Everyday Miracles #4 – Craig Adams
My guest blogger today is Craig Adams. This message was originally posted here.
One of my new friends since moving to Olympia is a notorious law-breaker who has been in national news for doing the right thing. He and some others have a ministry in which they feed the homeless folks from a tent erected in a public parking lot after business hours downtown. He’s been in the news because the city has fined him and threatened to jail him for feeding hungry people.
This morning he posted that he’d jammed up his knees cutting wood, and would like prayer. So when Todd came by to go out to breakfast this morning I asked if he knew where our friend lived. Long story short, a phone call and a short while later he was sitting in Solomon’s Reef downtown with us at the breakfast table.
As we talked, he shared some of his misadventures with the local government, as well as the impact his ministry is having in the lives of their street family.
Todd shared some of the cool things God did on his recent mission to Brazil, and soon, wives were calling our cell phones and messaging us, and it was time to go.
I asked our friend if his knees were still hurting, and he replied that they were, and that it was a chronic problem.
“Well, then, why don’t we get you healed before you go?”
“Alright, man!”
“OK,” I told him, “Don’t do anything. Don’t try to receive, don’t think about God, or your knees… don’t think about anything.”
“OK”
Emptying my own mind of everything but what needed to happen, and not trying to *make* it happen by anything other than what was said, I said,
“In the name of Jesus I command pain to go.
I command these knees to conform to pattern that was intended for them in the beginning.
There! Done! How do they feel? The pain is gone, isn’t it?”
“They feel much better.” he said.
“Is the pain gone?”
“Most of it is.”
“OK… Papa doesn’t do things halfway…one more time, let’s go.’
I put my hand on his shoulder again and said,
“Pain be gone in Jesus name. Joints, bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, I command you to be whole.”
All gone now?”
“Yep, ” he replied sliding out of the booth and testing his new knees, “Just a little stiffness in the muscles from things stretching.”
I used to think whether someone got healed had to do with what I did or said when I prayed for them, and often, they were not healed.
But once you realize that you really aren’t doing anything but speaking what Papa tells you to (often with the same voice in your mind that you think with) and do and say what He shows you, Results are much different.
Everyday miracles are mostly just an expression of knowing who He has made you, not doing performing as the old, dead man did, and letting the presence of God that is already in you out.
Some people think miracles like this are extraordinary, but they are really just normal, everyday stuff when you realize the old man really is dead, and the life in you now is a new man, living in Christ by the faith of the Son of God.

Practicing the Art of Healing
I love watching Eric Johnson play guitar. His screaming solos, crazy barre chords and lighting-fast fretting simply amaze me. Sometimes I wonder how a person learns to play guitar so well.
When I watch a big league slugger drive a 96 mile-an-hour fastball over the wall for a home run, and when they hit home runs repeatedly, like they do in the All Star Game’s home run derby, I wonder how these guys learn to hit a ball so well.
Jack Nicklaus was asked once how he became such a consistent golfer. He said, “Excellence in golfing is a matter of learning how to do a few things extremely well, and learning how to do them well consistently.”
It’s easy to imagine that there must only be a handful of people who are born with these extraordinary “gifts”, but the fact is, if you or I put in the time it takes to learn one of these skills, we will eventually master it. Hitting a fastball out of the park, playing guitar like a master, or sinking a fifty foot putt are really nothing more than a matter of learning how to do a couple of things extremely well and learning to do them well consistently. Any individual can excel in any field they choose. The key to success is practice, practice, practice, and the same principle applies to healing.
There are a lot of misunderstandings about how divine healing works. I can’t straighten them all out all out in this message, but two of the main points people get wrong with regard to healing are the idea that God is the one who decides who gets healed and when, and the idea that only a few gifted people can operate in healing.
God does not decide (except in a few rare cases) who gets healed, and when they will be healed. If you think He does, you might go on a field trip with a person who operates successfully in healing. When you see 90% of the people they lay hands on receive healing, it should cause you to re-evaluate how healing works. You might even switch from believing that God chooses who gets healed to the equally wrong belief that some people have a special gift for healing.
Here’s the truth about how healing works: Jesus gave every believer all the power and authority they need to heal anyone they choose to heal (see Matthew 10:5-8.) Jesus gave us authority over every type of sickness and disease. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the believer is the source of power that makes healing happen. We can’t accuse God of making things unfair when it comes to healing. He’s already given us everything we need. The trick is not figuring out what we must do to get God to heal someone. When someone is not healed, it isn’t because God is holding back their healing. Healing comes when we learn how to use the authority and release the power He’s already given us.
