BUMPED: My next novel!

Bumped is the only reason why I haven’t been totally distraught about ending the Jessica Darling series. I’m spending the rest of 2009 and early 2010 writing it. Here’s the official announcement via HarperCollins:

Alessandra Balzer at Balzer & Bray/HarperCollins Children’s Books acquired World English rights to New York Times bestselling author Megan McCafferty’s new novel in a two-book deal from Heather Schroder at ICM. Bumped is a sharply funny and provocative dystopian novel set in a world wh

Barry-oke By the Numbers

manilowliveI have the best job because:

1. I get paid to make up stuff like Barry-oke. (By now you should know all about Barry-oke. If you don’t, just click here.)

2. I get to have book signings in which I can ask my audience to make Barry-oke requests AND THEY WILL ACTUALLY MAKE BARRY-OKE REQUESTS.

3. I get to perform Barry-oke for in front of a live audience. THIS IS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS.

For fun, I tallied up  all the Barry-oke song requests from my signings in Princeton, NYC, Stamford, Tysons Corner and L.A.

Thank you, BookPage!

bookpage-509-pg-312“Candy-colored book covers often indicate saccharine heroines too focused on chasing new purses and cute guys to develop real character, but McCafferty allows Jessica to grow up, taking her from age 16 to 26 through the five-book series that culminates in Perfect Fifths. Without getting stuck in either the Young Adult or Chick Lit category, McCafferty competes with Gossip Girl and Bridget Jones—and holds her own…Jessica Darling is a smart heroine who doesn’t lose her head—or her skirt—over every

Thank you for making Perfect Fifths a NYT Bestseller!

perfectfifths1A reader asked me: Does this still mean anything?

The answer: Yes. Very much so. But not in the way you might think.

When the global economy is in the crapper, and not a day goes by that I don’t read an article sounding the death knell for book publishing and print in general, readers like you spent your hard-earned cash to find out what happens to these characters I totally made up.

That means something to me. Making the list (to be posted May 3rd) is a sweet bonus.

Thank you.
