Elon Musk Has a Plan to Get You Anywhere on Earth in An Hour

Two heads might be better than one, but what about two futuristic transportation technologies? Elon Musk seems to think so.

This morning, May 16, the tech luminary took to his favorite communication platform (Twitter) to announce plans to combine SpaceX’s BFR (Big F*cking Falcon Rocket) with The Boring Company’s underground hyperloop.

The result? A transportation system that could take you practically anywhere in the world in roughly an hour.

SpaceX COO Gwynne Shotwell recently had a conversation with TED curator Chris Anderson during which she provided an update on SpaceX’s BFR Earth-to-Earth transportation plan, which Musk unveiled in September.

According to Shotwell, the first BFR will seat about 100 passengers and will be capable of completing a dozen trips per day. A ticket from New York City to Shanghai will cost roughly $2,000, she expects.

“This is definitely going to happen,” she told Anderson, noting that it should be ready in about 10 years in “Gwynne time” (“I’m sure Elon will want us to go faster”).

After TED Talks tweeted a quote from Shotwell’s conversation, Musk replied with his own bit of news: The Boring Company’s underground hyperloop would play a role in quickly getting people to the BFR launch ports.

Email Marketing : The Entrepreneurs Guide To Creating A Thriving Email Marketing Business

The online marketplace is ever changing. A marketing tactic can be effective today and obsolete tomorrow. Email, however, keeps outperforming all the other marketing channels. Why is email so powerful? What makes it stay in power? It is easy to overlook email as a marketing channel. You may not find it trendy and exciting like Facebook. But it has key advantages over other channels. Take a look at the demographics of popular social media platforms. Women use Pinterest the most while Snapchat is for the younger generation. On the other hand, almost everyone has an email address. People willingly submit their email addresses and they obviously expect to receive emails from you. The readiness of your subscribers naturally increases your conversion rates. If Facebook goes down, you lose your entire following. Email marketing allows you to have your own subscribers. Use social media to boost your email list. Automated marketing technology keeps on improving steadily and that is why email marketing is so effective. Being able to customize a customer’s experience and send targeted content to consumers drives more conversions and sales for businesses. Email personalization has greatly contributed to a rise in open and click-through rates. Marketing technology has made the otherwise tedious task of personalizing emails very simple.

Pornhub starts accepting cryptocurrency

Pornhub has started accepting cryptocurrency as a payment option, the company announced today. The site now accepts Verge cryptocurrency (no relation to The Verge), a rebranded version of Dogecoindark, which split off from the original meme coin, Dogecoin, in 2014. Now, users can pay for any Pornhub features, including a Premium subscription, using Verge cryptocurrency. Pornhub’s adult sister sites, Brazzers and Nutaku, also accept Verge cryptocurrency now.

Verge cryptocurrency is anonymity-focused, which is why Pornhub executives say they chose it over other potential partners. It should be noted that anyone can view Verge cryptocurrency transactions through its public ledger, but it uses the anonymity tool Tor and an anonymous network layer I2P to hide specific transactions’ IP addresses and locations. Since public ledgers often have their downfalls in protecting anonymity, users also choose to hide on Verge cryptocurrency’s private ledger.

Corey Price, VP at Pornhub, tells The Verge that cryptocurrency offers “convenience and security.” It’s a dubious statement, considering most digital coins have high transaction fees and volatile prices that can be a hassle for users. Companies like Valve and Stripe have ended their cryptocurrency support for those very reasons. Stripe has even gone as far as adding cryptocurrency to its prohibited businesses list.

Verge cryptocurrency has been pretty volatile, like other popular digital coins. Last December, when most digital currencies were on the rise, Verge cryptocurrency hit nearly $0.22 per coin but has since dropped back down. On the heels of this announcement today, it rose to about 10 cents per coin, which is still low compared to more popular digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

“We’ve been looking at crypto for quite some time,” says Price, adding that Pornhub’s partner sites did accept limited cryptocurrencies back when Bitcoin had newly emerged as a digital currency. Still, Pornhub wasn’t one of the sites to include cryptocurrency as a payment method back then, likely because Bitcoin’s prices were still low.

‘Infinity War’ Is Selling Faster Than The Last 7 Marvel Movies Combined

“Avengers: Infinity War” is gearing up to be the highest-grossing Marvel movie in history.

