Mandatory ‘Who The Hell Am I’ Post

I hate these initial posts. The ones where you feel obligated to describe who you are and what you do. It’s awkward, especially because nobody may ever even read it. I’m going to make this as painless as possible, but I think you’ll get a nice little snapshot of who I am. My name is K.B. Nelson….

1. I love GIF’s. I mean, LOVE them. Entire social media conversations between my friends and myself have begun and ended with a few of these.

2. Number two involves number one. Most of the GIF’s I use...

Music and Writing

I know many other authors who write to the sweet sound of music. I envy those writers, I really do. I find that music is my single greatest inspiration for my stories. Melodies and lyrics can write a story in my head faster than the rapid frame rates of film and photography.

But I can’t listen to music when I’m writing. My words are overtaken by the music everytime. My mind is silenced by the haunting melodies and angst filled lyrics.

I’m currently working on Carnival. I can’t wait to share thi...

At Any Price? New Adult Author Walks Away From Six Figure Deal

Now before we get started, let’s remember that six figures isn’t millions of dollars. Six figures ranges from $100,000-$999,000. Still, no small chunk of change. Turning that offer down took bravery and conviction.

The author in question is Brenna Aubrey, who recently published her first novel, At Any Price. I haven’t yet had the time to read it, but it’s on my to do list. At Any Price wasn’t published through a traditional publishing house, it was published by herself. You may have heard of S...

Best Movies of 2013

In front of me are two bottles; Champagne in one, Jagermeister in the other. In a few hours, I will be ushering in 2014 the only way I know how, with friends and a bar tab that will make my bank account cry. Before I get to that level, I’ve decided to sit down and write some retrospective-ness.

It was a great year for movies but there will be a caveat to my list. I still haven’t seen most of the serious Oscar Contenders (I usually put them off, because most of my friends aren’t much interested...

#Nanowrimo Challenges and Successes

Nobody ever said Nanowrimo was easy. I mean, sure somebody out there said, “Oh my god you should totally do it. It’s easy as cake.” Those people are full of poo poo. I imagine the challenge level of nanowrimo differ between every writer. For me? I would say it’s been semi-difficult.

I’ve managed to write faster than I ever have and by weeks end it will be the most words I’ve ever written in a single story. I recently had time to go back and reread the first 10,000 words I wrote during the proj...

Too Many Ideas, Less Than A Hundred Years – NanoWriMo 2013

Almost everyone has heard it, the song100 Years byFive For Fighting. That somber little song talking about how we only have 100 years on this earth (I personally think the song should have been called 76 years – but I’m also not a songwriter).

I’m excited to participate in NanoWriMo for the first time. I’ve never been able to write a complete novel due to my constant influx of ideas into my brain. I’ll be 25,000 words into a story and then BAM, there’s something else I want to write. Indecisio...

25 Little-Known Facts About ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’

I knew most of these, but some of them are interesting. David Boreanaz was offered the role of Batman? I don’t know if I buy that.

Brokedown Highway – The Story That Almost Got Away

I wrote a screenplay six years ago during the summer I graduated high school. I called it Brokedown Highway (hey, that’s the name of this post), and it was over 140 pages long. Despite it’s length, it took only three weeks to write it; I had passion for it. So much passion, that as the years went on I completely forgot about it.

I have spent the last two weeks looking for it, obsessively I have dropped everything else I have been working on (A New Adult Novel in progress and the outline of a h...
