Lucid Dreaming

A teaser for the Holidays! Coming in January, Lucid Dreaming....

description

Jules Logan is beautiful, smart, quirky, but most of all... a free spirit, someone who has travelled a hard road for her twenty-five years young. Where her love life is concerned? Jules is a fly by night kind of girl. Like her finances, 'real' relationships are alien and never smooth. Nothing could prepare her for Aaron. Nothing.

Teaser from 'Lucid Dreaming':

“Aaron drained the last of his beer, shoving it back onto the counter.
"Your friend doesn't seem to like me much," he smiled, leaning in a touch too close on the 'much'.
Jules inhaled the soft waft of his cologne again, which was subtle but seductively sweet. Her breath caught 'again', her eyes landing on the pool of her brown drink. She'd been looking at it for God knows how long, going over and over again in her mind the slippery slope...
Jules felt drawn to Aaron, and it was something powerful, much more than just liking the way he looked, or his cocky mannerisms, his general hot-ness...it was more the revelation that Jules hadn't quite experienced feelings as strong as this before. It was some megawatt chemistry.
Aaron got to her. Like really got to her. He didn't seem intimidated by any of her usual blow-off, oft rude, stand-offish ways.
Guys like Aaron certainly did not come along everyday.
"Alessa is just being cautious."
"Cautious. Whatever happened to giving a guy a chance?" he chuckled.
"That's not her problem. I mean, it's not so much about you. It's about 'me'. She may not know you, but she sure as hell knows 'me'."
That last statement drew a hearty laugh from Aaron, who took the opportunity of slipping one hand around Jules's waist and pulling her close until their bodies were more than grazing each other. "Well, bring it on, babe, 'cause I'm definitely feeling this fusion vibe we got."
Jules nodded, one hand holding her fur coat from sliding onto the floor, the other suspended just above Aaron's broad chest. She was more than feeling it. Inexplicably, Aaron felt like he was the part that had been missing from her life, the missing piece that made a 'whole'. And, the desire to unify was currently burning strong as hell in the space between her legs. She was thrumming up a heated storm down there and the man hadn't even done what now felt like the inevitable. He hadn't made a real move.
'Perplexed' is how Jules looked, and crazy nervous is how she felt.
Aaron grinned, moving his hand to her coat. He took it from her.
"Hey, Mike. You hold on to this for a bit?"
The bartender nodded, taking the bulky coat and stuffing it on a heap of other unidentified items behind the bar.
Jules looked on, transfixed, speechless. "A'ight, let's move," Aaron said, taking her hand firmly and lacing his fingers in hers like it was the most natural thing in the world, like she was his woman, like they'd known each other for years.” Lucid Dreaming © L. S. Bergman

Sample Sunday

#WIP this is a teaser from my current still untitled Work in Progress a follow-on from Second Chances.

description

Blurb:

This is the story of Jules Logan, a young woman with a very troubled past, a past she wants to forget. A past, matched with a rebellious temperament, which has led her to receive more than her fair share of troubles. Self-destructive she may be, but Jules isn't swayed. She can deal with her troubles, especially when it comes to the frequent attentions of men. Nothing seems to faze her. Except, the chance hook-up with a guy called Aaron Simmons manages to do just that. He totally messes-up her apple cart. Aaron is drawn to the beautiful sexy diamond he sees, a diamond without the rough.

Release date maybe before Christmas, otherwise early January 2017. Keep you posted, enjoy!

#WIP Teaser:

“The chime above the door rang again, as all eyes followed the sound.

Jules stood in the doorway, her eyes shifting from her mother’s to Aaron’s, Joe's, then back across the empty restaurant to her mother again. Aaron stilled, his eyes pinned onto Jules’. He could feel her surprise shift to discomfort. He read all the things her eyes were feeding him. Hurt. Loneliness. Confusion. Pain.

Releasing the door handle, it clattered shut behind her. Aaron got up, but Joe gestured for him to stay put.

Tilting her head in her mother’s direction, chin raised, her eyes looked fierce. “Hello, mother,” Jules said, shifting, then straightening her stance, looking ready to do battle. Defiant, but beautiful.

“Hello, my daughter,” Deirdre replied, endeavoring a smile which fell flat almost as quickly as she tried to muster it. I was in the neighborhood so I decided to stop by.”

“Did you?”

“I did.”