According to ticket service Fandago, “Infinity War” is selling over double the number of tickets that “Black Panther” had sold at this point before its release. “Black Panther” is currently the highest-grossing Marvel movie ever and the third highest-grossing film domestically of all time, not adjusting for inflation.

“Moviegoers are rushing to guarantee their seats in advance for what is sure to be one of the most talked-about movies of the decade,” Fandango managing editor Erik Davis told Variety.

However, it’s not just outdoing “Black Panther.” The third Avengers film is selling faster than the last seven Marvel movies combined. That includes some box-office juggernauts like “Thor: Ragnarok,” “Captain America: Civil War” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

“Infinity War” is estimated to bring in $150 million to $200 million in its opening weekend. This movie is going to break records; it’s simply a question of how many.

“Avengers: Infinity War” comes out April 27.

Mastering Etsy: The Entrepreneurs Guide To Creating A Thriving Etsy Business

Etsy is an online retail community just like eBay only that it focuses on vintage or handcrafted commodities. Most of the goods sold there are in the jewelry, arts, crafts, housewares, artisan candies, baked goods, or paper-goods categories. For an item to qualify as vintage it has to be at least 20 years old and can be anything from photos, costumes, housewares, jewelry, and clothing. Etsy provides a great avenue for you to sell your homemade goods—but that’s not all. You can find a limitless number of items on Etsy that will help your home business. For instance, if you use The Happy Planner, Filofax, or Erin Condren to schedule and organize your life or business, there are downloadable stickers and inserts that you can buy and use in your planner. If you need promotional items that have your logo on them; there are a good number of Etsy sellers that can make custom swag for you. They will not only make coffee cups and pens, but also cosmetics, jewelry, bookmarks, and pretty much everything with your logo and name on them. For a very long time, a majority of artisans and craftsman sold their commodities at open markets, fairs, and on consignment.

YouTube CEO To Creators: We’re Going To Be Better About Demonetization

YouTube, in its efforts to protect brands from being associated with violent, extreme, or otherwise inappropriate content, has spent the better of 2017 demonetizing a huge number of videos, in what has become known as the “adpocalypse.”

While the video site’s aggressive action has allayed some of the fears of brand partners, it has also angered creators, who feel their videos are being stripped of revenue in an overzealous manner. Some videomakers, such as h3h3productions, have begun to spend more time on other platforms as a result. Others have documented the volume of lost ad revenue they are enduring.

James Cameron and Sigourney Weaver tease underwater adventures in ‘Avatar 2’

Pro tip: If you’re going to work with James Cameron, you’d better be prepared to get wet. Both onscreen and off, the filmmaker has long been fascinated by exploring the ocean depths, whether he’s recreating the sinking of the Titanic or exploring the Mariana Trench in his own submersible. The actors he employs frequently have to take prolonged dips as well … whether they like it or not. For Titanic, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio memorably risked hypothermia while shooting the watery climax in freezing temperatures. And the entire ensemble of Cameron’s 1989 film The Abyss, including Ed Harris and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, took a week-long course in underwater diving to prepare for what proved to be a protracted and strenuous shoot.

Now it’s the Avatar 2 cast’s turn to get hooked on Cameron’s longtime passion. Speaking with Yahoo Entertainment recently, Sigourney Weaver — who will return to Pandora in the top-secret sequel to the 2009 hit, albeit as a different character — reveals that her preproduction training included a crash course in freediving. “At least on land, I’m up to four minutes holding my breath, ” the actress boasted. “And I’m now scuba certified as well as in the midst of becoming an accomplished free diver. Once I completed my scuba course, Jim said to me, ‘The 75 percent of the world that’s underwater is now part of what your world gets to be.’”

In a separate conversation, Cameron confirmed early reports that Pandora’s ocean environments will play a major role in an ambitious slate of films that will include four installments to be released between 2020 and 2025, with an estimated $1 billion price tag. And, in fact, official casting announcements for the sequels now being shot make mention of the planet’s water-based Na’vi tribe, the Metkayina Clan. “The thing you have to remember is that we’re not doing underwater photography; we’re doing underwater performance capture,” Cameron says, adding that they’re already shooting underwater sequences in a small tank, with plans to graduate to a bigger one in January. “Nobody’s ever done that before. Just like when I was making The Abyss and Titanic, I’m way out there in the wilderness doing new stuff,” he said. “I’d be totally lost if I hadn’t done those two films and had a good sense of what works and what doesn’t work. All of that previous work was the foundation for doing the Avatar sequels.”
