead of bookstores. It also includes our bestselling backlist titles. Let’s Read!
Morgan James Publishing is regularly ranked by Publisher’s Weekly as one of the fastest growing publishers in the nation. Morgan James ranked #44 on Fast Company’s Fast 50 for its significant accomplishments and impact on the industry over the last ten years.

***And…Cut!***
That’s it guys. Thank you for reading! I’m so excited to be working with the team at Morgan James Publishing. I can’t wait for the book to be finished and finally be in your hands. I’ll be sharing more details about the book in subsequent posts. If there’s anything specific you want to know, drop me a line in the comment section below. If not, still drop me a line even if it’s to say hello. I’d love to hear from you.
Cheers!

Introducing My Publisher: Morgan James Publishing (Take 1)
Hi guys! So, in my last post I dropped a bomb on y’all, telling you that I landed a publishing deal a couple of months ago. In another post, I’m going to tell you HOW I landed this deal and my journey to this point. In this post, I’m introducing my publisher.
*drum roll*
MORGAN JAMES PUBLISHING!
Yay!
Yeah, you probably already figured that out from the title. Ha! Morgan James Publishing is a tier one Independent New York based publisher with offices in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. They have a couple of New York Times Best Sellers on their belt, which I think is really cool, seeing how I want to be a NYT Bestselling author and with this first book!
Morgan James Publishing is a traditional publisher, so no vanity press and whatnot. They were recently ranked by Publishers Weekly as one of the fastest growing independent publisher in the U.S.
Okay. That’s my brief unofficial overview on Morgan James. Nice, huh? That’s what I thought.
The deal I signed with Morgan James Publishing is great. Better than average, in fact. I’m super excited about being a Morgan James author and can’t wait for my YA book to be published. I don’t have a final date, yet, but I do have a meeting in two weeks with the team. We’re supposed to talk about final release dates, timeline and a host of other important things. As soon as I have more information, I’ll let you know.
Fingers crossed.

Hello World!
Hi everyone and happy easter!
I’m back! Yes, I’m back! For good this time, because this is home…
[image error]
I have a lot to share with you that I’m totally bristling with excitement right now as I type out this post. I’ve been working behind the scene on a lot of projects, some of which are mine, some of which aren’t (ghostwriting and stuff).
However, I’m making a commitment to start blogging actively again. So you’re going to be getting a lot of my posts weekly going forward. I admit there’s another reason for this besides the fact that I want to reconnect with you and that is I’m going to need your help in the coming weeks and months. Here’s why.
I landed a publishing deal a couple of months ago. YAY!!
It’s for a YA Fantasy Adventure. I’ll be telling you all about this publishing deal in the following posts. But it’s huge, it’s exciting, and I’m so glad to be taking this next big step as an author. I’m now going to be traditionally published, which means aside from being on all online retail store, you can expect to see my books in the bookstores!
I may be revisiting some of my self-published works now and then, while I work with my publisher on getting this new book ready for prime time.
I’m also working on another exciting new story, which is definitely getting the whole ‘traditional publisher’ treatment, haha! I’m totally stoked about this new book! It’s huge folks, I tell you. I’m going to be doing all sorts of reveals about this new story I’m working on with time.
See why I’ll need your help? To get the word out.
There’s a lot of fun happening here. A lot of great stories and wonderful experiences in these books. I’m sharing them with you, hoping that you would share them with others. Share the posts. Tell someone about these books. Encourage them to like and follow my blog.
I’m also active on social media: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The more the merrier, and we like it merrier, don’t we? :).
Well, there you have it! These are just a few of the things that have been happening with me. I’m glad I have you all caught up with me. I would love to know what’s been happening with you, your dreams and all. Let me know in the comment section below!

