Some reasons not to use Reddit.com for anything
So after a frustrating, useless experience I will never be using Reddit.com again!
Here is what happened to me, and I felt I may as well post about it since I told them I would. I never make idle threats, so here is my post, for better or worse:
Reddit is the biggest piece of garbage website ever. I’m so annoyed with them right now that I am trying hard not to use profanity in this post. I LOVE profanity. I don’t care what anyone says: it can be very powerful to make points with. I actually recommend it in your writing since people ask me that. My suggestion is this: use it as needed and have it fit any specific characters or circumstances. Don’t just drop F bombs for the sake of doing so.
Anyway, here is why I restraining myself (and I didn’t do so with their poor but useless moderators, Kitsy and Ducky-O (or whatever his name was, I honestly don’t remember).
For those of you who don’t know, Reddit.com has a BOOK section. You have to sign up for their site to post. This was a reasonable but still time-consuming process. I went ahead and did all that.
I then went to post something in books: they allow a section for links and a section for text. THe site itself looks like something out of the 1980′s too. I don’t know why they don’t have an image upload setting to combine with the posts, but they don’t – at least none I could find.
Anyway, so I finally create a post and published it after I created my account. I was rather excited to hopefully promote my newest book, Shamblers, on another venue. As soon as I posted, I got an email from them. It read something like “you’re new so you can’t post, please wait 24 hours.”
I was like…ok -if you say so? It didn’t really make any sense to me though, isn’t that the reason you have people signup for your site? For the privilege of posting? But you still make them wait? As if I have time between my other marketing, social media, and regular life stuff to do this too? Okay, whatever Reddit.
I returned to them a week later when I remembered them. I posted again. This time, I got “shadowbanned!” WOOOO! Sounds spooky! I was informed that I can’t put links to Amazon. Okay, so you have BOOKS but people can’t link to actual books? And they can’t self-promote (I learned there was a self promote link later).
I emailed the moderator back to request I be re-instated. It seemed a bit extreme that after 1 post I was totally banned..of the shadow variety at that! I got a snarky reply back. I then told them what they could do, and where they could go, and what I thought of them and their site: and I let the profanity fly. They had earned it at that point.
I was then told that my attitude wasn’t helping and they may not reinstate me. WHOA…big man, Duck72 or whatever your name was. As if it mattered to me at this point? I told him not to bother, I wouldn’t be back, and I’d put a post just like this so people everyone could learn that Reddit.com is a useless, crappy site with horrible policies and a general waste of time.
So if you want a monotonous experience and a useless forum with a bunch of clowns moderating it who think they’re important, go to Reddit.com

As surely as men wage war against each other, so do supernatural deities fight for human souls in the afterlife. What are the deciding factors that determine where a human soul goes upon death? Is it the measure of a human’s character on Earth, and the deeds they have done, or something different altogether? What if one soul has the potential to sway the supernatural battle?
A wealthy, successful lawyer, who seeks justice for those who have none, may be this exact soul. He is still unclaimed, and has a nearly-unlimited capacity for good or evil. When this lawyer’s family is killed, he is forced to make a difficult, moral decision. The consequences of it could forever change humanity. What will his choice be: will this lawyer accidentally bring about the apocalypse, or will he prevent it? The final outcome of humanity, the very end of the world, could rest upon his shoulders.
This novel is best classified as Speculative Fiction or Literary Fiction. It contains an interesting mix of horror, supernatural, religious, apocalyptic, and adventure elements. It may best be compared to Dante’s Inferno, The Da Vinci Code, or the movie Constantine. This novel also contains an alternate ending.
Throughout the book, several age-old concepts are questioned. Many philosophical and religious ideas are raised for the character and readers to mull over. One topic that The Great Deceiver explores is whether or not God really exists. It also asks the fundamental question that nearly every, single person who has ever lived has asked: is there life after death? Related to this question are sub-questions like: what happens when we die? Is there such a thing as Heaven? Is there such a thing as Hell? In its own way, The Great Deceiver attempts to answer all of these questions. It does this through the characters within the novel, in a vivid and compelling manner
As these timeless questions about Heaven, Hell, and God are brought up, they naturally dredge up a fair amount of religious controversy; much of it centers around the Roman Catholic Church and its leaders. This is not done to argue about any religion. It isn’t done to prove whether one religion is right and another is wrong. It isn’t done to debate or discredit any doctrine. It is all brought up solely to make readers think, and to offer everyone an enjoyable, unique experience which they can relate with, regardless of their chosen faith.
Finally, there are a lot of dark elements within this novel. It deals with things that people take very serious, obviously: God, the bible, the afterlife, and the end of the world or the apocalypse. Yet these serious topics are offset by a lot of incredible humor that is pervasive throughout the novel.

