Dariel’s #Sneak Peek Sunday: “Children of Cain” (WIP)

Welcome to my Sneak Peek Sunday excerpt! This is just a short piece from my next series, “Children of Cain: Ishmael.” Hope it intrigues you :-)

Angel white wings

“So let me get this straight.” Ishmael rounded on Uziel, his temper firing his next words. “Because you have failed, I have to suffer the consequences.”

“It was no failure on my part! He would not listen.” Uziel frowned, sorrow evident in his voice.

Ishmael sighed, took a step toward his friend, and folded his arms across his chest. “This ‘charge’ as you call him, needs constant supervision, and I have not been called to guard one of them in a very long time.  You are the guard, not me. I will not. I will not be remanded to that wretched place again.”

Dariel’s Sneak Peek Sunday: “Kaden’s Reprieve” (WIP)

SneekPeekSunday copy

Kaden glanced up to see Kushiel approaching. He had no official way to keep time, but after so many years, he felt the advent of Beltane in his loins. It was time, and his heartbeat still maintained its same steady rhythm. He stood completely motionless. Eons of shattered dreams faded from memory, every hope or expectation obliterated by years of torture and disappointment.

Kushiel’s fiery eyes narrowed and the heavy, double chains around Kaden’s neck fell away, clattering to the ground like a slithering snake. Kaden stretched, rolling his shoulders and massaging his neck.Kaden

Kushiel nodded and Kaden took off at a breakneck run for the surface.

Book Length: Approx. 146 pages

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Blurb:  When greedy land developers set their sights on Dark Sentinel land, Torin turns to attorney Stephanie Bates for help, but she’ll need his protection to stay alive long enough to save his land.

Real estate lawyer, Stephanie Bates, has risen to the top of her field through meticulous sacrifice and goal setting. She has no time for distractions – and that includes pets, messy relationships, and loose ends.

Torin DuMont is a forensic scientist who chose the profession to avoid dealing with people as much as possible. Raised by a stepfather who hated him, he’s been forced to live a life of solitude, fueled by anger and distrust. When wolves and shifters start turning up dead, Torin must battle an enemy bent on destroying those he was born to protect. His greatest challenge, however, is Attorney Bates and the surprising affect she has on his heart.

Susan B. Anna’s Review

One thing I can always lead off with when writing about Dariel Raye’s, Dark Sentinel series is her  great and incredible way of reeling one in.  Torin, which leads us to another pact alpha male with an agenda to save his homeland from greedy developers, never imagined falling for the uppity attorney Stephanie Bates he wants to acquire to help him preserve it.  The minute they mEet they each got under each other’s skin and the sparks between them was evidence enough that a passion will soon develop in a very hot and sultry way for the two.

Torin soon sees their relationship as rare and valuable as Stephanie soon has him longing to only get closer to her.  When Stephanie’s life is threatened, Torin can’t help but be her night and shining armor, and offers to protect her.  Torin, Book Two was a wonderful page turner and I absolutely adored how Ms. Raye brought these particular characters to light.  The Dark Sentinel men/alpha’s are not only described as hot, but, seductive, protective and very loyal to their families as well as their mates.  Truly a hot read.

Dark Sentinel’s Torin is definitely entitled to a rating scale of…

4.5 pillow

and is absolutely…

Four Star (****) Review of “Dark Sentinels Book One: Sable” from The Romance Reviews

 The Romance Reviews

 Book Reviewed by Lynn (reviewer)

[ Review Posted: Mar 24, 2013 ] - See all my reviews

DARK SENTINELS BOOK ONE: SABLE is an introduction into the secret world of rare werewolf sentinels.

Sable and his twin sister, Syreena, are sentinels—wolf shifters in charge of pack security. Akila is a veterinarian who believes in the protection of all animals. Mr. Moore is a wealthy man who wants to study shifters.

When Syreena goes missing, Sable goes out searching for her, getting himself attacked in the process. Sable is shot with a drug that inhibits him from shifting to his human form and Akila is called in to help with the cantankerous wolf. While in wolf form, Sable begins to fall for the woman who is protective and caring towards him, so he returns in his human form. The attraction is powerful and the sex is lustful but Sable is not supposed to be in a relationship with a human, especially one who doesn’t know he is the wolf she protected. However, they are forced to spend time together to figure out who is harming the animals in Akila’s town.

