James is English born but has Scottish parents. The purpose of writing as far as he is concerned is to tell stories. He's written and produced stage plays, including musicals, as well as making short films for UK and international film festivals. One of his most successful stage creations, which he went on to make as a film version - was Prelude to Macbeth . This is the inspiration for his book Lady Macbeth - her early life . He wanted to create a credible story about the life of Lady Macbeth from her birth up to her marriage to Lord Macbeth. And to tell her story in a page turning way, without burdening the reader with tedious historical detail and trying to be clever with flowery language. Just the beginning

Lady Macbeth - her early life took me a year to write. In January 2013 I was visiting my daughter in Perth Australia and in the afternoons, when it was too hot to be outside - I took myself off to a quiet corner of the air conditioned house with my lap top and began to write the story.
