Short Snow Lake

Welp, did it again. Shortened a favorite. This time it’s Snow Lake, which was snowed in when I last walked to it. If you need a quick break and can’t leave what you’re doing, try this.

Reminder, liking and subscribing only helps me at YouTube. Click the bell if you want to know when the next hike is released. If you’d rather offer direct support please consider donating at Patreon.

You Asked for It

I’ve been asked a number of times for shorter versions of the whole hikes I usually publish. This isn’t, but itself, a problem. To reduce a video in size is actually pretty easily done and sometimes I do it by simply turning the camera off while I walk. The challenge comes when I look at a whole hiking video and try to decide which parts do people want to see.

For me a hike is usually something more than it’s parts. The vistas are wonderful, but without the closed in hallway of trees leading ...

Breaking the Pattern

First day of school for Aral today. Also, Tess is back at her school grindstone. That leaves me with plenty to do, but occasional chances to beat feet. This morning after drop off I took the doggo and new camera over to Island Center Park for a short walk/run and an opportunity grab some test footage from my new camera.

To be clear, I have used the DJI OSMO Pocket 2 before. I shot this sunrise time-lapse with it. I’ve also used it for some other stationary shots and videos. And, it’s grea...

September

Just an FYI, I’ve paused Patreon’s billing for September. This means you should not see any activity for the month.

I’ve chosen to take this action because August has been fruitless for hikes and video. Primarily because the Delta variant is running rough over everything I opted to stay home and work on things here. The constant smoke from wildfires hasn’t made filming easier either.

I’m hoping to get out in September, but I’m forced by the variability of the pandemic and wildfire situati...

Simple Sunrise

Objects of Focus is series of short videos that you can use to take yourself out of the moment. Think of them as a meditation aid or a pleasant cup of tea, but for your eyes and ears. They’re short, no heroics required, and should be calming for most people.

Sunrises over Puget Sound.

Please leave a like if you enjoyed this video, and subscribe if you’d like to see more.

As always, you can support FEETFORBRAINS hiking, trekking, and other cinematography productions at Patreon by f...

Objects of Focus

Hey I’m trying something new! Yeah, really. Objects of Focus is series of short videos that you can use to take yourself out of the moment. Think of them as a meditation aid or a pleasant cup of tea, but for your eyes and ears. They’re short, no heroics required, and should be calming for most people.

The first one is only a minute long. It’s just a moment I captured in my garden while hanging some wash on the line, but if you’re anything like me you’ll enjoy watching bumblebees in flow...

Kendall Katwalk

Along the southern end of Section J of the Pacific Crest Trail in Washington exists an unrivaled view that exacts a hefty toll from those who want to experience its vista. Walk up, then climb some more, and you will arrive on a narrow spine of rock that connects two of many knobby shoulders of the Cascade Crest. Hold onto your hat, often anabatic winds will gust up from both sides at once.

You can of course turn around here, and many people do, but there is still much trail past this po...

An Apology to the Class of 1991

Holy Cow! It’s been 30 years!

Yes, I see it written all over my face too. Every time I look in the mirror in fact. Also, why I don’t look in the mirror so much any more.

At the end of this month some of you have a shindig planed back in our hometown. I’m not going to make it. This is an apology.

Yes, I, surprisingly enjoyed my time at our 20 year reunion. It was nothing like I anticipated it might be and funnily it helped me close a lot of open crap up that needed closing from our mut...

Ridge & Gravel Lakes via Kendall Katwalk Trail Report (PCT-J)

I am going to begin this report with a line that has been swimming amongst my thoughts since just below the Kendall Katwalk, “Don’t be this person.” Who I mean is the pink hatted boomer descending the trail, what I mean is the self appointed “expert” on what/who does and does not have value.

Happy picture of me to distract from unhappy words of me

Long story short. Yes, ya old hag, it is a camera. No, I am not taking pictures of myself like the narcissist you seem to think I am. Had you bo...

Summerland & Panhandle Gap

Please remember to leave a like and subscribe for more hiking.

Spending time on the side shoulders of Mount Rainier is like living on a giant. This hike meanders along the Frying Pan Creek drainage to its high point at Panhandle Gap. It’s a segment of the Wonderland Trail which circumnavigates the entirety of one of North America’s most recognizable volcanoes and a slice of trail history dating back to 1915.

On this hike you’ll experience a range of possibilities from ancient old gro...
