The Witches are Coming

Series. What a funny little word. It sounds like seahorses and eyeballs, and while eyeballs can be unsettling (though don’t underestimate those seahorses), “series” doesn’t really seem like the kind of word to strike terror into unsuspecting hearts.

But it has. Though, I suppose my heart wasn’t exactly unsuspecting, but I digress.

Series. It’s coming. Specifically, the Hazel and Holly series I said I would write way back when, which was so long ago now that you probably thought I pulled a “Ju...

Guest Story: Trapped, by Tanya Miranda

I connected with Tanya a couple of years ago when I hosted my first Halloween Blog Hop. It was my first year blogging, and I really didn’t know how much interest there would be. So you might imagine my delight when people actually signed up for it, and one of those people was Tanya. She wrote several stories that year, and while I didn’t read all of them at the time, the one I did read has stuck with me as it was one of my favorites.

Now she’s got a new fantasy book coming out, The Box of Sou...

Book Review: The Viper and the Urchin

Viper and Urchin The Viper and the Urchin

Celine Jeanjean

Release date: July 27, 2015

Book source: Received an advance copy of the book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Rating: Five stars

“You see, while these little people are beneath us, we can still grant them the small respect of being impeccably groomed as we witness their final moments.” –Longinus Pendergast

Let me just say that I pretty much fell in love with Longinus from the synopsis alone. An assassin who’s afraid of blood? I knew...

Various Blogging Challenges and An Award

There are a number of blogging awards and challenges floating around out there, some of which I’ve been tagged in. So, rather than doing separate posts, I decided to bundle them up into one mega post. Woohoo! The first one up is…

The Love Hate Challenge

Celine Jeanjean over at Down the Rabbit Hole tagged me for this one. Thanks, Celine! The idea is to post ten things you love and ten things you hate, and then tag ten people to do the same.

The pedantic part of me feels compelled to point out...

Guest Article at Mythic Scribes

Looks like June is a month for guest posts, all bundled up into this past week. I’ve been wanting to write an article for Mythic Scribes pretty much since I started this blog over two years ago. Problem was I never had an idea to pitch to them. Until now.

It all came about when I was up to my eyeballs in editing woes for A Shadowed Spirit (I’m still just so thrilled just to have a title for that dang book). Some of these woes came from one character, specifically. In an effort to address thos...

An Interview at Down The Rabbit Hole

Today I’ve had my very first interview featured over at Celine Jeanjean’s blog, Down The Rabbit Hole.

I met Celine during the A to Z Challenge this year, and she immediately struck me as a fun, whimsical sort. You know, my kind of gal. So I was terribly thrilled and honored when she contacted me for an interview. In it, we talk about the research I did for The Thirteenth Tower, and some fun little tidbits of information I uncovered during the process. Head on over there to check it out!

An in...

Magical Moments

Well, May has gone, and I let it go by quietly as far as the blog is concerned. In recovering from the craziness of the A to Z Challenge, I pretty much retreated to my hidey-hole, working on finishing up my latest editing pass for my Tree and Tower sequel. This biggest news on that front is I finally settled on a title: A Shadowed Spirit. Only took me a year and a half. On the plus side, Lulu tells me it has a 69% chance of becoming a bestseller, so… bonus! The release date for that book is s...

The Short Fiction Experiment — A to Z Reflections

A-to-Z+Reflection+[2015]+-+LgWell, the A to Z Challenge is done and dusted, but, truth be told, I’m still pretty exhausted from the whole thing. If I go dark and disappear from the Interwebs for a while, you’ll know why. But not before I write a post about the whole experience.

This was my second year participating in the challenge, but this is my first reflections post on it. I didn’t do one for last year, mainly because I didn’t really have anything to say. This year, however, I do. This year, I had a goal, and I wante...

Zelkova

Zelkova paddled across the lake, taking care to disturb the water as little as possible. She slipped the oar in the water, pulled it towards her, and gently lifted it before repeating the process all over again. She could almost believe she was alone, and that she was paddling out in the open air. Crystals sparkled in the cavern ceiling, and Zelkova could almost believe that they were stars.

Ruby turned and scowled at her. “Do we have to go so slow?” She pushed a lock of red hair away from he...

Yew

Isobel walked around the mound of earth as crickets chirped in the evening air. On the hill, the branches of a great yew stretched across the twilit sky. The old woman had told her to come here—either at twilight or dawn. Isobel hadn’t wanted to wait, and so here she was, wandering through darkening field as the dampened grass chilled her feet.

She looked around, but the hill and surrounding field remained empty, other than the one yew tree. She turned towards it as she remembered what the ol...
