Torchship Audiobook Up
The long-awaited audiobook version of Torchship is up at Audible. I think the narrator has done a lovely job of capturing the personalities.

Starmap
Ships in the Torchship setting travel from star to star via gates, so the pattern of gate connections matters more than the physical positions of the stars relative to each other.

The Atomic Rockets website is a wonderful reference for anyone wanting to write about space travel. I’ve used it to check my derivations and look up details on hardware. Definitely worth supporting.
The webmaster read Torchship. He’s granted it the official Atomic Rockets Seal of Approval and reviewed it on his site.

The Freighter Fives Full
Fives Full is an analog freighter, carrying cargo between the tightly controlled Fusion of Inhabited Worlds and the Disconnected Worlds outside the Fusion’s influence.
This ship is about as simple as a torchship can be. Its cargo is carried in one hold. The entire ship is balanced on its torch, with the reaction mass tanks at the bottom of the ship.

Our first book will be Torchship by Karl K. Gallagher.
A captain who’ll take any job if there’s enough money in it.
A pilot with an agenda of her own.
And a mechanic with an eye on the pilot.
The crew of the Fives Full are just trying to make enough money to keep themselves in the black while avoiding the attention of a government so paranoid it’s repealed Moore’s Law.
They’re not looking for adventure in the stars . . . but they’re not going to back down just because something got in their way.