The two women were having one hell of a face-off, and Aaron didn’t have the first clue about what it concerned, let alone what to do about it. What kinds of things brought a mother and daughter to a point like this? The atmosphere inside the restaurant was suddenly rivaling the biting winter’s cold outside.

“So, is there something you want, mother?” Jules fidgeted slightly with her hands.

“What do I ‘want’? Is that a way to greet your mother?,” Deirdre muttered under her breath. “I know what you both think of me.”

“Mother, it’s not like you come here often or anything. In fact, I don’t see or hear from you for weeks, and that’s not for lack of trying. I tried everything to get hold of you. You’re permanently unavailable. You never even answer my calls.”

“Come on Jules, get over it! You’re a big girl. You of all people must know how life is sometimes,” she said, sounding bitter.

Jules’ eyes shifted uncomfortably over to Aaron. They looked searchingly, as he held her gaze, exuding safety, calm. Jules nodded, sucking in her bottom lip. “Have you two met?”

“Met who?” Deirdre swiveled to look at Aaron, still seated at the table.

Making the connection, Deirdre’s eyes widened as if she was seeing Aaron for the first time, pleased with what she was seeing, curious even. A smile cracked the side of her mouth, her gaze moving from her daughter’s face back to Aaron’s. “Well, who do we have here?”

“Mother this is Aaron. He’s a friend,” Jules paused. “Aaron, this is my mother, Deirdre Logan.”

“Nice to meet you,” he said, closing the space and politely offering his hand.

As her slender fingers slipped into his, all Aaron noticed was how exceptionally beautiful she was. Distinguished looking, classy, her features chiseled, her complexion unlined... 'black certainly don't crack.'

“And you,” she said in a mischievous manner, enjoying his attention.

Aaron focused on her eyes again. They were a beautiful honey-brown. Replicas of Jules’.

“Have you known my daughter long, Aaron?”

“No, not long,” he answered truthfully.

“Well then,” she chuckled. “Enjoy it while it lasts…”

“Enough,” Jules warned, drawing nearer, her eyes spitting fire.

“Listen, Deirdre, let’s not do this now, a’ight,” Joe interrupted. “Besides, Celine has been asking about you for so long now. Come upstairs and pay her a visit, nuh? She wants to pray wid yah.”

Deirdre shot her daughter a pugnacious side-eye, before softening and taking the bait. “A’ight Joseph, my brother, let’s do that. Let me show my face to Celine. And, as for you?” she threw back at Jules.

Sliding-off her stool. Hesitating in front of her daughter for a lingered moment, long enough for her eyes to do some more battle, “I’ll deal with you later.” Posturing for a moment longer with a slow shake of the head, Deirdre followed Joe around the bar and up the backstairs to his apartment above.

“So?” Jules whispered, releasing a sigh. Taking off her jacket, she went over and hung it on the row of hooks behind the door.

“So,” Aaron smiled, stuffing his hands deep into his jeans pockets as he watched her intently.

“I guess, we got the crazy-ass family part out the way huh? …at least on my side. I’m sorry for my mum’s piss poor mood,” she smiled 'matter-of-factly'. “By the way, what the heck are you doing here anyway? Friggin’ spying on me or what?”

“No, baby, not spying… just hungry, missing you, wanting to see you,” he said, tugging her flush against him. Her breath hitched.

Aaron noticed.

“Why? Does me being here bother you?”

“No. I have nothing to hide from you,” she said, with a seductive gaze, welcoming the feel of his breath, his proximity.

“Then, things are as they should be,” he said, his baritone faltering slightly, his eyes darkening as he watched her moisten her lips, unable to hold out much longer, he sealed his mouth to hers...”

Inevitable Lies

Throwback Teaser

#TBT Here's a throwback teaser from Inevitable Lies, an IR Romance with a touch of suspense, which I released earlier this year.

description

I had this story buzzing in my head for a while, and finally decided to write it. It came in one piece, and I loved every minute of the process because I got to weave and work with several places that are and have been 'home' to me over the years.

Hope you'll like :)

#romance #multicultural #IRRomance #interracial #readingissexy #love #Caribbean

Inevitable Lies:

"You made it, man!" David cried out, over the music and the laughter, as another passing friend uttered something in Patois into David's ear, which was reciprocated with an immediate laugh and an enthusiastic slap on the back.

