The Myth of Rantu Island

Jack Cannon is coming a long way as book 2 is in round 3 of editing and book 3 is almost completed (draft 1). Just an incredibly fun series to work on. I do have high hopes for the detective crew and perhaps as the books continue to roll out, a more visual medium will emerge where the kids will come to life on a bigger screen.

For now, enjoy the ride as books 3 and 4 are being worked on, storyboarding for book 5 is underway and book 2 will soon be released!

Enjoy the adventures! I know I am!!!

Jack Cannon Book 2 Title Release

If you enjoy the classic film Goonies, you are going to love Book 2 in The Adventures of Jack Cannon: Kid Detective series. The title: The Myth of Rantu Island.

The adventure takes us into Halloween and kicks off right where book 1 left off. When creating the series, there were distinctive character arcs that specifically run through each book and build as the series progresses. Book 2 really dives into these dramatic character challenges. On the adventure side, mysteries are afoot in this spooky ghostly tale as the young detectives are faced with both physical and mystical challenges in this fast-paced exciting story.

Enjoy the adventure! Book 2 is currently in editing and due out this winter!

Teachers' Special

My goal is to get a Jack Cannon: Kid Detective book into as many schools as possible over the next two years. I've sent free copies to schools covering 8 states already. With the book I supply a personalized letter and some Jack Cannon sticker swag.

I am pro-reading for kids in schools and having a book series with tremendous positive messaging is a good thing. I'm rolling this out slowly over social media as to not get too many requests too quickly (I am only human). But if you are a teacher with reading levels between 5th-10th grade and want to put a request in, just reach out. I'll send to your school the book with the extra bit of fun (make sure to include yourself in c/o). Hopefully, in some way, this aids in promoting reading at your school and gets the children involved in a very exciting book series.

Reach out to me if interested, otherwise, happy reading and creating as always!!!

The Adventures of Jack Cannon: Kid Detective series Content

For me, this series is really special. I wrote it for my kids who wanted to be able to read a books that were vibrant and engaging. Personally, I wanted to write a book series for kids that is a departure from the intensity of today's world while still capturing the innocence and challenges of growing up. I believe this is achieved with positive messages scattered throughout the series. Acceptance, anti-bullying and positive engagements are core values and themes that will remain continous throughout each and every Jack Cannon book.

As the series grows, the adventures will grow with them as will the complexities of adolescence.

I look forward to sharing this series from book 1, The Bike Thief, and beyond!!!

Look for book 2 later this year (currently in editing).

Who is Jack Cannon?

Jackson "Jack" Paul Cannon is a 12-year-old boy with the keen mind of a detective. His first objective is to navigate the difficulties of middle school along with his best friend, Teddy (or Turlte as Jack calls him). They are misfits at school, seen as strange alien beings. The best friends live next door to one another and have been as close as brothers all their lives.
Jack and his family are coming out of a difficult stretch. Jack's mother passed on a few years ago, something the family is trying to overcome. Grandpa Telly lives with the family and moved in while Jack's mother was sick. It helped Jack's father, Harrison, out tremendously in dealing with the day-to-day battles of life.
In his home, Jack always looks after his little sister, Stacey. She is sharp as a tack, just like her father. The two have minds built for science, although their father currently struggles as an assistant manager at the local bank. But Stacey has gifts, and such, goes to a special school for her abilities. While she has the smarts, she sometimes lacks social skills. That is where Jack comes in, looking after his little sister despite her insisting she needs little help.
Jack is a born leader but not very athletic. He seeks to help those who cannot help themselves and never turns his back on anyone. He can solve any case put before him and thrives in the world of mystery. Jack never seeks the spotlight and up until now, had never been smitten by a girl. But that all changed when Veronica Shipley, a native of London, England, moved in across the street from him. She is a detective of equal caliber to Jack.
It is these four interesting individuals, Jack (the leader, the detective, the protector), Teddy (the wannabe magician, funny a lighthearted), Veronica (a brilliant detective mind, a vivacious reader) and Stacey (the tiny scientist with a billion facts stored in her mind) who form the core four and lead us into adventure after adventure...some even out of this world!

How was Jack Cannon born?

This detective series was a product of my oldest daughter, Phoenix, and her love of various hobbies/activities. The main characters created were fashioned after her, taking small pieces of her personality and spreading them amongst the 4 main characters.

I always loved the movie Goonies and had a special place for misfit groups of kids who can come together and do special things. The Adventures of Jack Cannon: Kid Detective definitely is my take on that genre. As I storyboard book 5 and am in the midst of editing book 2 and writing books 3 and 4, I can say with confidence that I'm tremendously excited to have made this 6+ year commitment to this series. I will continue to do so and the plan is to have 4 books released by the end of 2020, 2 this year and 2 next.

I will say this to many of the readers interested in stepping into this series: you will not know where it is heading but I invite you to open your hearts and minds to this group of loveable middle schoolers and the exciting adventures they are about to embark on!
