Happy Anniversary

I’d like to wish my parents a happy 63rd anniversary. They knew each other three (3) months before they got married. Who says there’s no such thing as love at first sight?

Old-Fashioned Words

When my son was either in Kindergarten or first grade, his teacher told him to put on his rain coat. He asked, “Do you mean my slicker?”  His teacher explained to him that “slicker” was an old-fashioned word for rain coat. I once referred to a meal my husband particularly likes as a “larder” meal. […]

National Clean Up Your Room Day

A couple of years ago, I spent weeks shoveling out my office. Over the past 18 months or so, the mess  has been creeping back. Guess what I’m going to do today?

New to America

My particular branch of the county library system “serves the city’s most ethnically and racially diverse population.” According to the website: “The library’s basement houses an English Language Literacy Lab for those interested in learning or improving their English language skills. We also have immigration, ESOL and citizenship resources in various formats for the adult […]

National Garden Meditation Day

Whoever designated May 3 as National Garden Meditation Day never lived in upstate New York. Oh, I have a bank of tulips next to the driveway.  And there were random clusters of grape hyacinths dotting the lawn where the squirrels replanted the bulbs. (TV Stevie mowed over these.)  But Buddha rests beneath the dead blossoms […]

Hair Stylist Appreciation Day

I love my hair stylist. I’ve followed her to nearly every place she’s worked. Once, I didn’t. That was a disaster. I found her again when she opened her own place. So a big shout out to Tracey, one of the owners of The Hive Salon. I appreciate you each and every day.

May is Date Your Mate Month

It’s nearly May, and May is Date Your Mate Month. Celebrate with a werewolf romance. Werewolves working for the government? Reporter Delilah Tenney must choose: the story of a lifetime or a lifetime of love.~ Compton’s debut is a gripping, sexy as hell, page turner of a werewolf novel not for the faint hearted! NY […]

Talk (Or Sing) Like Shakespeare Day

‘Tis the Bard’s birthday. In his honor, folks are supposed to talk like him. Thee and thou-ing everyone could be a lot of fun, especially if you’re around people who have no idea what you’re up to (and unfortunately there are far too many of that kind of folks in my universe). Me, I’m going to […]

National Garlic Day

Today is National Garlic Day.

I personally think every day should celebrate this wonderful bulb.

It’s flavorful and it repels not only vampires, but cold and flu germs. It’s nutritious, helps improve cholesterol levels, and lower blood pressure. Some people go so far as to claim it is antibacterial and anti-parasitic.

There is no such thing as too much garlic.

Wear PJs to Work Day

Today is Wear Pajamas to Work Day.

One of the benefits of being a full-time author (with no Day Job) is the ability to work in your pj’s. Or your sweats. To be comfortable. If an author is physically at ease, the brain can soar. It’s so much easier to get in the zone and stay there. It’s our equivalent of Runner’s High.

Yeah. I like hanging out in sloppy clothes on the weekend. It’s my writerly uniform.
