Do you live in Philadelphia?

If so, and you have no lunch plans on Friday, come to hear me do my very first reading of *A Skeptic's Guide To Writers' Houses* at Kelly Writers House: http://writing.upenn.edu/wh/calendar/...

It's part of Penn's Arts Crawl, and I am so excited to return to the city that spawned the idea for the book.

If you can rsvp, that's cool too.

rsvp to: wh@writing.upenn.edu or call (215) 573-9748

Are book collecting and visiting writers' houses related?

That's a question I often think about, since I have a fascination with both--a vexed yet curious one. Rebecca Bego Barry is the editor of the awesome magazine, *Fine Books & Collections.* In her very sweet blog post about *A Skeptic's Guide To Writers' Houses* she raises this question:

books are in!

Word from the wonderful people in Philly is that copies of the book are in, and ready to be shipped to their new readers' homes--including me! I can't wait to see a real live copy.

Meanwhile, I am utterly captivated by the Jonathan Franzen glasses theft hullaballo. I keep imagining it as the opening of a David Lodge novel, or perhaps a scene in a Coen brothers movie. There's something even more profound in the whole thing, perhaps, but I have not quite figured out what that might be.

Edith Wharton's Drawing Room!

I could not be more excited to be speaking at The Mount, in Edith Wharton's drawing room (Dec. 11). I am a huge Wharton fan, as well as a fan of luxurious, beautiful places, of course. To see her manse, check out: http://www.edithwharton.org/

The big question, of course, is this: what should I wear??

Langston Hughes house & Cleveland Plain Dealer

Right in my own backyard a debate is brewing about a writers' house. Read what I have to say about it here:
