Portland, Oregon, is the perfect fit for someone like Meg Reed. It's a city with a small town feel, where she can crash on the couch of her best friend Jill, now that she's graduated from journalism school. . .
But a girl needs a job, so Meg bluffs her way into writing for Northwest Extreme magazine, passing herself off to editor-in-chief Greg Dixon as an outdoor adventure enthusiast. Never mind that Meg's idea of sport is climbing onto the couch without spilling her latte. So when she finds herself clawing to the top of Angel's Rest--a two-thousand-foot peak--to cover the latest challenge in a reality TV adventure show, she can't imagine feeling more terrified. Until she witnesses a body plummet off the side of the cliff. Now Meg has a murder to investigate. And if the climbing doesn't kill her, a murderer just might. . .
Includes Adventure Guides!
Meg is just out of journalism school and needs a job. Fate has a hand in getting her a gig at Northwest Extreme. The problem is the most extreme Meg gets is off the couch for a latte. She covers up her inexpereince and gets the job. On her first assignment there is what looks like an accident but the circumstances are sucpicious. Meg does what she can to get to the bottom of what she thinks is a homicide. The more she finds the more dangerous it gets. Will she find the truth in time?
In an Oyster Shell – Kate Dyer-Seeley is an incredible author, this read was entertaining with great setting and eccletic characters.
The Pearls – The concept was really cute and well executed. Young journalist Meg needs a job and finds it in the most unlikely of places. This book had really great humor while still having a feel of wisdom and when appropriate gravity. The author did really well with navigating emotions in the story.
The setting was fantastic. In that I live in the northwest myself and in the area that the story is set in Seely nailed it. We live in a pretty weird place and she captured that perfectly.
The characters where just phenomenal. I loved Gam she was a fun character, a Reiki healer was a driving force in the story. There was Matt who may or may not have a crush on Meg who was always there when she needed him. I really liked the Aussie Character Dave. There are a few more but I think you get the picture that the characters make this a fun and necessary read.
The Sand – The book was really well-written though some things did not keep my interest which are not worth mentioning. Just personal taste.
4 Pearls!

Angelica had always suspected there was something deeply disturbing about her family, but the truth was more than she bargained for. After a devastating family secret derails every aspect of her life she is caught up in a whirlwind of bad decisions and wrong turns. Her journey of self discovery carries her backward as she once again learns to believe in love and the power of redemption. An intensely charged story about family secrets, love, and lust by debut novelist Linda K. Sienkiewicz.
“With tenderness, but without blinking, Sienkiewicz turns her eye on the predator-prey savannah of the young and still somehow hopeful.” ~ Jacquelyn Mitchard, author of the New York Times #1 Bestseller Deep End of the Ocean
“Sienkiewicz’s powerful and richly detailed debut novel is at once a love story, a cautionary tale, and an inspirational journey. In the Context of Love should be required reading for all wayward teenage girls—and their mothers, too.” ~ Bonnie Jo Campbell, author of the National Book Award Finalist American Salvage, and the National Bestseller, Once Upon a River
“Absorbing, heartbreaking, compulsively-readable and insightful, In the Context of Love casts a hypnotic spell. This is story-telling at its best.” ~ Lewis Robinson, author of the critically acclaimed Officer Friendly: and Other Stories, and Water Dogs
“Takes you on a wild roller coaster ride through love’s lowest lows and highest highs, from dark acts of sexual violence to kisses that taste like freedom. In her boldly compelling narrative, Sienkiewicz captures her heroine’s harrowing journey with both compassion and passion…a wise, vivid and vital new voice in fiction.” ~ Elizabeth Searle, author of the Boston Globe Bestseller A Four-Sided Bed
“Sienkiewicz has written a love letter to the wonder and imperfection of everyday life.” ~ Marcy Dermansky, author of the critically acclaimed Twins, and Bad Marie
The story starts out with first love that starts great and is lost. After it is lost, a dark family secret comes to the surface. Angelica is left reeling without the support of who she think’s is her first love. The story follow’s her life as she deals with the grief and coping of betrayal that is generations old. A story that’s told to her first love. Will she survive the aftermath?
In An Oyster Shell – A provocative rhythmic prose that I would recommend to any women’s fiction fan.
The Pearls – When the book first started I was a little put-off from the style. It’s written has one big prose to the main character Angelica’s first love Joe Vedas. I didn’t think I liked it at first but by the end of the book it really worked. I read a lot of books and I have never seen anything like this. Kudos to the author.
The plot was tantalizing and so full of depth. There was one main plot point but many other sub-plots that were seemingly effortlessly weaved together. The characters helped this along as well. There were a lot of characters in that the book spans a long period of time. It was not overwhelming in the least.
The story was just beautiful. When I got to the end of it. I was so excited at the poetic symbolism of the title in context of the story. It was beautiful and left me squealing with excitement. Prose like this doesn’t happen every day. I highly recommend it.
The Sand – I wasn’t sure how I liked the POV directed at a character but in the end, it really worked.

