In love with Love - Poems by Subhadip Mukherjee

Ernest Hemingway said, “There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” Reading the poetry of Subhadip Mukherjee in his book ‘ছেঁড়া চিনতার Scribbles’ (Offtrack Publishers, co-authored by Dr. Kausik Ghosh), I am convinced that he is bleeding. And that’s good news.
Subhadip is a nagorik kobiyal. His poems hold mirror to the stifling urban life with its rat race, with its mindless pursuit of  materialistic ambitions, and with its consumerism.

Book Review - The Goddess in Flesh by Antara Banerjee

I finished reading Antara Banerjee’s book ‘The Goddess in Flesh’ a few days back. I usually allow myself some time before I write about my perspective on a book to check how much of the book stays with me, to check if the book is still relevant for me, and if there are images from the narrative that refuse to leave me.
‘The Goddess in Flesh’ scores on all fronts.
The book has three stories - ‘Vama’, ‘Possessed’ and ‘The Forbidden Threshold’. The stories are about women – women shunned by...

What does the Indian media have to say about In the Shadows of Death

Go Air in-flight magazine Absolute India Tabloid The Free Press Journal The Indian Express The Hindustan Times The Hindu - 2 The Hindu (1)

In the Shadows of Death completes 5 months and I thought it would be worthwhile to summarize the media mentions for my work.

I can't thank enough the respected reviewers who have been insightful, looking beyond the obvious elements of thrill and suspense and commenting on the dynamics of human relationships in contemporary urban India that I made humble efforts to...

Why In the Shadows of Death is much more than a thriller

I strongly believe that an author of popular fiction, trying primarily to entertain, also has a great social responsibility. The work of an author, in my view, should be socially relevant and should hold mirror to the changing times and lifestyle of the people his work is meant for.
In the garb of a thriller, In the Shadows of Death deals with a number of issues - fragility of marriages, corporate scandals, insecurities in a relationship driving an individual to the edge - each potentially lea...

The Cookery Show and a Love Story

This comes probably a month late. I wrote a short story 'The Cookery Show and a Love Story' for the Romance e-zine sometime back. The story was about the lessons on life and love that a young man in college receives from his grand parents on Valentine's Day. A story liked by a number of my readers, this one is close to my heart.
Here is an excerpt-
-1-My eyes went to the wall clock as noise of mild commotion reached my ears from the next room. It, indeed, was 9 pm on a Friday – time for ‘India...

Excerpt from short story: The Rattle

My short story 'The Rattle' was published sometime back in the horror e-zine Under the Bed. A story that readers have described to me as thrilling and even scary for some was, for me, an emotional journey.

Presenting an excerpt:

I have blood on my hands

I kept repeating the line in my mind even as I drove down the graveled path in the direction of the porch. That was the last line Uncle Jonathan had written in the diary before he was admitted to the hospital. He did not make it.
That was severa...

Beyond a Death Wish: Short story in eFiction

My short story "Beyond a Death Wish" was recently published in the eFiction magazine. It is about the events that take place during a winter evening in Kolkata when an old man, disillusioned with the world around him, decided to end his life.

It's always a pleasure collaborating with wonderful creative minds spread all over the world.

Here is an excerpt from the story:

Chapter I
When good old Raghu Nath stepped on the roof of Tower C of Central Plaza Apartments in the Alipore area of Kolkat...

Excerpt from Loves Lost

It's spring and love is in the air. In keeping with the spirit of the season, I wanted to share with you an excerpt of the story "Love Came Calling Again" from my book "Loves Lost".

I have always wanted to "feel" the love for someone, more than "being loved" and pampered.
I missed having someone in my life I would feel like cuddling with, on the couch in front of the TV with a tub of popcorn on a rainy evening, or someone I would just be happy buying things for, even if he didn’t need any of th...