Wrath of Elijah Book Review by Nadine C. Keels

The Blood Moons: Wrath of Elijah by Kachi Ugo
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
(Click the title to find the book description/blurb.)
“I am Angelus Mikhail, servant of Elohim. Your life has been weighed with the Scales of Yeshua and you have been found worthy of the Wrath of Elijah. Follow me.”
Growing up in the slums of Ajegunle, twelve-year-old Johnny Akinwale has always been feverish on a frequent basis. Johnny’s doctors were never aware that his fevers are the effects of an ancient power he possesses as a descendant of the biblical prophet Elijah. Once Johnny learns of his power and true ancestry, he’s pulled into a mission with other young warriors to thwart an evil scheme of epic destruction in The Blood Moons: Wrath of Elijah by author Kachi Ugo.
While this is a middle grade fantasy with juvenile readability, I was very much drawn to this tale and remained engrossed as I read.
There’s a richness and balance to the story: a boy who finds it hard not to hate his impoverished life and his neglectful parents, even as he knows he’s destined for greatness. Coming into his supernatural power doesn’t release him of all natural rules, such as his having to get to school on time. And even with its dangerous, high-stakes adventure, the story makes room for humor that had me laughing out loud.
The illustrations toward the beginning of the book are a nice bonus! It would’ve been great if they’d continued throughout the story.
I found the development to be a tad awkward in places, particularly in an instance where foreshadowing might have helped. There are several grammar and technical errors in the book, along with one word choice I wouldn’t deem appropriate for a children’s book. However, my main disappointment was in finding that the story essentially ends with a cliffhanger. Even if the first book in a series may not tie up the loose ends of a subplot or two, I prefer a book to have a complete story where the main plot is resolved by the end.
I’d like to continue this series—but not because the cliffhanger left me hanging. I’m truly interested to know what will happen with Johnny and the other young Descendants of the Patriarchs.

Wrath of Elijah (#1, The Blood Moons Series) – AVAILABLE NOW!!!
…after four blood moons, bad things will happen.
Though the patriarchs of faith are dead, they live on through their descendants. Their traits, strengths, and even weaknesses—all transferred from up the generational line down to the twenty first century. But as these patriarchs live on through their offspring, so do their foes. The same battles are being fought. Only, the stakes are higher now than they were then.
Johnny Akinwale is your average 12 year old boy living with his parents in the slums of Ajegunle. In the day he goes to school; in the night he survives on the streets by wits and sheer force of will. At birth, he was diagnosed with a rare disease which left him perpetually feverish. He was consigned to living a marginalized life and one of great distress and sorrow. However, what the doctors did not know was that the root of Johnny’s fevers was not in science but in an ancient power he possessed as a result of who he was—one same power which runs in his bloodline. Johnny Akinwale is a descendant of the fiery prophet, Elijah.

Johnny neither knows of this power nor of the fact that it has pitted him against evil forces that are beyond the control of a 12 year old. Nevertheless, this becomes clear to him as he encounters Sagnarok. A lieutenant in the armies of Hell, Sagnarok has been sent to the ancient city of Lagos to trigger the blood moons. Johnny must heed the call to greatness and stop Sagnarok against all odds.
Johnny does not know what the blood moons will cause. Only that after four blood moons, bad things will happen.

