Taboo Creator Confirms 3 Season Storyline Planned
Taboo co-creator Steven Knight has confirmed plans for the FX series to only run for three seasons total. Knight, Tom Hardy and Edward “Chips” Hardy’s highly-strange and outlandish period drama premiered in the United Kingdom and the United States this past January, received mostly positive reviews from critics highlighting Tom Hardy’s performance as the mysterious, intense and brooding James Delaney – despite the series’ slow burn and drawn-out feel. Taboo season 2 was officially confirmed back in March, at which point Knight first alluded to plans for a three season arc.
Taboo season 2 will continue to follow the brutal story of James Delaney after he made his daring and dangerous escape from London in 1814 after the death of his half-sister Zilpha Geary (Oona Chaplin), leaving behind his servant Brace (David Hayman) and his step-mother Lorna Bow’s (Jessie Buckley) life in peril, after being shot before escaping with Delany on his ship. Delany also enacted his revenge against the East India Company’s Sir Stuart Strange (Jonathan Pryce), after a fiery explosion claimed his life.

In an interview with the Huffington Post UK, Knight confirmed that Taboo will only run three seasons and hinted about the path James Delaney’s story will be taking over the course of the three seasons he has planned out. Here is what Knight had to say about the timeline of Taboo:
“I can feel the three acts. The first was ‘the escape’. The second will be ‘the journey’ and the third will be ‘the arrival’, and that’ll be it. I don’t think the story will be what viewers are expecting, but hopefully they’ll enjoy it.”
Knight also delved into the specific type of violence that has become a staple for the series – with explosions, gruesome stabbings, spousal violence and graphic murders following Delany seemingly everywhere he goes (and plaguing everyone he meets). Here is what Knight had to say about his use of violence in Taboo and why his use of violence is grounded in the reality of the era of London the series is set in:
“It’s not simple violence. It’s dealing with a time when violence was much more acceptance, plus this kind of drama is about extreme situations, when people’s behaviour is pushed beyond the borders of normal.”
The series first originated from a story written by Chips and Tom Hardy (the latter being known for such films as The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road and his upcoming WWII movie Dunkirk). Knight, who also worked with Hardy on his other hit period drama series Peaky Blinders on BBC, was approached by the two wanting to transform their story into a small screen drama. In addition to breaking down the next seasons of Taboo and discussing his use of violence in the series, Knight also talked about why he’s passionate about telling stories set in history:
“You have to work really hard to make history boring. There was always lots going on, with structures failing, being rebuilt. History has always been taught in terms of kings and queens, and actually the real drama is at the far less stable points in society. That’s where I find my stories.”

Candice Wiggins Says She Was Bullied During WNBA Career
Nearly one year since announcing her retirement, former WNBA star Candice Wiggins revealed Monday that she was bullied during her time in the league.
According to Tod Leonard of the San Diego Union-Tribune, the former Minnesota Lynx standout said her status as a heterosexual made her a target for criticism:
Me being heterosexual and straight, and being vocal in my identity as a straight woman was huge. I would say 98 percent of the women in the WNBA are gay women. It was a conformist type of place. There was a whole different set of rules they [the other players] could apply.
There was a lot of jealousy and competition, and we’re all fighting for crumbs. The way I looked, the way I played – those things contributed to the tension.
People were deliberately trying to hurt me all of the time. I had never been called the B-word so many times in my life than I was in my rookie season. I’d never been thrown to the ground so much. The message was: ‘We want you to know we don’t like you.’
Wiggins called the WNBA culture “toxic” and said it contributed to her retiring two years earlier than she intended.
The Stanford alum won a single WNBA title during her eight-year career and averaged 8.6 points per game with the Lynx, Tulsa Shock, Los Angeles Sparks and New York Liberty.
In addition to getting bullied, Wiggins said playing in the WNBA was difficult because of an overall lack of fan interest in the product.
Now 30 years of age, Wiggins is pursuing a career in professional beach volleyball with an eye toward potentially playing in the Olympics one day.

Apple is hiring a Siri Event Maven to make it smarter about cultural events
Apple is looking to make its Siri assistant a little smarter when it comes to significant, upcoming events. The company has posted a job listing for a position titled “Siri Event Maven,” and the person who eventually fills that role will be responsible for providing “strategic awareness of cultural happenings in the collective zeitgeist.” 9to5Mac first reported on the posting.
Siri is already relatively competent at answering questions around major events — like the classic “What time is the Super Bowl?” — but clearly Apple wants to get a little more comprehensive and will task the future hire with finding events that Siri doesn’t already know about. Apple says “scouring social media and the web” is one way to assemble that list, but applicants should have a strong sense of noteworthy goings-on in the world all on their own. The job description makes that clear:
Do you bring “Wookie Cookies” to the office for “May The Forth Be With You”? Is your favorite holiday “∏ Day” or “Talk like a Pirate Day”? We’re looking for someone to help us keep Siri up to date on all the various events happening around the world.
And the leading qualification for this job is:
Must consider yourself a maven, trend-setter or Czar of cool. Non-negotiable.
Father Dies While Saving Daughter From Drowning
A San Francisco man drowned while kayaking south of Rio Vista on Sunday afternoon after helping to save his daughter.
The man, who has been identified by the Sacramento County coroner’s office as 40-year-old Roni Avila Alvarado, was kayaking with his 5-year-old daughter in Three Mile Slough, part of the Brannan Island State Recreation Area, when their kayak overturned, according to Sacramento County sheriff’s Sgt. Tony Turnbull.

Both Alvarado and the girl went under initially, but he surfaced with her and held her above the water until she could be picked up by a good Samaritan on a jet ski in the area.
He then went under again and did not resurface. Neither the father nor the daughter wore a life jacket.
The incident was reported a little before 2:30 p.m. A search was conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard and Solano County and Sacramento County units. Alvarado’s body was recovered a little after 11 p.m.
