Care

Who are you?

I’m thinking about you a lot.

I care about what you think about what I say.

I’ve written this twice on the page and four times in my head.

I don’t even know who you are and yet I care deeply.

I deleted all six versions – this is the seventh.

All I really want to say is that I’m alright.

Last Thursday, I overdosed. Today is Wednesday, which means that this is the seventh day.

I’ve experienced a bout of depression.
I’ve been through some anger.
I’ve experienced sadness.
Today – I...

Exciting New Story (p5)

(Continued from Exciting New Story (p4))

Despite trying to evict him, Mark camped in Sheena’s mind all that summer. To have lost her mum and then for him to have shrugged his own off like that seemed like a … she had no single word.

As a freshly-minted teenager, pleasantly padded and half way down a bag of her favourite toffees, she’d suddenly arrived at the conclusion that she needed to wean herself off these sweet treats. So she made herself, mid-way through a stickily-delightful, sweet-ju...

Exciting New Story (p4)

(Continued from Exciting New Story (p3))

Somewhen, late into the twilight of their romantic attachment, Mark and Sheena sat on the plump sofa, not quite apart, but not quite touching, as they watched David Attenborough talk of snakes below the floor and rats scuttling behind the walls of some place behind the back of civilisation. Sheena glanced sideways at Mark and watched the shadows flickering across his face as she thought of what they had become.

Since that first day at his flat, she’...

Exciting New Story (p3)

(Continued from Exciting New Story (p2))

“There’s more to it than meets the eye, honest,” said Mark as Sheena turned in the middle of the living room, taking in all the strips of paper plastered to the walls, floor and ceiling.

“Well yeah, if there wasn’t, I’d just say ‘nutter’ and I’d be off.”

You might say that it was a bit of an awkward moment, which is probably why they were talking as if their words had been penned by a writer struggling for a good way to describe the scene.

Mark, havi...

Exciting New Story (p2)

(Continued from Exciting New Story (p1))

Ride the Whirlwind

“No, don’t sl …”

Sheena slammed the door.

“Why’d that ponce have to look down his nose at me all night? No way you should have tipped him anything, Mark!”

The object of her affection did his best attempt a cheerful, which wasn’t coming easy to him, as he walked down the High Street, Sheena half skipping, half walking at his side. She was a happy bunny now that they were out in the open air, and when they got to the chippy, the smell...

Exciting New Story (p1)

Opportunity to Back Away

To give you the opportunity to back out before you get too embroiled in this tale, I’m going to tell you how it goes. Sheena falls in love with Mark. The young man likes her too and they duly set sail for the land of happily-ever-after. But then it turns out that Mark is a bit of a schmuck, so she leaves him for someone else. Unfortunately, Mr Someone-else turns out to be an even bigger dick (yes, these are synonyms). Meanwhile, Mark loses his mother and grows some em...

Weeds Can Block Drainage Ditches

‘Balls, balls – it’s all a load of balls!’

The thoughts had tumbled through my mind last night, tripping over themselves, but never stopping. It had felt like fever, but my toes, hanging from the bottom of the bed like so many chilled grapes, had told a different story.

The darkened room had hidden my face from the mirror, but I’d known that the beard was there, protecting the world from lies that always gathered behind my forehead like excrement in a collapsed drain.

Maybe that’s why I cou...

Mass Suicides

Heartfelt note by UK teenager triggers worldwide suicides on a massive scale. Members of the public urged to seek help before taking any action.

The following Tweet appears to have been the cause for suicides worldwide. Scientist are baffled by what media have already dubbed the Green Suicide Movement.

This was posted last night on Twitter:

Rather a Radical Rewrite

(Being a rewrite of First 1,064 Words of Rough Draft)

The first stage of this rewrite is a Thought Edit that goes like this:

“Instead of saying: “Adam knew Gwen liked him.” instead say: “Between classes, Gwen was always leaned on his locker when he’d go to open it.  She’d roll her eyes and shove off with one foot, leaving a black-heel mark on the painted metal, but she also left the smell of her perfume.  The combination lock would still be warm from her ass.  And the next break, Gwen would b...
