Hello All,

Although I don't generally discuss my sales/download figures openly, for my recent free promotion on Smashwords (and associated price matches in Amazon) I can say that compared to another free promotion last October (over a comparable period of time) I noticed the following increases in downloads:

Smashwords - An increase of 75% (*1.75)
Amazon.com - An increase of 229% (*3.29)
Amazon.co.uk - An increase of  140% (*2.4)
Amazon.ca & .com.au - Unknown but massively more, perhaps @0

Obviously I am very excited about this and would attribute this to the following (in order of perceived importance):

1) A new cover - this is something everybody bangs on about, but it clearly does matter. My new cover (eBook & Paperback front cover) cost me £40 ($66) from The Cover Collection. So do consider investing a small fee in this service.

2) A few new 5 star reviews - my average score is now 4.5/5 on Amazon and 5/5 on Smashreads.

3) An improvement in my social media skills, i.e. increased Facebook followers, membership of reader/author/retweet FB groups, automated timed tweeting through Hootsuite etc.

4) A stronger presence on forums such as Goodreads.

Once again, I would like to thank all those who contributed to these great figures and if anybody would like to share with me how you discovered The Star Agency and what persuaded you to download it, it would be great if you could either comment on this article or post a comment on my Facebook Page.

And as always, you can download my book for a bargain $0.99 from Amazon & Smashwords.

Hello all,
Last year, when I released my eBook, THE STAR AGENCY, onto the world, it had been my intention to spend as little actual money as possible on promotion and cover art, instead being adamant that I could 'do it all myself'. To that end, I produced my own cover and artwork, which, at the time, I was very pleased with. It has however become clear to me over the last few months that my cover, although decent enough, is in no way a match for the professionally produced covers out there and therefore does not sell the book as well as it perhaps could. Although I am a respectable artist in my own right, those skills do not, unfortunately, transfer too well to digital art. I have therefore engaged the services of a professional to do the job for me to give it just that little extra boost. And I am very pleased with the results.

This stunning piece of work you see below was produced for me by Debbie at 'The Cover Collection' http://www.thecovercollection.com/, whom I cannot praise highly enough. Not only did she produce the art for a fraction of the price of bespoke art work, she was also professional and helpful in the extreme. From placing the initial order - through the various discussions as the layout, font & colour - to producing the final work, took only 24 hours. Not only that, but it was very cheap as well - just £30 (approx. $50 US).
The process is really simple. You browse to the website, pick the 'off-the-shelf' cover art you want from a varied and high quality selection, and place your order including the details of what text you require on screen. She will then send you a selection of proofs to pick from, all of which were very good. You can then either pick them as they stand or ask for changes to be made, such as colorization, text layout, font changes etc. Then once you have agreed the final arrangement, the art will be sent to you. I can't thank Debbie at the cover collection enough. And I hope you will agree that she has done a fantastic job.
Although The Cover Collection are UK based, they will work with you whatever your country. So if you are looking for high quality, off-the-shelf cover art, they come highly recommended by me.