Perfection. Beauty. Pain. For Indigo Stevens there’s no such thing as weakness or privacy at the famed New York School of Ballet where every movement is scrutinized and judged. Indigo hopes she’ll be chosen for the company, but her ballet teachers aren’t talking and their silence is confusing.
When Indigo is singled out for a coveted solo she feels her dreams are finally within reach, until she discovers she’s dancing with Felipe Gonzalez, the school’s smolderingly hot rising star. In the days that follow, Indigo questions everything she thought was true and finds herself making surprising choices, including the decision to take control of her own future. Will she create the life she wants or lose everything?
Indigo has made it into the elite ballet institution New York Ballet school. She finds that though she was the best where she was from dance competition is fierce in Manhattan. She becomes obsessed to be the best of her class. She is paired with the newest dance student Felipe. What could go wrong? Her obsession may costs her more than she is willing to pay.
In An Oyster Shell – A simple YA that will make dance enthusiasts happy.
The Pearls – The premise was nice. I don’t know a lot about dancing but I do love learning more about it. This book was very informative to the ballet world. It was accurate with the technical terms and had a nice glossary to explain things. It also set up a nice feel for the competitive scene you would imagine dance would invoke.
I liked the variety of characters and how the main character Indigo grows to find who are who true friends and who are not. I especially liked how Indigo made the most unlikely of friends, especially in the end.
I’m a sucker for a Manhattan setting. I loved all of the landmarks the author incorporated into her story.
The Sand – The plot was a little on the flat side. The story could use a little more pizazz.

Friday Coffee & Bookish Speaks – Reading Time Management
I’m back to the motherland of coffee. I am drinking fresh roasted coffee with heavy cream. Mmm… it’s good to be back in the Northwest.
What are you drinking?
As I have talked about in recent posts, I am now a professional reviewer. On top of the reviews I do for Writing Pearls I am doing four extra for InD’Tale magazine. I was trying to average 12 book reviews for the site making it sixteen for the month and I find I am reading all the time! Even with all that I am reading I still can’t keep up.
I am in serious need of time management over my reading. The first step to achieving this for me would be stop committing to so much. With blog tours, ARC’s and author requests I filled up my months not taking into consideration the workload for the magazine. When you do reviews for someone else they are proprietary to that organization aka, no double posting.
So I find myself at a loss. My TBR is growing bigger and my allotted reading time is growing smaller. I have no solution except to start turning down requests.
What would you do in my situation?

For three years they’ve pretended there’s nothing between them anymore. Jazz is finally ready to move on with the rest of her life. She’s looking forward to the end of college and fulfilling her dream of travelling the world. She’s determined that experiences and relationships will be fun, casual and easy. After all, she learned the hard way that men just don’t stick around anyway. But when her best friend gets herself into a relationship with a celebrity, Jazz has to do the one thing she never thought she’d do, call Joey and ask for help.
Repeatedly thrown together, Jazz tries everything she can to protect her heart and not fall back in love with Joey. But when Joey finally admits that Jazz is the one he’s always wanted, all bets are off.