I love a story that makes me swoon and laugh out loud and cheer for the characters. Being a short story, there were parts of the plot that seemed rushed, but the author did a great job of establishing a world for future stories. The character development was such that I can’t wait to read more about Sable and Akila and hope they are followed up on in the next book. The story also made me eager to meet more sentinels and learn about their world and how they will fight back against the humans that would use them as science experiments.

Dariel’s Sneak Peek Sunday Snippet: “Kaden’s Reprieve” – Short Erotic Paranormal Romance

SneekPeekSunday copy

“Kaden’s Reprieve”

How the hell did they find me? I’ve been so careful! Another bullet whizzed by her. This time she smelled the sulfur. Any other woman would scream for help, but experience was a damn good teacher, and experience said screaming would just prompt him to kill her faster. Tanya’s heart drummed in her ears, beats accelerating from allegretto to vivace in seconds as she chided herself for putting her life in the hands of someone she’d never even laid eyes on.

Running footsteps behind her grew closer, but so far no more bullets whizzed by. Maybe the gun wielder preferred beating her to death. The streetlights ahead offered safety. Just a few more yards and she could disappear again. She was good at that.

Spring Break With The Romance Troupe and Possibly a New Kindle Fire!

  RomTrp Banner

The Romance Troupe is a group of writers. We write the gamut of romance from contemporary to erotic to historical, suspense, and paranormal. I enjoy writing multicultural paranormal romance and urban fantasy teetering on the erotic romance line. One of my team mates, author Suzan Tisdale asked the rest of us why we write what we write, so I’ll share my answer with you.

I enjoy writing and creating worlds with endless possibilities. Paranormal and urban fantasy offer opportunities for my imagination to soar. I like to pair alpha heroes with alpha heroines and watch the sparks fly. LOL For me, the most pleasurable reading opens windows and doors, allowing the reader to escape the mundane and trivial. I enjoy offering that much needed escape, and we could all use a little more pleasure :-) .

Another Five Star (*****) Review for “Dark Sentinels Book Two: Torin” From PRG!

DARK SENTINELS – 2

5*****Stars

Novella:  Torin

Series:  Dark Sentinels – Book 2

Author:   Dariel Raye

Publisher:  Dariel Raye

Genre:  Paranormal Romance

Rating:  Adult

Stephanie Bates is a real estate lawyer. When Torin DuMont enters her office for an appointment, Stephanie’s life will never be the same.  In spite of the fact that Steph’s office called to cancel the appointment, he insisted on waiting until she would see him.  When she finally saw him all she did was throw him out.  Not one to take no as an answer, he waits outside her office for her, only to see her being assaulted by three men.  The minute he saves her, he realizes that this human has somehow gotten his defenses down and he is attracted to her.

Torin is a werewolf and an alpha sentinel. The only alpha sentinel to be with a human is Sable, and his woman Akila.  What chance is there for him to have a relationship with a human, especially one that has no idea what he really is?  He needs Steph to protect the Wild Lands making it a federal preserve and sanctuary, but he can’t get over his need to help her.  When her apartment is broken into, he takes her to his home.  What does she know that is causing people to want to harm her?

Stephanie moved to Florida after she found her father dead.  For the first time since that happened, she feels safe with someone. Torin is that someone.  She realizes that even though there is so much about Torin she doesn’t know, she has fallen in love with him. Does he feel the same?

In this book we are also brought up to date on what happened with Sable and Akila.  Their relationship is a long distance one, and she wants more, but will Sable see it her way.  She wants marriage and a life with him but will his pack accept her?  He has finally agreed to take her to his home and introduce her to everyone in the pack. Has she finally gotten what she has always wanted?

Of course, in addition to the romance between the sentinels and their women is the ever present feeling of doom.  The sadistic Mr. Moore is still capturing wolves and using them for his evil purposes.  Torin’s wolves have gone missing, and Sable has come to help in any way he can, but will it be enough?

This was every bit as wonderful as the first, romance, sex and the constant presence of evil.  Will Torin and Steph find what Akila and Sable have?  Is there hope of a mating between a sentinel and a human? Are they compatible enough to have children together?  Well, I can’t wait for the next book so I can get some more answers and meet another hunky alpha and another amazing potential mate.

Dariel’s Satin Sheets Review of “For the Love of a Sphynx” by Heather Sharpe

When time’s the enemy, there’s no room to pussyfoot around.