And how do we learn to release the power to heal?
By practicing.
Lately, I’ve been approached by friends who have become disappointed with God or with themselves because they’ve tried to get someone healed and nothing happened. They’ve come to me and asked, “What am I doing wrong?”
Disappointment with God always comes from a wrong understanding of who He is and how He operates. I’m going to be brutally honest about this, and if what I say offends you, I’m sorry.
If you only pray for the sick to be healed occasionally, you’re not going to see them healed consistently. Most of the time, you’re only going to experience frustration and it’s likely that frustration will turn into anger toward God. Disappointment over failed attempts to heal people when you’re only doing it once in a while is a bit like picking up a guitar a couple of times a year and wondering why you can’t play your favorite lick, or like going up against a major league pitcher and wondering why you can’t hit their fastball.
You’ll never have success in healing as long as you’re content to do it once in a while. Healing is an art form that requires instruction, correction and lots and lots of practice. The best healers are not the ones who are the most gifted. They’re the ones who practice the most. Learning how to release healing and miracles is a process. And to be honest, most of us don’t like the process. We’d rather have God just do His thing and heal our friends so we can get on to more interesting things. But that’s not how healing works.
Jesus took the twelve out repeatedly and demonstrated miracles for them then watched as they did healing and deliverance themselves. He tutored them and fine-tuned their approach, correcting their mistakes until they became proficient. It’s no different for us today. We have the Holy Spirit as our tutor for the miraculous.
Healing, like anything else must be done over and over again until you learn how to do it well and how to do it consistently. It’s in the trial and error and in the hours of practice that we learn how to eliminate mistakes, grow our faith and learn the ways of God.
Everyone I know (without exception) who operates proficiently in the miraculous, does so because they’ve committed themselves to making it their lifestyle, and not just an occasional thing they do when a friend or relative is in a crisis. The time to learn how to operate in healing and miracles is not when you or your loved one lies sick or dying in the hospital. The best time to prepare for the kinds of emergencies we’ll all face is during times of peace.
If you need help getting started I have a lot of resources here on my website that can help you.

State Trooper’s Testimony
This testimony was submitted by a friend who wishes to remain anonymous.
I am a State Trooper. I stopped behind a vehicle one night that was pulled over alongside a road near a main highway. Traffic was quiet, and it was about 8:30 at night in the Spring, and it was completely dark. As I pulled up behind this vehicle, I noticed a man was out wiping his face with some newspaper. For some reason, I did not turn on my overhead emergency lighting. I just stopped casually to see if he need any assistance. I noticed the “vomit comet” on the side of his van on the drivers side, indicating he had thrown up out the window as he was driving. I figured he was probably drunk. I asked him if he was ok, he said he was, and he was dealing with sinus issues. I asked him for ID, having suspicion that he was intoxicated. He patted himself down and said “nope.” I have seen that “self pat down” 100 times, and I knew he was either suspended, wanted, or revoked.
Right then, another Trooper pulled up behind us. He did not see any emergency lighting and thought we were two civilians that may have gotten in an accident. It was total happenstance he was there, usually we are short handed.
Right then, the suspect took off running. Of course, being a good sport, I pursued on foot.
There wasn’t any traffic on the main highway and we were running right down the middle of it. I got him on the ground and we began to wrestle. I lost my flashlight in the struggle, and we are right in the middle of the west bound lane of traffic in complete darkness.
I am torquing on his arms trying to get him cuffed, and I looked up and noticed that there was a car coming at about a mile out. I knew I only had about 45 seconds to get him cuffed and drug out of the road or we were going to get struck at 55mph and possibly killed.
Here is where I failed. I got tunnel vision. I lost track of time. The other Trooper hadn’t made it there yet, he was much farther out at the beginning.
All of the sudden, peace came over me. It was a wonderful manifestation of His presence. I thought, “Lord, are you here to take me, is this it?”
Then, tires squealed, engine heat in the wind, dirt, and rocks hit my face, and out of control noise flooded my ears.
I reached up with my right hand like I caught a baseball and put my hand on the front bumper of that car as it stopped. The car stopped EXACTLY at my right arms reach. Not an inch past it, not an inch short of it.