"Wouldn't have missed this," Luis replied, breaking-off their dance to give David a manly embrace. "Happy birthday!"

"Thanks, man," David replied, smiling from ear to ear, before turning his attention to Joy.

"Yeah, happy birthday," she reiterated, kissing his cheek.

"Man, all this attention from such pretty ladies in one day! I got you," he mused, pulling Joy into a complete bear hug, rocking her from side to side.

'Yup, David's definitely tight right now', Joy laughed, as he released her.

"What you guys drinking?"

"We're alright we've got beers," Luis replied, placing one arm around Joy's shoulder.

"We've got everything, so enjoy yourselves," David smiled, as the beautiful slender woman he had been dancing with earlier laced one arm around his middle, obviously eager for him to return her attentions.

David didn't introduce them. He just swayed a little, before looking lovingly into the pretty girl's eyes.

"Dance, baby?" she coaxed, her voice silky smooth, flicking one hand through her curls.

Smiling at the beguiling look on David’s face, Joy took a few gulps of her beer.

It was still hot, but the early evening shadows were lengthening, as the outside lights, hanging in the trees surrounding the lawn, were switched on.

"Now, Tallah, how could I refuse," David replied, feigned agony in his voice, his gaze still focused, traveling over every inch of the beautiful woman’s body. The expert womanizer that he was, David was a guy who honestly loved women. There was no dishonesty there.

Joy rolled her eyes as David smiled suggestively at the pretty Tallah. Luis couldn't resist a low chuckle.

As David and Tallah wandered a little way off, Luis grabbed Joy's hips and turned her back to him. "Another girl," he commented, winking down at her. David had a steady stream of ladies, as he would call them.

"It's like they can't resist him," Joy added.

"That doesn't work for me though." Luis pulled her closer, the cold beer bottle lightly pressing against the middle of her back, sending a shiver down her spine.

"Oh, yeah, I’m sure Ruby wouldn't say no.”

He chuckled again, a low sexy rumble.

“So, you’re not tempted?" she asked, feeling his lips begin to nuzzle playfully against her neck, tickling, as she tilted her head to allow him better access.

"No, because, I’m a one woman kind of guy," he muttered, caressing her firm ass and pressing it to meet the sensitive bulge in his pants. As the soft accents of her coconut body oil filled his nostrils, swaying in unison, Luis was in sensual heaven.” Inevitable Lies © 2016 L. S. Bergman

Sample Sunday

New Release, Second Chances...

description

This is a teaser from my #NewRelease 'Second Chances', an Afro-Caribbean #romance set in London, I released this on Friday. Second Chances is more of a prelude novella for me because one or two of these characters will be showing up again in my current #WIP which I'm in the middle of. But for those who've already read Second Chances, all eyes on Keith for the next one! Hope you'll check it out...

Sample for #SampleSunday:

Dawn:

"I took my time to have a lie in. It was Saturday morning, and after another hectic week, of legal stress at the office, school runs and trying to figure out the new balance in my life; it felt good to lie in.

I had been in court twice this week, representing two familial disputes. Since Keith and I split, I was really wondering whether my choice of profession, or my chosen area of family law to be more precise, had really been the wisest choice. If I wasn't already feeling like a failure in my private life, I was spending much of my work day trying to give pep talks and formulate arguments on behalf of clients who were suffering as much as I was.

To top it all, I could never let on.

My private life was always separate. My relationship with Keith was a fact I only shared with a close few, and Keith and I liked it that way. We both respected our chosen professions. I was good at what I did, and had built quite a reputation in the Family Division as a solicitor who held no punches.

Comfortable as the high-flyer, the last two months began to seem just a little too ironic, and close to home for my liking. I was never the victim. Until now.

An annoying chirping resonated from my phone, as I swiped the alarm. I'm up already.

The house was still quiet.

Robert had probably stayed up half the night with his on-line stuff that seemed to keep him constantly occupied. And, Anya was the type of child who would sleep through anything. She was such a deep sleeper, I usually had to go into her room three times each morning to get her out of the land of nod. First, it was the curtain opening routine. The second round was usually turning on her favorite London Breakfast radio. If that didn't work, the good old 'we're gonna be late' shake usually got her going.

I yawned and stretched out.