The Blood Moons: Chapter Reveal! (A Look Inside!)
Chapter Seven
Desolation of Orunmila
Timi started swinging the moment the creatures began to attack. Bursts, and intermittently short floods, of fire blasted from Johnny’s hands, and tens of monkey-like creatures caught on fire. But there were simply too many creatures to blast with fire. They were overwhelmed and overpowered within seconds.
Timi’s weapon was knocked out of his hands, while Johnny’s hands were pinned against his back. He couldn’t blast fire without scorching his own body, or so he thought. He wasn’t about to experiment.
They were tied tightly with ropes, and then they were led into the clearing.
From afar, the clearing looked like a local shrine. It was a small annular space within the thick, dark forest with an assortment of animal heads hanging from stakes in the ground. There were benches around and blood spilled in several places. It looked like a dreadful place, one that made Johnny’s heart to quake as they entered.
But the moment they entered the clearing, everything changed. It was as if they had stepped into a modern world. The first thing they noticed was that the small clearing had somehow expanded to the size of a wide ballroom. Rows of harsh fluorescent tubes above their heads flooded the area with light, gleaming against the mirror-polished tiles of the floor. Around the edge of the room, there was a translucent material that sort of sheathed the space from the forest beyond. It was some form of supernatural manifestation.
Dazed by the sudden change, Johnny and Timi staggered, trying to come to a stop so they could regain their sense of scale. However, their captors pushed them forward. All around the room, there were plush sofas and couches. Humanoid creatures; predator animals, like lions, tigers, and cheetahs lazed about. Some lay on couches, others lay on the ground. While yet, others patrolled the space as though they were stretching their legs.
To one end was a unique piece of machinery. It had two bulky parts separated by a space of about seven meters. These two parts were connected by a buzzing, sizzling flood of light. From this light, monkey like creatures materialized and dispersed into the surrounding forest. Emblazoned on the side of the machine was the name of the manufacturer: CONNECT FIRE Inc. Then, below was their motto: connecting Hell and the Ether to Earth since the fall of Adam…
“Is that…” Johnny began to say.
“That’s the latest in rift-making technology!” said an excited lady from behind.
They spun around to see a tall, well-shaped damsel shimmer into existence. Every living creature in the room gazed upon the lady’s beauty, murmuring in awe, and the lady seemed to revel in their worship.
She had piercing almond eyes, ebony skin that shimmered in the flood of light above, and strong and powerful legs that looked like they could support a tall building. She wore traditional Yoruba attire that covered her chest and waist-to-thigh region, leaving most of her body exposed.
“Bought it off of deity-bay some months back,” the lady went on, ignoring the dazed look that Johnny no doubt knew he and Timi were giving her. “According to the manufacturers, it can sustain a rift for hours without replenishing! Awesome, right?”
Without waiting for their response, she walked right passed them and the host of monkey creatures that held them bound to her machine. She beamed at it with pride.
“You’re Orunmila?” Johnny blurted.
The goddess turned and looked at him as though she was just seeing him for the first time. “Who’s asking,” she said.
“Don’t you already know who we are? Weren’t you the one that spoke to us in the woods as we approached?” Timi asked.
The goddess smiled. “Oh, that’s my automated fear producing system. I bought it at the Palms Shopping Mall for seven hundred thousand naira. Pretty cool, huh?” She winked her eyebrow, and the boys nodded instinctively.
Then she frowned. “So who are you again, and what do you want with Orunmila?”
Before any of them could speak, one of the monkey creatures said in a throaty, inhuman voice, “Trespassers, O great Orunmila. They are Descendants of the Patriarchs. We caught them sneaking up on the shrine with weapons. One is from Solomon, the other is from Elijah.”
A twinkle appeared in the goddess’s eye. Her phone rang before she could speak, and she pulled out an iPhone from her attire and answered the call. It lasted for about twenty minutes and it seemed to be a call from a representative of Ogun Metal Works Industries, the holding company of CONNECT FIRE Inc. From the conversation, the representative wanted to find out if Orunmila was having any problems with the machine.
Orunmila replied negative and then went on about how great the machine was. How that she had three major entities and bunches of monkey like creatures through the rift without the rift collapsing on itself. The call ended some moments later and the goddess looked at them with a satisfying grin.
