Ishmael
Ishmael goes up to the counter and orders a venti white chocolate mocha. “What name should I put on the cup?” asks the barista. “Call me Ishmael,” Ishmael replies. Then he thinks for a moment. “You know, actually, never mind,” he says. “I wasn’t that committed to that drink anyway.”
The Oracle
The Oracle of Delphi goes up to the counter and orders a pumpkin spice latte. The barista ignores her order and tries to make what he wants (a peppermint hot chocolate). But the syrup pumps were switched by the night custodian, and he makes a pumpkin spice latte by mistake. It’s impossible to deny the oracle.

for all my indie authors
FORMATTING. LET ME TELL YOU THE IMPORTANCE OF FORMATTING.
Self-pub authors get some really bad rap, for not editing, not formatting, not being professional enough, not being able to get a “real” publishing company to take them on. I know, totally unfair and, for the most part, completely untrue. It’s a lot of hard work, organizing everything yourself. For me, my two biggest issues were editing (which I’ll address in a later post) and formatting (read on).
Because you don’t want your book to look like this:

(there aren’t even page numbers. 16 year-old me fails.)
You’ve spent what feels like forever on your book, so please, for the love of Zeus, treat it well. It makes 0 sense to take your beautiful masterpiece and not take the final steps to make it pretty and formatted. Single-spaced times new roman pt 12 is a huge turn off for readers (as 16 year-old me found out).
Now, formatting is really difficult to do yourself, especially if you’ve never done it and are as impatient as an ox (me, again). Plus, it can cost like $300 to get it done from some “professional” formatter who has six million other projects and will spend just 2 seconds on yours once he gets to it after 6 months and, while it might look fine and dandy, looks just like every other book.
NOT TODAY. YOUR BOOK DESERVES MORE (and your wallet does too).
Which is why I’m going to point you to the most spectacularly grand person in the world–Ashley. She’s formatted all of my books, and every single time, I am amazed.

seriously do you see this title page and that font

she will make it perfect

page numbers, legal stuff, chapter breaks, chapter titles, fonts, she’ll take care of it all. She even went above and beyond to format my coauthor book perfectly, making some amazing suggestions that really have completed the book.

(yeah it took her like just a day to do my first book it was perf)
Pros: 1) She’s fast. And meets every deadline. Often just days after you send it. 2) So well-priced. You probably won’t be spending more than $100 (unless your book is one of those crazy long things, but it’ll still be insanely cheap) 3) OH MY GOODNESS. IT’LL LOOK SO PRETTY. Ash takes her time, talks to you, makes sure you get what you want. 4) Also she’s like the nicest person ever 5) And she’s an author so she totally gets everything.
Cons: She hasn’t had any “official” training but??? Her work is just as good?? Seriously how can someone be self-taught so well???? So no cons.
Basically, if you want your book formatted, for a great price, and for it to look perfect and unique and everything you’ve ever wanted, then get it done at Sizzling Ash.
You can contact her here - sizzlingashbooks@gmail.com - if you’re interested or have any questions. Also, if you’re a first-time client of hers, you can get a 20% discount ~ just tell her you were sent by Izzy in the email.
Oh, and she just set up a tumblr for her fantastic business, sizzlingashbooks, so make sure to give her a follow.
Seriously, your books physical appearance is so, so, so important. I cannot express how amazing Ash and her work are. People always tell me “your book just looks so beautiful and professional”, and it’s all due to her efforts.
