Book Review: Novice Dragoneer by E.E. Knight

Title: Novice DragoneerBy: E.E. KnightGenre: FantasyPages: 512Release Date: November 5th, 2019Publisher: Ace BooksRating: ★★★★☆
Summary from Goodreads: In the first book in an exciting and charming new coming-of-age fantasy series from the author of the Age of Fire series, an impoverished girl enters into a military order of dragonriders, but her path won't be as easy or as straightforward as she expected.
Fourteen-year-old Ileth grew up in an orphanage, and thanks to her stutter was never thought to be destined for much beyond kitchen work and cleaning. But she's dreamed of serving with the dragons ever since a childhood meeting with a glittering silver dragon and its female dragoneer. For years she waits, and as soon as she is old enough to join, Ileth runs away to become a novice dragoneer at the ancient human-dragon fortress of the Serpentine.

While most of her fellow apprentices are from rich and influential families, Ileth must fight for her place in the world, even if it includes a duel with her boss at the fish-gutting table. She's then sent off to the dragon-dancers after a foolish kiss with a famously named boy and given charge of a sickly old dragon with a mysterious past. But she finds those trials were nothing when she has to take the place of a dead dragoneer and care for his imprisoned dragon in enemy lands. . . .

Review: I've always loved E.E. Knight's writing style. It has a wonderful way of building a unique world for the reader to explore. I was rooting for the main character in this story. She came from nothing, but had a dream to fly a dragon. Her persistence helped her prove herself. She had many wonderful adventures along the way. I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book.
Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

Review: For some reason I couldn't get into this series like I did with Maas' Court of Thorns and Roses series, but it was still an epic read. I'm wondering if I didn't connect with the characters as much. This book was one of the best books of 2018 on Goodreads and I can see why. Although it was a little daunting. The length was really long and it took me a while to get through. If it wasn't for the time I've invested in this series and its characters, I don't think I would have finished it.

Review: I wasn't drawn to this book as much as the last book in this series. With that being said, it was still a wonderful story with dark elements. I can see why this book won in its category for the Goodreads 2018 Book Awards. It's unique and compelling.

Series Review: Me Before You Series by Jojo Moyes

I finished the Me Before You series last month and it was a whirl wind of a series. I loved it and hated it all at the same time. Louisa is so infuriating. It was like telling the main character to stay out of the basement, but she goes down there anyway and is killed by the serial killer. She needed to jump in feet first, but she hesitated over and over and over again.

The feels that I got from these books were great. That's what you want when you read a book. You want to feel. Anger, love, joy, pain. No matter what it makes you feel, you are feeling and that is the back bone of a good story.

You need to read these books. They have a love story that continues to give and give and give. dive in, feel something.

Weekly Menu #323 And The Book Of The Week

Monday! Welcome back to this weeks menu. What a week. I think I might be intolerant to sugar and dairy on top of gluten. So, I've cut out sugars and most dairy and lost 7 lbs in the last week. Weird how that works. Its so hard though. I love me a sugary drink...

This weeks book is Symptom of a Heartbreak by Sona Charaipotra. This book sounds really cute and a fun read. I can't wait to dive in. What are you reading this week? Any suggestions for next week?

Here's the menu, enjoy!

Monday- Italian Pork Sausage and Pepper Subs

Tuesday- Chicken Schnitzel and Potatoes
Wednesday- Chicken Parmesan
Thursday- Mushroom & Spinach Ramen
Friday- Steak and Onion Rings
Saturday- Chipotle Cheddar Mac

Sunday Confessions # 15

Welcome back to my weekly confessions. Unlike last week, I wasn't distracted and remembered to post today.
The rain has set in fully. I knew it was coming, but for someone who has lived in Oregon all her life, it still surprises me on how much rain comes all at once. And its not going to stop until spring... Sigh...
Well, lets get on with it, shall we?

Book Review: The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

Title: The UnhoneymoonersBy: Christina Lauren Genre: FictionPages: 400Release Date: May 14th, 2019Publisher: Gallery BooksRating: ★★★★★
Summary from Goodreads: Olive is always unlucky: in her career, in love, in…well, everything. Her identical twin sister Ami, on the other hand, is probably the luckiest person in the world. Her meet-cute with her fiancé is something out of a romantic comedy (gag) and she’s managed to finance her entire wedding by winning a series of Internet contests (double gag). Worst of all, she’s forcing Olive to spend the day with her sworn enemy, Ethan, who just happens to be the best man.
Olive braces herself to get through 24 hours of wedding hell before she can return to her comfortable, unlucky life. But when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning from eating bad shellfish, the only people who aren’t affected are Olive and Ethan. And now there’s an all-expenses-paid honeymoon in Hawaii up for grabs.

Putting their mutual hatred aside for the sake of a free vacation, Olive and Ethan head for paradise, determined to avoid each other at all costs. But when Olive runs into her future boss, the little white lie she tells him is suddenly at risk to become a whole lot bigger. She and Ethan now have to pretend to be loving newlyweds, and her luck seems worse than ever. But the weird thing is that she doesn’t mind playing pretend. In fact, she feels kind of... lucky.

Review: Hilarious. There was so much fun in this book that I couldn't even put it down. It was like watching a RomCom on TV.
