The Last Detective by Peter Lovesey

Four Stars

I enjoyed listening to the Audible version of Peter Lovesey’s The Last Detective. I deduced the solution to this first Peter Diamond mystery before the end, but the narrative brought to mind some of my favorite who-dun-it authors and television programs. It provided an engaging listen while completing a project, which fulfilled my purpose at the moment.

Caroline: Little House, Revisited by Sarah Miller

Five Stars

As a life-long fan of the Little House series, I enjoyed listening to the Audible version of this fictional account written from Caroline Ingalls’ point of view. This novel begins at the end of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House in the Big Woods, spans the Little House on the Prairie time period, and ends with the Ingalls family heading toward their Plum Creek homestead. Readers of the original series will note similarities in dialogue and accounts. But, there are new details woven in from other sources, including the recent Pioneer Girl publication, as well as the author’s own conjecture. I highly recommend reading or listening to this book if you are an admirer of this American family.

Undaunted Courage by Stephen E. Ambrose

Four Stars I started reading this tome on my Kindle, but I didn’t finish before my book club discussion. So, I switched to Audible version, which allowed me to listen while accomplishing other tasks. I’m giving the book four stars because about the Lewis and Clark Expedition is expansive. I learned more about the conditions… Continue reading Undaunted Courage by Stephen E. Ambrose

What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon

Four Stars I enjoyed learning more about the conflict in Ireland in 1921, and I loved the chapter inscriptions from W. B. Yeats that connected the chapter themes. The engaging writing style kept me interested. The plot premise is unlikely, and yet Amy Harmon makes it believable the way we long to live within a… Continue reading What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon
