We heard a really fine concert version of Salome at the BSO last Saturday. Soprano Gun-Brit Barkmin not only sang superbly but looked the part and fully embodied the role- not easy given the way over the top libretto based on the Oscar Wilde play. Equally good in the smaller, but crucial role of Jochanaan ( John the Baptist) was Evgeny Nikitin. The orchestra was in fine form under their new music director, Andris Nelsons. A memorable evening.
