JESSICA DARLING’S IT LIST 2: The (Totally Not) Guaranteed Guide to Friends, Foes & Faux Friends

ItList2_500PREORDER NOW! ON SALE SEPTEMBER 2014

Is it impossible for old elementary-school friends and new junior-high friends to all get along as just, you know, friends?  Good or bad, that’s what I’m about to find out.

Jessica Darling is finally getting the hang of seventh grade! Hosting an epic slumber party might even help to make Jessica popular…but is that what she really wants? New York Times bestselling author Megan McCafferty’s It List series introduces readers to Jessica Darling, an unabashedly brainy seventh grader who tries to stay true to herself, even if it means being (totally not) cool.

Ask! Authors! Anything!

I’m BEYOND EXCITED about my partnership with Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls at the Party  as the host of a new web series called:

Ask! Authors! Anything!

Famous writers. Favorite books. And fangirling.

I’m serious about the fangirling. How serious? My first two guests are SARAH DESSEN and LAURIE HALSE ANDERSON. I KNOW, RIGHT? It might be too much YA awesomeness for me to handle. We’ll be joined by a lucky group of students from the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders. Jealous? Don’t be. You can get in on the conversation two ways:

1. Submit questions you’d like me to ask Sarah during our chat. You can do this on the brand spanking new Ask! Authors! Anything! Tumblr or tweet @meganmccafferty. Please get your questions to me by 9AM EST on Monday, March 24th.

2. Join in on the LIVE Google Hangout on Monday, March 24th from 1:30-2:30EST. (The sign up page isn’t ready just yet but will be very soon. I PROMISE.)

If you can’t join live, no worries. Highlight clips will be posted on the Smart Girls at the Party site. Finally, get in touch via megan@meganmccafferty.com, Twitter or Tumblr if you’re a teacher, librarian or bookseller interested in having your tween or teen book club featured in a future episode.

ASK! AUTHORS! ANYTHING!

Episode One: Sarah Dessen

Monday, March 24th 1:30-2:30EST

Episode Two: Laurie Halse Anderson

Monday, April 21st 1:30-2:30EST

JESSICA DARLING’S IT LIST Q&A Roundup!

CHOICES.They asked, I answered! Here are my favorite interviews about JESSICA DARLING’S IT LIST the middle grade prequel to SLOPPY FIRSTS on sale now.

School Library Journal ”Those ‘Darling’ Middle School Years”

“Whenever she’s gets close to figuring out middle school—BAM!—she’s hit with another ‘WHAT THE HECK?!’ moment. For Jessica Darling, growing up is a comedy of trials and many, many errors.”

Time For Kids ”Wits About Her”

“Jessica Darling is both an insider and an outsider. She notices things, she thinks too much, and sometimes she doesn’t think enough. She’s flawed and she makes mistakes, and I think it’s those mistakes that make her relatable.”

Publisher’s Weekly ”A Fresh Start for Jessica Darling”

“This series is for the 10 and up reader who is meeting Jessica Darling for the first time…I would love my older readers to read it and then give it to the tween in their lives and say, ‘Here’s this great girl, Jessica Darling. She was one of my favorites growing up and now you can read her, too.”

Forever Young Adult: Between Two Lockers Interview ”HRH Stops By FYA to Dish About Junior High Jessica Darling (& Marcus Flutie!)

“I’m inspired to write middle grade fiction by the tweens in my real life, including my son, his friends, my friends’ daughters, and my nieces. I also volunteer at my son’s school library so I hear first-hand what kids care about—in books and beyond. They remind me that their passions and preoccupations aren’t all that different than mine when I was their age. I keep that in mind as I’m writing. That’s it.”

Entertainment Weekly ”Check Out The Cover for Megan McCafferty’s Jessica Darling Prequel!”

“People have asked me if I saw myself continuing Jessica’s story and quite honestly I don’t. I don’t see myself writing beyond Perfect Fifths. I agree with you: I love the way that story ends; it’s exactly how I wanted it to be. But this is different: It’s deepening a story without messing with the ending.”
