A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Dan Eldrige was raised in a military family and lived in California, Wyoming, Nebraska and Texas before moving to Western Pennsylvania. During his junior year at the University of Pittsburgh, where he studied journalism, Dan circumnavigated the world as a student aboard the SS Universe Explorer, a 617-foot-long floating campus that visited ten countries on four continents in 100 days.

After graduation, Dan moved back to Northern California before returning to Pittsburgh and launching Young Pioneers, a magazine about independent travel culture that was nominated for an Independent Press Award by Utne Reader. Tony Dan Eldridge,

Thanks for the add. I hope you have a great week.

From your new, totally unrelated friend,

Tony Eldridge.

Carrie Ann Moon Pittsburgh is a great read for Pittsburgh visitors and locals alike. The guide includes everything from day planning ideas for rainy days and family visits to reviews of businesses, retailers, and restaurants that aren't even known by most locals. Moon Pittsburgh truly shows how great it can be to live, work, and play in the city.

While Pittsburgh can be intimidating at first since many of the best hangouts, eats, and shops are a little off the beaten path, this book makes living or moving to the city a breeze. The author, Dan Eldridge, has done a phenomenal job in showcasing the best and most interesting things to do in the city.

And for those who think they know anything and everything about the city, I think they'll even find some surprises and new favorites in Dan's book.

Oh, and also, Moon Pittsburgh makes a great Christmas gift if you know a student in the Pittsburgh area (especially one that needs to get off of campus a little more), for friends and family living in the city, and even for those you know who have since moved on (Dan's book is sure to remind them of some fond memories of their time in Pittsburgh). I bought several copies this year for some on my Christmas list, and it's been a huge hit with those I've already given the book to.

Thanks and cheers to Dan for writing the best Pittsburgh guidebook around yet. This really is the first of anything I've read on the city that is truly upbeat, inspiring, and really does a fantastic job at portraying how Pittsburgh really is - and not just how it was. I just can't say enough about this guide.

PS - I also happen to know that Dan writes for Lonely Planet as well, so if you're planning a trip make sure to pick up one of his other titles - Southeast Asia on a Shoestring is now available for pre-order, and Dan covered the Thailand chapter I believe.
