Q-Ship Chameleon out now!
Q-Ship Chameleon, the fourth Castle Federation novel, is out now!
It will be at a discounted price until November 4, 2016.
A heroic Captain denied command
A battered but relentless enemy
A covert operation to strike at the heart of an unstoppable foe!
Captain Kyle Roberts has commanded the carrier Avalon through the most vicious battles of the war against the Terran Commonwealth—but with Avalon in for repair, his political enemies deny him a new ship.
Unwilling to accept a desk, he takes command of a covert operation using a captured Commonwealth warship to strike at the very heart of their enemy, drawing away the reinforcements that could destroy the Alliance’s recent gains.
But the spies who planned the operation have secrets they haven’t shared. Their allies have their own agendas—and the Commonwealth has surprises of its own!

Alien Arcana is out now!
Alien Arcana, the fourth novel in my epic Starship’s Mage series, is now out!
An alien ruin
A murdered archeologist
An ancient secret—and a conspiracy that will kill to keep it!
When a scientist is murdered after finding signs of alien magic in an archeological dig, Mage Damien Montgomery, Hand of the Mage-King of Mars, is sent to investigate both the murder and the alien runes.
His investigation is interrupted when a mysterious ship attacks the ruins with weapons only available to the Martian Navy. Despite saving the dig site, Montgomery is left with more questions than answers.
His investigations reveal questions about the origin of his magic and his nation—and lead him back to the one place that should be safe: the court of the Mage-King of Mars.

A Year Full Time
Something I didn’t draw too much attention to last year for a lot of reasons was my transition from writing part-time to writing full-time. It was a careful thing, done in stages, carried out with the full support of my then-boss.
And it started September 1, 2015. As I think most people reading this blog can guess, it went well enough that most of those stages got jumped over and I was no longer even working part-time by the end of 2015.
Since September 2015, I have launched five novels (with the sixth, Alien Arcana coming out shortly), closed seven audiobook deals, been in a novella anthology (Experiments and Enchantments, which I don’t believe is available any longer), set up as a micro-press (Faolan’s Pen Publishing Inc), moved provinces from Alberta to Ontario, and generally been very, very, very busy.
It’s been a mind-boggling year in a lot of ways. It still hasn’t really sunk in that I get to write for a living.
I have plans going forward, though currently I’m going to stay very vague on release dates. If everything comes together as planned, we should have four more novels (including Alien Arcana, obviously) out this year O_o, including launching an urban fantasy thriller series that I hope you all will love!
So thank you all.
Without you, this would never have happened.
Happy reading!

New Children of Prophecy Cover
Thanks to the wonderful gentlemen at Rocking Book Covers, Children of Prophecy now has a new cover.
A new paperback edition will follow shortly, with updated interior formatting and revised for typos identified since publication.
An age in the past, the world’s two greatest Mages fought a bloody war to a draw that slew them both.
In the time since, the Kingdom of Vishni has known quiet, and the Swarm beyond the mountains has grown in strength and numbers. Now, with the Time of Prophecy at hand, dark forces move to fulfil ancient visions.
Two men, born to poverty but bearing the blood of those ancient Mages, will rise to decide the fate of both Swarm and Kingdom as the fires of this ancient conflict rise anew.

Release plans and Moving
As of this writing, The Terran Privateer has been bouncing around the #200s on Amazon.com for a week. Suffice to say, I am extremely pleased with the success of the book and am glad everyone is enjoying it!
Since the question has been asked: yes, there will be an audiobook. I’ve signed a contract, but details are still taking shape.
Since The Terran Privateer was clearly labelled as book one of the Duchy of Terra series, I’ve also been asked when the next one is coming out. Some folks would clearly like the answer to be “tomorrow” but I do have other series to work on.
I intend to have book 4 of both Starship’s Mage and Castle Federation out before I return to Duchess Bond.
You may have noticed that the schedule on the main page has undergone some changes, including the dates past Alien Arcana becoming very vague. For reasons of my wife’s health, it has become necessary for us to move and we are relocating from Alberta to Ontario near the Great Lakes. Our new city is much more temperate and doesn’t have the spectacular weather shifts of our current home, which so far has been very promising for her migraines.
This is a huge endeavor and one we’re putting together with very little time: we made the decision July 10th and we are moving August 15.
Right now, it is impossible for me to judge how long it will take me to get back up to speed after the move so I am hesitant to commit to schedules past the release for Alien Arcana (Alien Arcana is complete, but still needs editing and covers and so forth).
My current plan is that I will release Alien Arcana, Q-Ship Chameleon, and then will likely detour back to ONSET, my urban fantasy thriller project, before returning to Duchy of Terra. I want to release two ONSET books close together as I’m trying to break into a notoriously difficult genre.
Once I’m back in the swing of things, I’m aiming to have four series running: Starship’s Mage, Castle Federation, Duchy of Terra and ONSET; with each receiving a release in each six month period.
Reality may ensue, but that’s the goal. Assuming we survive the move!

The Terran Privateer is out now!
The Terran Privateer is book one of the Duchy of Terra. Get it on Amazon here.
(It will be $2.99 US until the end of July, then go up to $4.99)
Earth is conquered.
Sol is lost.
One ship is tasked to free them.
One Captain to save them all.
When an alien armada destroys the United Earth Space Force and takes control of the human homeworld, newly reinstated Captain Annette Bond must take her experimental hyperspace cruiser Tornado into exile as Terra’s only interstellar privateer.
She has inferior technology, crude maps and no concept of her enemy, but the seedy underbelly of galactic society welcomes her so long as she has prizes to sell and money to spend.
But when your only allies are pirates and slavers, things are never as they seem—and if you become all that you were sworn to destroy, what are you fighting for?

Mystery Project Unveiled: The Terran Privateer
Since completing Battle Group Avalon I’ve been working on a new project to help clear my mind a bit before returning to Starship’s Mage for book four in that series. This is the one that’s been labelled as ‘Mystery Project #1’ on this site so far (there are, for the curious, now four Mystery Projects.) and, since its now exactly one month from release, I figure it’s time to unveil the mystery!
The Terran Privateer (Book One of the Duchy of Terra) is an epic space opera in the vein of David Weber’s Dahak, with a little bit less focus on hard physics and numbers than most of my work and a bit more focus on characters, aliens, and fancy explosions. It’s targeted for release July 1, 2016 in paperback and on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.

Battle Group Avalon is out now!

Battle Group Avalon is Book 3 of the Castle Federation series
TURNING THE TIDE
The Terran Commonwealth has proved a nigh-unstoppable juggernaut in its war against the smaller Castle Federation and her allies, but an almost accidental victory by Captain Kyle Roberts of the carrier Avalon has opened a chink in its armor.
Desperate to change the course of a war they are rapidly losing; the Federation assembles a new forward fleet with orders to retake the systems that have fallen to the enemy.
Outnumbered but on the offensive at last, Kyle Roberts must take a hastily assembled battle group back to the worlds the Alliance failed to defend. There he will live or die by the skills of his soldiers and the honor of his enemies.