I loved this bed. Keith and I had upgraded to a luxury massive King size just a year ago. Finally letting it sink in that we weren't exactly poor anymore. We were well off, able to afford a house in the suburbs having first bought the loft in Chelsea, just off the King's Road when the money first started to flow. Correction. Keith had bought the loft. We had split the cost of our house on principle. I still wanted to be seen as a contributing factor in our relationship. It was the smartest move I'd made.”

Second Chances

My New Release, Second Chances, felt like a prelude to something bigger.
Dropping it tomorrow, Sep 16th. Hope you'll add it, check it out AND enjoy! description

Blurb:

What happens when the 'love of your life', a fairy-tale romance, ends abruptly. Too abruptly. And in the middle of all the mess and pain, the perfect new guy comes along. Too quickly.

Dawn Banks, competent lawyer and mother of two, has just split from her long-term life partner and father of her two children, Keith Parker, front-man for the newly famed band 'Soul & Ice'. Keith was everything Dawn was searching for in a man. He was her soulmate. Or, so she'd convinced herself. They've shared a mountain of history, taken a long journey...together. Except now, times change, and that togetherness has been shattered.

Keith's philandering has left Dawn alone, humbled by infidelity and faced with a new single life status, a status she no longer has any clue about.

But chance is a funny thing.

A chance encounter with a gorgeous man offers Dawn a new glimpse of the sublime. Sean Jones's world literally collides with Dawns, and he is everything Keith is not.

But the ties of old love run deep.

Is Dawn ready to take a second chance at love? Is she even sure she's strong enough?

IR Romance, Inevitable Lies

IR ‪#‎romance‬  is something I enjoy writing,
description
not exclusively, but I do not shy away from it, as it's part of the reality I've lived and see evolving around me every day. Categories tend to baffle me anyway...IMO, ‪#‎Love‬ is love

In Inevitable Lies, I explore an unlikely pairing, where criminal circumstances place two people together, Detective Luis Richter and Joy Evans, who are both headstrong individuals, fearlessly intent upon following their human desires regardless of the dangers or consequences involved. Hope you enjoy ;)...

Teaser, Inevitable Lies:

“It was quiet, and Luis liked it that way. He loved having Joy to himself.

Cuddled together on the single lounger, they were watching the sun set from the terrace.

“I never got to do so many things for myself before,“ Joy said, twisting to face Luis. “I always had people helping me, you know?“

He nodded, drawing her closer.

“I mean, I could cook, but I never felt really at home in my kitchen. I was kind of a slob too. The help would always clean-up after me. If I needed anything, there was always someone who would make it happen. Always,“ she breathed, her furrowed brow relaxing as she looked out at the brilliant dance of orange, pinks and purples which flamed the horizon. It was breathtaking.

Luis brushed her nose with his lips, sensing her need to talk. He also had things he wanted to get off his chest. His time would come.

“I never really knew whether I could make it on my own. I mean, I knew how to do the professional thing, working life, the keeping up appearances in public...but looking after my life, keeping a house, cleaning, cooking, looking after someone else...I didn't know any of that.“

“You mean slumming it?“ Luis chuckled, the sound rumbling against the side of her head.

Joy swatted his bare chest, before mesmerized by the muscular contours, she started to stroke it.

“This isn't slumming it, Luis. This is perfection for me, getting to be here with you, being able to feel like a real woman with you. You've showed me I could do it. You let me do it.“

“So it's a good thing...“ Joy could feel him smile into her hair, as she turned her mouth to his chest, sucking and licking in reply.

“Mmm...mmm,“she purred, “a very good thing.“
She felt his breath hitch. Enough talk.“

Second Chances

My new Afro-Caribbean romance, Second Chances, is coming soon...ish.
description
Yup, it now has a title, and just editing...tedious but true lol
So, I hope you'll enjoy this pre- #newrelease teaser.

Second Chances:

'Second Chances' for a deep love rarely come twice. Well, not in 'real life' anyway. And, for Dawn Banks that is 'truth'. Until, two men, offering two very different life-paths come to mess with her still tentative, oft doubt-riddled heart. 'Temptation' is everywhere Dawn turns...Enjoy!

“Sean gradually pulled back, his kisses calming in intensity, until only the faintest flutter sprinkled my lips and I opened my eyes in a haze, training them on his.

His eyes were hooded, and his expression pained.

He exhaled, looking totally moved, bending resignedly to kiss the nape of my neck. The feel of his mouth there made my skin prickle even more, my breasts still heaving against his firm chest.