“Elijah, you say?” Orunmila said after a while.
The monkey creature nodded.
“Is this true?” asked the goddess. She didn’t seem angered by the fact. She looked as if it was merely a nuisance.
Timi said, “Well, yes.”
Johnny almost sank into the ground. Why would he admit to that?
“We are here to close the rift, so we can stop Sagnarok before he triggers the blood moons and bring destruction to this city and the rest world of men,” Timi said.
The moment Timi said that, there was a whisper of surprise which was followed by a shocking silence. All heads turned to Orunmila, who now seemed so uncertain she was about to dash out of her skin.
Her features turned dark, the lighting dimming with it. “You lie,” she throated in a voice that could have put the fear of God in the creatures of the abyss.
“No!” Timi began, but was cut short by Orunmila.
“I say, YOU LIE!” she roared and the earth trembled vehemently. In a softer, but sterner and angry voice she said to Timi, “The Lieutenant from Hell had an agent here on earth—the one who wields the thunder. The boy told me that Sagnarok was coming to Earth to procure the latest high definition flat screen TV for his office in Hellquaters. That’s why they came.”
“Seriously?” Timi said, staring down the goddess. “And you fell for that load of lies?”
Johnny felt laughter burn its way to his lips. It came forth with a burst that rang through the space, piercing the silence that was tight in the room. “Dear ma, you have been deceived by a boy. Even I can’t fall for that trick…”
The word deceived spread through the attending host in whispers.
Orunmila roared in anger, shooting flames from her head and hands. She became translucent and glorious, her features turning darker and ghostly.
“She’s changing,” Timi warned, looking away from the goddess. “She’s going Nova.”
“Get out!” Orunmila yelled at the creatures around. They scampered from their positions and began vanishing into thin air. The monkey like creatures abandoned Timi and Johnny and dashed for the safety of the forest.
“It can’t be true,” the blinding white figure, hovering in the air, cried. “I am Orunmila, the god of Wisdom, Knowledge, and Divination. I cannot be deceived.”
“Looks like what happened,” Timi replied.
Orunmila let out a guttural wail and then in a rage of anger blasted fire on everything around, including the machine which exploded at once. In seconds, there was a furnace going in the room. The couches, sofa, and even the trees on the border of the room were on fire. And Orunmila was still flooding the area with the fires of her hate.
Johnny and Timi had been trying to get free of their binding since the fire started coming. They’d had no luck, and now it looked like they were going to perish by fire.
Johnny tried to get the goddess to calm down. “Look, I’m sure there’s plenty other gods who are deceived by boys.”
This was the statement that sent Orunmila over. Before she exploded in an incinerating blast of pure energy, she screamed: “I AM NO ORDINRY GOD. I AM THE POSSESSOR OF ALL KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM AND GATEWAY TO THE BEYOND!”
Johnny was sure he was going to die.
The signs were there. The goddess had begun to throb and just as she was finishing her last words, the blinding light she exuded had reached its maximum intensity. However, just before her last word, a fast, agile figure leaped into the smoky area, meandered her way through the pillars of fire and smoke in her path, until she got to them.
When she was at their side, she yelled, “Down!”
Timi and Johnny instinctively obeyed her. She threw herself over them and threw a cloth over their bodies.
Then they heard the explosion like a bomb blast. There was a wash of intense heat and an incredible flash of light. There were creeks and cracks of trees and hisses of steam. Following this was a profound deafening silence.
The girl pulled away. Timi helped Johnny to his feet, and together they gazed at the desolation of Orunmila. From where they were to a very long distance in all directions, all the trees had been turned to a very black variant of ash. It was like a black carpet had been used to cover the area.
Surprisingly, the cloth material had shielded them from the goddess.
Timi and Johnny both looked at the girl who had saved them at the same time. She was a beauty to behold. Immediately, Johnny concluded in his mind that Orunmila’s beauty paled compared to this girl’s. And she looked to be the same age with Johnny.
Johnny felt his heart skip as she brought her eyes from the destruction around her to bear on the two boys she had saved.
The moment Timi and her eyes met, recognition filled them both. Before Johnny knew it, they had both drawn out their swords and had it to each other’s throat.