Betrayed by her fiancé, Mahri Lassler swears never to risk losing her heart again. She’s convinced she may as well collect cats since she’s on the path to spinsterhood. She adopts a tomcat, and just as they’re beginning to learn each other’s idiosyncrasies, the cat bolts out the door, disappearing without a trace. Her quest to find the darn cat leads her to a confused, naked man writhing on the street. The hopeless look in his eyes touches something deep inside Mahri. Can she trust her heart enough to risk it on a man with no past? Will her love be enough to break his curse?

Review

This short reads like a full-length, but lacks the fire of the typical romance. Morgan’s 11th century fiance cursed him when he tried to explain to her that he needed to marry another woman to receive his father’s blessing.

Mahri, a relatively straight-laced woman just recently free of a painful relationship, goes to the animal shelter with her sister to find companionship in a pet kitten and chooses an adult tom-cat instead. When the cat runs away, Mahri finds a naked man near her house and takes him in.

The fact that no woman in her right mind would let a strange naked man into her home is addressed rather skillfully, but for a romance, very little chemistry exists between the hero and heroine. More references are made to Morgan, the sphynx/naked man watching Mahri in his cat form than to his watching or desiring her as a man!

The fact that Morgan is a beta becomes obvious rather quickly, but I kept hoping one of them would take action. Mahri seems complacent or ambivalent about what she thinks or wants, and Morgan uses the fact that he will be in cat-form again soon as an excuse for his lack of action towards moving the relationship forward or even protecting her.

The story is well-written, the plot is interesting, and while I enjoyed reading it because of Sharpe’s writing style, the lackluster characters left me wanting. Too much rationalizing and not enough action or passion. Despite the lack of passion, it’s still an enjoyable read. Go figure! Three (3) satin pillows.

What would you do if you came face-to-face with perfection, and it looked just like you?

Two men, one face. One man seeks to embrace destiny, the other to escape it.

Danyael Sabre spent sixteen years clawing out of the ruins of his childhood and finally has everything he wanted–a career, a home, and a trusted friend. To hold on to them, he keeps his head down and plays by the rules. An alpha empath, he is powerful in a world transformed by the Genetic Revolution, yet his experience has taught him to avoid attention.

When the perfect human being, Galahad, escapes from Pioneer Laboratories, the illusory peace between humans and their derivatives–the in vitros, clones, and mutants–collapses into social upheaval. The abominations, deformed and distorted mirrors of humanity, created unintentionally in Pioneer Lab’s search for perfection, descend upon Washington D.C. The first era of the Genetic Revolution was peaceful. The second is headed for open war.

Although the genetic future of the human race pivots on Galahad, Danyael does not feel compelled to get involved and risk his cover of anonymity, until he finds out that the perfect human being looks just like him.

Review

I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review, and  have a lot to say about this one! Jade Kerrion has created a frightening near-future-based saga filled with memorable, believable, multi-dimensional characters. In pursuit of genetic perfection, scientists, businessmen, and even the military have created a new race inhabited by beings more powerful than humans of that time.

In their haste to create perfection, apparently no one has considered the consequences. After the humans have created these beings and subjected them to confinement, endless, often painful tests, and the unforgivable abuse of dehumanization, many of these same humans hate superhumans with insane hatred as soon as they no longer have control of them, plummeting the human race and these super beings into an inevitable war, the super beings fighting for the right to live, and humans fighting to maintain control.

Two main characters at the center of this impending war are Danyael, an alpha empath, and Galahad, supposedly the perfect being. Other memorable characters are Lucien, Danyael’s wealthy best and only true friend, Miriyah, an alpha telepath, Zara, a professional assassin, and Xin, the clone of a famous power.

Throughout book one, hints of upcoming romances are clear, one romance even initiated, but relationships are just beginning to form. This book has something for sci-fi, dystopian, and romance readers who don’t mind waiting a bit for romantic relationships to take shape.

At times the story is a little too wordy, too many drawn-out conversations that could have been shortened or pre-empted for more action, but I really enjoyed “Perfection Unleashed,” as would any sci-fi lover and could easily see a television series in its future.

If you’re craving a hot romance, this is not the one for you; however, cranial relationship-based tension built thoughout the story to an exciting, unpredictable climax, the story was well-written, and I’ve already started book two of the series to find out what happens next.

Overall, Ms. Kerrion has created a very believable world with characters who are lovable despite differences. I give “Perfection Unleashed” four satin pillows because the author made me love the characters and left me with every indication that my romance-fix would eventually be satisfied.
