Anatomy of A NYT Bestseller

According to her website, a few years ago author Lynn Viehl promised her friends that if she ever hit the New York Times mass market bestseller list that she'd share her experiences about what it took to get her there and what it's like to be there.

Now, Viehl is keeping her promise. On the website Genreality, she shares worthy and informative insights.

The first thing Viehl does is debunk a lot of the myths that circulate about the paths to that lofty achievements. The second thing she does is ta

Want an Espresso? An Espresso Book Machine, That Is

Good news for everyone, really. Print-On-Demand books might be coming to your neighborhood stores for real now, print-on-demand as in the ability to print books on the spot, when customers order them.

According to Publisher's Weekly, Lightning Source has entered into an Espresso Book Machine pilot program. The EBM device, which is made by On Demand Books, is said to work fast -- taking only 15 minutes to copy, print and bind books. Apparently, it can print 112 pages per minute, including four-col

Determined to Be Grateful

When I packed my daughter off to college last fall, there was no sadness. There was excitement and happiness for her. Whenever I thought of her, I pictured her in a beautiful, safe environment, learning lots of new wonderful things, testing her wings for the first time. I was really okay with it.

The Weary Author Blues

Of late, I've noticed quite a few writers blogging about, or on forumsasking about, crises in confidence. Maybe I'm ultra-aware of theseentries because I'll admit to a loss of confidence myself. A while ago,it was well past midnight, I was rereading a section of a manuscriptfor, oh, the one-millionth time. It suddenly struck me that it washorrible, absolutely, unforgivably, irredeemably horrendous. No amountof line editing would save this section of the book. As amatter-of-fact, I shouldn't even

Google Voice: More Fun With Doodads

I picked up my Google Voice widget today. I'll be adding it to my contacts page. Now readers and reporters can  call me. Will anyone actually do that? Who knows? Hmm. Do I even want them to?

Well, yes, I do. I enjoy talking to readers. Furthermore, It's not like I'm a star and have to worry about being deluged, now do I? It's fun to talk to readers, answer their questions, hear their opinions. This will be a fun experiment.
