171 - I really mustn't do that
It was Ailadas at my shoulder, but it was Gannara who helped me up to my feet. Now that 2nd Amitzas was gone to his own tent, the hurt washed over me hard and I nearly pulled Gannara down on top of me, trying to stand.I started shaking, shaking hard. My armour rattled and I could hardly keep my feet, even with Gannara's help. I didn't care if they heard me. "I…mmm…d.d.d.one… w…w…ww --.""Shh.

170 - One day I will kill you
I tried to duck but my sight flashed red and black at his first slap. My head whipped to the one side as he slapped me. Then he slapped me backhand, and I fell, my cheeks on fire. I scrambled to get up but he put his boot into my side and knocked me into the snow. He kicked me, unrestrained it seemed, because of the armour. It was a whirl of snow and pain and dizziness as his feet thudded

169 - Why did I do that?
With the snow, Joras often could not fight his way out to the villages. He managed once more before the snow grew so deep the horses could not manage, even if he stamped a trail out for them. And 2nd Amitzas wanted no trails to us, even from a plowed road. The high road was plowed with oxen, and this year they were in short supply, since the war had depleted the horse stocks, people turned

168 - Seige in the Snow
The slingers began lobbing snowballs from so far away I was amazed. Put a stone in that and they'd be deadly. The pine boughs that Gannara had gotten us, as shields, gave us a fair amount of cover but we couldn't touch those slingers, no one had an arm strong enough and no one on our side had slings. They were using smaller pieces of bark as bucklers. Two snowballs got through our side

167 - Birthday War Game
Next morning, when Binshala was admitted to help Gannara get me ready for the day, the light pouring in the door was a blinding white. It was as if it were the White Hall in the Marble Palace on a sunny day, but along with a blast of frigid air instead of cool, stone scented. "Good Morning, Spark of the Sun's Ray," she said and set my brushes down next to the washbasin. Gannara got my

New Blog up and Under Construction
The Kyrus Chapters have all been moved to their own site 'Kyrus'. I will update that one much more occasionally than Eclipse Court which is still my primary focus.I have left the original chapters scattered in EC because I didn't want to lose the thoughtful commentary. The link is included in my link list... (I so want to make an Art Linklister pun here...) So have a look and let me know if you

166 - What Do I Believe?
I managed to keep my mind stone while Gannara got my soaked clothing off and got me into a warmed bed. The brazier was so welcome. He crawled into the bed next to me and tucked the feather quilt tight and rolled over to face me. I rolled over on my back, so he wouldn't face the wall of it. "I pushed for Ilesias to have a birthday celebration." "You did? Wonderful! When?" "I