The suspect was in complete shock.
I rolled him over, and cuffed him, and drug him out of the road. He went to jail for DUI, revoked DL, and others.
I measured the skid marks the next day, and sent the type/ weight of the vehicle, pavement type, weather conditions, and length of skid marks to our crash reconstructionist. He said there was no possible way that car could have stopped under its own power.
During a brief interview with the driver, he said that he didn’t even see us until the very end. He had no idea how he got stopped.
I know how…. and God is so very, very good.

I’ve Fallen and I Can’t Get Up
As I drove to work I wondered who would be healed today. God had been doing more miracles through me when I asked people if they wanted prayer. Healing wasn’t just an occasional thing anymore, but a lifestyle. We checked out the ambulance and made sure all our equipment was working then called dispatch to let them know we were ready for our first call. I wondered if it would be someone with a foot injury or maybe back pain.
Our first call was for a woman who fell while attempting to cross the busiest street in town. She didn’t make it very far. We found her laying half on the curb and half in the street in the pouring rain. We quickly put her on a backboard and got her in the ambulance where it was dry. I got her medical history and asked what happened.
“Well, I was walking down the sidewalk with my cane. I use it because I have trouble feeling the irregularities in the sidewalk. I have neuropathy in my right foot. I guess I didn’t notice a big bump, and I tripped over it. I have an appointment to see a specialist tomorrow. He’s going to do a procedure on my foot and I’ll be using a walker after that.”
“Would you mind if I prayed for your foot to be healed? Maybe you won’t need surgery.”
She smiled. “Get over here and take my hands. Let’s get this done!”
I placed my hand on her foot. “Spirits of pain I command you to leave. Nerves come back to life, in the name of Jesus. Do you feel anything different?”
“My foot doesn’t feel as swollen as it was a few minutes ago.”
“Swelling, I command you to leave. Nerves, be healed in Jesus’ name. Okay, how does it feel now?”
She reached down to recheck the swelling. “I think all the swelling is gone, but it still feels numb.”
I place my hand on her foot again. “Numbness I command you to leave in the name of Jesus. Nerves, be healed right now! Any changes yet?”
“There’s like this wave of… I don’t know… electricity going down my leg. The feeling is coming back.”
I looked in her eyes. “In case you didn’t know it, God really loves you.” I didn’t need to tell her. With tears of joy streaming down her cheeks, she softly said, “I know He does.”
Who will be healed today? The choice is ours. If we don’t lay hands on people in prayer, the answer is “nobody.”

Healing — More to Learn
On June 19th of this year, I had a dream about healing that was very instructive. In the dream, I was doing a community outreach to teach and demonstrate healing. The dream focused on my interaction with one person, who was skeptical that he could be healed. As I spoke with him about healing, and prayed for him, nothing happened and he became despondent and even more convinced that he could not be healed. The outreach was a failure…except that it made me realize I had a lot more to learn about healing.
So in the next part of the dream I went home and learned more about healing. After a while I returned to the outreach and met up with the same man. This time I had a completely different approach to the healing process. That’s where the dream ended. A few days before I had this dream I struggled terribly at work with anger toward a co-worker. As I found out a few weeks later, the anger stemmed from an emotional issue from my past that was being triggered by certain situations that I run into at work from time to time. Eventually I realized that I need to be healed in this area, so I sought out the help of a friend who took me through the emotional healing process and the wound related to that issue was healed. This week I stumbled upon a few more wounds from my past that still need healing.
This entire realm of emotional healing is something I’m just beginning to learn about. As I teach others what I’ve learned, I’m deep in the process of being healed and learning how healing works myself. Sometimes I’m only a few days ahead of the people I’m teaching. There is so much we have yet to discover about the process of healing; especially in the area of healing emotional wounds and fragmented souls. Even though I wrote a book that teaches about healing, and I’ve seen thousands of people healed, many times I feel completely unprepared when it comes to healing certain people of certain conditions. So if you ever feel like you’re unprepared for the things God has asked you to do, take heart. I’m right there with you.
A couple of years ago I had a dream where I was attending my first day of college and I had to pick the subjects I wanted to learn about. That dream made me realize that although I’ve learned a lot already, I’m just beginning the learning process. There are many things to learn about the kingdom of God that I’ve never yet considered.
Thanks for walking the road with me as we learn together. Stay tuned for more lessons from the school of the Holy Spirit.