Shamblers: the zombie apocalypse – First Month Overview
Hi fans and readers,
I just wanted to supply a new update: it has been exactly one month (well, give or take a day) since the release of Shamblers: the zombie apocalypse.
I wanted to provide some insight for everyone as to how it’s doing. The answer is: very.very well.
I have seen 1,760 free downloads on the promotional days I’ve had. It has had 28 users borrow it from the Kindle Lending Library. It has also had 12 eBooks sell. It has also sold at least 8 paperback copies, including the ones I have personally sold to people.
That is a total of over 1,800 copies of Shamblers in 30 days! At it’s peak, Shamblers had a promo day of 1,279 downloads. It also hit #4 in Horror and #4 in Thriller categories on Amazon and it ranked #152 overall: that is out of over 2 million books! I want to thank everyone who now has a copy.
Don’t believe me? Here is the screenshot I took to prove it (notice the Best Seller rank shows #184- it went up after this, then dropped once again).
Here is another screenshots that show it’s ranking in Horror (it dropped down 1 spot, like I said…boo):
This is obviously AWESOME news. What is even better is that Shamblers has been getting rave reviews from fans. It has picked up a number of stellar 5-star reviews. This makes me so happy that I don’t have words to describe it. Included in the reviews are comments like the following:
“Read it in one sitting! A Very entertaining read.”
“Compared to all the other zombie literature this has to be one of the best ones I’ve read.”
“A really great story. Read it without stopping.”
“Nice twist at the end. I very much enjoyed this gritty, treacherous, unflinching view of the zompoc. I think you will too.”
“This was a never ending thrill ride from start to finish. The details and characters draw you in right away and I felt like I was right there…I was actually holding my breath in places, and loved the twist at the end!”
This is a very exciting August for me! I hope it leads to a huge September and October!
I once again want to thank everyone!

I am truly excited for this zombie apocalypse novel and here’s a few cool reasons why: 14+ characters who get to die in awesome ways (usually from zombies), 3 major fights against zombies, a showdown with enemy survivors, a stunning betrayal, an intensely cruel and devious villain, a hero who has to save his woman, a great *** scene.
One thing I really enjoy about this novel is the hyper-realism that you would expect from people in an apocalypse – I don’t believe in stupid characters who look behind a door knowing that their death is imminent behind it -the characters behave and act in realistic ways. They often have to make very difficult choices.
Shamblers feels like a mix of the TV series The Walking Dead (of which I am a huge fan) and the Western, Unforgiven. It isn’t just a horror story: it’s a mix of horror and fast-paced action. T The setting is Northern California, in a fictionalized version of the town of Payne’s Creek and the surrounding area. It takes place after the initial zombie outbreak.
Make sure you act now to get this free download, of the free ebook, free for kindle, free book deal, free novel, free horror novel, and all the other good keywords I can put in here to make it trigger on search engines. The key point is it is a free zombie novel. Get this free download August 12th and August 13th on Kindle.

Interview with Kate Mary – author of Collision and Broken World
Interview with Kate Mary – author of Collision and Broken World
Here is what she asked me and here is how I responded.
1. What do you write and why?
I write a bunch of different genres. I write fantasy because I am a huge fan of it. The same holds true for sci-fi. I write horror because I am naturally morbid and weird, and get a kick of giving people the heeby-jeebies. I write thrillers because, frankly, who doesn’t appreciate a good thriller? I just enjoy writing in general. It is my passion.
2. What kind of books do you enjoy reading?
I like to read fantasy, particularly series, since I chew through a single book fast and then I want to see more. A good series gives me a lot to read in one chunk. I like complicated plots and intricate characters.
3. Bragging time! Gush as much as you want about your book (or books) and let us know why it’s the next book we have to read.
Shamblers: the zombie apocalypse and The Great Deceiver were each released in 2014, from April-July. I wrote Shamblers in less than a month, and it is dominating right now. I expect it to add a whole new depth to the zombie apocalypse genre, and once people see the clever dynamics between my good and evil characters that are mixed in with the zombies, it should be big. I know how to draw a reader in, and that one was tailored for people who already know what they like and what they are looking for. It is geared to the zombie enthusiast who is looking for more.
4. Give us five random facts about you:
I play guitar. I have mad hacky-sack skills. I recently injured my L5-S1 disk in my back and have had ongoing pain. I dislike ongoing pain. I have a dry and witty sense of humor.
5. What are your favorite types of characters?
Characters that learn from their mistakes.
6. Do you have a character in one of your books that you really identify with? (Or in another book.)
Perhaps Blain Clegg, in The Winds of Change > he grows up working terrible jobs and hating them. He is kind of forced into his family business. I can definitely identify with that.
7. What can we expect from you in the future?
We shall see. I have a good sci-fi idea I’ve been developing, and also a mystery/thriller involving a serial killer.
8. What’s your favorite thing about writing?
It relaxes me and helps me focus. It pushes me to be the very best at what I can do. I like the sense of accomplishment.
9. What has been your least favorite thing about being a writer?
Always the editing. It is lots of work and not much fun.
10. What is your all-time favorite book?
This is a tough one. I will say The Thief of Always by Clive Barker, though there are certainly others that are up there. I pick this book because as a kid it was really fun to read, and even today the characters are memorable.
11. Favorite movie?
Fallen with Denzel Washington and John Goodman.
12. Television show?
Seinfeld
13. How do you feel about zombie books and movies?
I enjoy them both.
14. How do you think you would fare in a zombie apocalypse? Would you be the first one out, etc?
I would do ANYTHING necessary to survive. I’m ruthless that way. You had best hope we don’t cross paths in it, or I’d be taking your food.
15. How prepared are you for the inevitable day when a zombie apocalypse does happen?
I have at least 25 gallons of water saved up for any sort of apocalypse scenario. I’m a bit crazy like that. Otherwise, I plan to look the supermarket, pharmacy, and dollar store right near my house; probably in that order.