The Uprising – An Excerpt
This is a captivating read and difficult to put this book down. Kachi has a very pleasant writing style and the story develops beautifully following a great pace, which is important to me. This is definitely a great start to a new series I will keep reading…
– Ramona Plant (GOODREADS)
Kachi Ugo is a writer to watch–he has a head full of stories and he pours them out on the page as fast as the reader can follow. The Uprising is only the latest of his works, and it is a fresh, powerful fantasy featuring the kick-ass Sarah Justice who is all about getting her baby back in this volume. Her son has been ripped out of this time and place and into the future thru a portal. But she’s not alone in this mission, she has a band of Elementals who would follow her to Hell and back...
– Zippergirl (GOODREADS)
The dark clouds churned as rogue swirls of wind ravaged the city. Scraps of paper, grains of sand, and every other thing that wasn’t tightly secured hazed the air, reducing visibility to about a few feet. The heavens were alive with sharp and brief sparks of lightning and thunder, every moment threatening a full explosion. People scampered for covering, knowing that very soon the grey clouds would unleash a storm on their heads. The two elemental police men who should have been patrolling Hoover Street were not exempt from this hurried motion as they sought cover a good distance from their post. And in their bid to escape a beating from the sky, they missed the hooded figure that moved fluidly in the direction of a modest one story residence.
This was the residence their commanding officer had instructed them to keep undisturbed. It was supposed to be a thirty-day assignment. For the last twenty nine days no one had gone in the house. Assuming this night wouldn’t be any different they decided to abandon their post for the duration of the storm. If only they had known how wrong they were in this assumption.
The figure waved his hand at the gate, revealing soft looking olive skin. The gate cracked open. Without breaking stride, the figure flowed on in a heavy black cloak towards the front door, pausing before the porch to glance at the building. It was dark except for the light bulb upstairs. The figure waved his hand as before – – a soft click responded – – and the door swung in of its own accord, admitting the stranger. The figure marched straight ahead for the stairs, not looking left or right. When he turned into the passageway, he saw her.
“You can’t take him away!” she muttered, her face ruined by a mix of tears and makeup. She had a long and sharp kitchen knife in a strong grip, and she stood in a defensive stance before the entrance into the bedroom. Some light from the room fell on the passageway, allowing the tall, hooded figure to scrutinize his adversary. She wore a golden blouse embossed in white with the word: Earth. Her black pants was peppered with clumps of wet sand. Her feet were bare, tingling with powerful magic, one that crammed into the small passageway, so strong that the figure swayed under its overbearing weight. Her eyes, though teary, gave no indication that she wouldn’t go Super Nova with her knife and magic if he neared her.
He took a tentative step forward and said, “My name is…”
“I don’t care who you are,” she snarled, eyeing him with a hateful look.
“But you care why I have come…” The figure paused and took in the lady’s sandy pants and legs with a curious glint in his eyes. “You’ve been outside. You saw me coming. You’ve probably alerted someone, but they can’t get here in time. You know I don’t want you. Why would I want the trouble of dealing with a powerful Elemental like you, when I can deal with a powerless newborn?” Then his voice took on a bitter, almost regretful tone. “Tell me, what do you think I want with him?”
The woman drew a blank.
“You know you can’t stop me,” he continued, pulling on his inner power and letting it stir in the space. The woman felt it too, responding with a slight flinch as his power stroked hers. “You’ve seen what I’m capable off. You’ve witnessed the power I wield. You know I’m a Dualist. You’re out of your depth. Stand down.”
For a moment, uncertainty flickered in her eyes. Her grip on the knife softened. Her magic withdrew from the room. But it was only for a moment. “I can’t let you have him!” she shrieked, gripping her blade tightly, and pushing her Earth magic against his Air magic.
“Stop this nonsense, Sarah!” the man warned, bracing himself against her power. He also strengthened his secondary power in the hallway. Not too much to threaten her, but sufficient to respond to an attack effectively. His primary power had created the dark clouds and whirl wind outside. “You can’t stop me,” he repeated, and as if to buttress that point, he lifted his left hand as if to grab something above his head, and a huge bolt of lightning formed in the clouds outside and drove down into the lawn with a loud thunder.
Then it began to rain.
She made to say something, but instead charged him whipping up the clumps of sand from her pants with the wave of a hand. They shot at him like tiny projectiles, tiny and powerful enough to punch a hole through his heart. The man jumped out of their path. His hands dove into his cloak and withdrew a small dagger just in time to parry Sarah’s strike. He drove a palm against her chest, stopping a full inch short of her body. Where his hand stopped, a powerful blast of wind erupted into existence and plowed right into her chest, sending her body flying across the hallway and smashing into the ceiling.
She fell to the floorboards, concussed. Her Earth magic remained aloft in the air for a few more seconds before it vanished as she fell unconscious.
The figure straightened his cloak, stowed away his blade, and walked to the door, stepping over the woman’s limp form. The bedroom was every bit a child’s bedroom, complete with brightly colored walls, stickers of famous cartoon characters, and a hanging miniaturized solar system. At the center of the room was a baby carriage in which struggled a sleeping baby with his sheets. The figure pulled the baby free and examined the creature who would, fifty years from now, destroy the whole world with black magic. He pressed the baby against his chest and walked back down the stairs without a second glance to the mother of the child. He locked the door and the gate behind him and started down the street, the darkness and heavy rain shielding his retreat. His cloak provided adequate shelter for the baby boy, though he exercised enough power over his magicked storm so that not a drop of rain touched his cloak. When he got to his entry point down the street, the rain stopped.
“Did she put up a fight?” his partner asked as he approached him, nodding at the baby in his hands. Loas was a medium height, sharp man with a heavy build and a no nonsense face.
“Yes.”
“So, did you kill her?”
“No.”
The clouds were still dark, nonetheless, he caught the frown on Loas’s face.
“She didn’t put up a strong fight,” he explained. “Perhaps, killing one innocent soul”—he gestured to the baby in his hands—“is enough for one night.”
Loas spat a string of curses at the baby. “That thing is not innocent!” he grimaced.
The figure sighed. “It’s still a baby, Loas. It’s done no evil or good.”
“Well too bad he would never get to do anything at all,” said Loas.
“Yes, too bad…,” the figure agreed. The baby’s fate was sealed once they got to their destination.
“What if she comes after us, Nnamdi?” Loas asked. Before his partner could reply, he stretched his hands far apart and brought them together in a loud clap. A stream of light erupted from the point of impact, coalescing into a giant paper-thin screen in front of them. Through the screen they could see into their world, or more correctly, their time–AD 2066. They could see the bland white walls of their staging area in the highly classified, top secret military underground installation in the Mohave Desert.
“She’ll never find us,” replied Nnamdi as he reeled in his power over the weather. In an instant the dark clouds disappeared and the sun flooded the whole world with light. “Because she will never know where we came from. She will never know when we came from.”
Loas nodded and led him through the portal, closing it as soon as they were on the other side.
Sarah Justice is many good things, including a descent Earth Elemental, a wonderful partner to her man, and a new mother. However, when an extremely powerful Dualist from the future—a man able to wield the magic of two of the Elements—abducts her newborn, she is turned into a cold blooded killer. In a bid to rescue her child, she sparks a rebellion, birthing an organization of young, skilled Elementals, who are immediately branded terrorists, and blithely transgressing every Law known to her kind. And the powers that be—the Global Elemental Authority and its ruthless leader, Commander Thorn, who is infamous for being remarkably vile to offenders—are not in the slightest forgiving. But there are bigger occult entities at play. Sarah may soon realize that her resolve is not enough. Notwithstanding, she has vowed to recover her child, heedless of where it takes her: to death or to victory.