EXCERPT:
The Summer I turned 18
“And you won’t fall in love with any of them and want to get married?”
“Nope.” I shrugged. “That would impede my career plans.”
Joey snorted, then wheezed. “Right.”
I wanted to shove the dishtowel he was holding down his damn throat.
“Right, what?” I snapped.
“Right, I believe you,” he added with barely concealed sarcasm. His eyebrows raised.
“It’s true. I don’t see what the big emotional deal is with sex anyway.”
“Because you’ve had so much of it?”
I glanced away. That was way more information than he needed.
“So the almost eighteen year old virgin is going to try and tell me she understands what sex without emotion is like?”
“Not for much longer,” I said with a haughty tone, irritated he just assumed I was a virgin, and clasped my hands in front of me on the table. “I plan on getting rid of that status as soon as possible.”
Joey yanked his chair back out and sat down opposite me, his glare intense, the blue of his eyes darkened to grey.
I pulled back at his abrupt move and his hand reached out and snared mine, pinning it to the table. “What?” I managed after a few beats of uncomfortable silence where my hand was burned alive.
Conflicting thoughts seemed to flit over his face for what seemed like long minutes instead of the few seconds it probably was. Then he let out a long breath.
“You’re playing a very dangerous game, putting so little importance on sex.”
I scowled. “What does that even mean?”
“It means …” He swallowed. “You should respect yourself enough not to give it away to just anybody.”
My face throbbed with heat as my temper rose. “I respect myself just fine. Big brother,” I hissed.
“Good,” he growled. “Because if you don’t, nobody else will.”
I yanked my hand from his. “I don’t understand you. So you’re allowed to have meaningless sex, but I’m not? Again with your double standards, Joseph. It’s unbecoming, you should watch that.”
He shrugged. “You said it. You’re like a little sister to me. I care that you don’t get hurt. And for God’s sake don’t be roping Keri Ann into your stupid quest. I’m just warning you to be careful.”
“Of what exactly?” I said through my clenched teeth. Because seriously, I was completely angry and humiliated by this stupid argument.
“You don’t even know yourself, do you?” He laughed, his strong jaw tilting back to reveal his tanned throat. “You, Jazzy Bear,” he rested his blue eyes back on me, “will fall madly in love with the first boy you sleep with.”
“I will not. And for the love of cheese grits, please don’t call me Jazzy Bear again.”
“You will. It’s written all over you. And,” he sobered as he looked at me unflinchingly, “he will break your heart. I’m sorry. In advance.”

In an Oyster Shell – A quality read that you come to expect from Ashley Farley.
The Pearls – I was really excited to read this book after reading Merry Mary this past Christmas. I loved how the main character Scottie stayed consistent with what was established in the novella. I like the premise of taking elements of the novella and turning it into a novel. I thought the author wrapped up things from the novella making for a great execution in this novel.
I really liked the character’s in this book. They were well developed. There were good inter-personal relationships. I liked that the pov was both from Scottie and Guy’s perspective. It brought depth to the story.
I enjoyed the plot line of the story. It was unexpected when at first it looked like it be a cliche’ political scandal, but it ended up being something more unique than that.
The Sand – The story had a little to0 much inner dialogue from Scottie.

After all, she was voted girl most likely to die a virgin in high school.
Amy would never figure on getting that help from Mark Reilly…Wesley’s doctor! He’s a non-committer, too-cute-for-his-own-good bachelor, and completely the guy Amy begins falling for. It’s a race against time to see who wakes up first—Amy or her husband.

She seeks the advice of Dr. Mark Reilly who shows her what’s she’s been missing all along. What will she do when her husband wakes up?
In an Oyster Shell – This was an astounding read that was so full of twists just when you thought they were done they just kept coming.
The Pearls –The premise of this book was unique to me. Trying to save you marriage to a man in a coma who was trying to leave you? It’s unbelievable until you read the story and you understand where the characters were coming from.
The point of view was crystal clear from the viewpoint of Amy. The author had a great hold of her character’s inner and out voice. There was humor in it along with other appropriate havoc reaped from other emotions. This story had me shaking my fists, sighing out loud, and almost cheering. Which I couldn’t do because I finished this at 2 am. It was just too good to put down.
The characters were amazing and despicable respectively. There was a romantic square. Yes, square, not triangle! Which had an interesting array of possible love interests, there were also supporting characters who helped move Amy in the right direction
The Sand – The main character could be so infuriating sometimes with her rose colored glasses, I wanted to throw the book. It was a little beyond believable even for fiction.