"Awww, shoot," he sighed again, raising his head. "Work."

I stared, sucking in my bottom lip, trying to register the new feel of them having gone through some much needed kissing action. At last.

"Work," I breathed, as his lips skimmed mine again, catching the word in his mouth.

"Can I call you?" he asked, pulling away and reaching one hand in his pocket to retrieve his phone.

"Sure."

He offered it me, and I punched in my number letting it ring, as we both turned to watch my phone vibrate on the counter next to him. A beautiful satisfied smile swept over his face once more. I swear, my heart missed a beat.

"No over-analyzing a'ight, sweetheart?" He tapped my nose lightly, before pulling me in for a warm hug.

He'd already sensed that much about me. My tendency to want to know everything, and generally think too much.

My hours of reckoning would surely come later. But, for now, the feel of Sean's solid chest, his smell, his labored breathing was a beautiful distraction,a complete assault on my senses. I nodded, determined to linger in the moment for all it was worth. Forget on-line dating, all of that was bullshit compared to this.”

My Work in Progress

‪Teaser‬ in the summertime...
My work in progress ‪#‎WIP‬, ‪#‎editing‬...Coming soon..ish!
description
So, Dawn Banks is slowly figuring her new single-life-balance out. Except, the funny thing is, it is usually at exactly that moment that life has a way of serving up something major to upset the apple cart. This is Dawn's curve ball moment. Guess who's back? Hope you like...

“A week had passed since I had that first kiss with Sean in my kitchen. Things had been ticking along nicely since then. We had been getting to know each other, and, the more I found out about him, the more I knew I was falling for him. He had some killer attributes, all the composites for what my mum would call a sexy pair of safe hands. I felt suspended in mid-air most times, like time no longer ran the way it used to. The only thing I was clocking was the next time I got to sneak out and see Sean.

We met mostly over at his place in the late evening, and he'd been over twice for a late breakfast. Both of us were only too happy to embrace our new thing for flexible working. Work had its place, but in my life, Sean was always lurking in my lustful thoughts. It was like I was on heat or something.

Sunday had come around again, and Rob had gone to football practice at the local junior club. Anya was still moseying around the house in her nightie, and I was in similar mode.

Sean was at Church. I smiled, another major brownie point for mum. I knew, Sean would be a definite keeper in her eyes.

He hadn't invited me to come along. I could tell it meant a lot to him, and I hadn't been to Church in years. Claudia and I used to joke that mum and dad's faithfulness would have to save us all. But I liked that Sean had a private spiritual side. He didn't bring it up much, other than to say, he believed in the power of prayer.

'It had brought me you'.

The doorbell rang, as I waited for Anya to budge. I was buried in notes at my desk, deep in my quiet comfort zone, trying to get my arguments straight for the morning. The bell sounded again... and...again...Until, I gave up and shoved my chair back, rushing downstairs to answer it.

Swinging it open, my heart leaped in my chest.
Keith.

"Hey," he said, leaning in to kiss my cheek, as I let him do it, still frozen. Immobilized.

"I thought you were still..." I mumbled.

"We got back early this morning. I wanted to see you, the kids, so I rushed over," he said, drawing me in for a hug. His body gelled with mine, in that familiar fit, his cologne, a woodsy spice tinged with the hint of his smokes, embracing my flared nostrils.

Damn, he looked good.

Tanned, his hair had grown longer, now nearly shoulder length. He was still that irresistible kind of rugged sexy.

As he released me, he caught my eye and laughed inwardly, sliding a hair-tie from his wrist and putting his hair back. My eye caught sight of a new tattoo, just on the inner side of his upper bicep. It looked like three initials intertwined as one, an A and an R with a D at the center. I sucked in a breath. Damn, damn this man.

"You look good, Dawn. I mean, you always look good baby, just sayin'..." he trailed off, giving me that seductive unwavering look through his sleepy-looking eyes.

I felt as if all oxygen had been cut-off from reaching my lungs.

"Daddy!" came Anya's scream, as she pelted down the stairs and was whisked into his arms in the next instant. I tore my eyes away, my heart racing in my chest as I searched inwardly for calm. "When did you get back?" she squealed.

"This morning, sweetpea. Man, you're getting heavy for your old man, and looking nearly as beautiful as your mother." Anya melted against him some more, as I swayed past them both, heading for the kitchen. I was in desperate need of a cool glass of water.
