Taking Responsibility

September, my birth month, has become sort of my Little New-Year. This year I’m starting a new fitness and nutrition program. Revitalizing my interest in endurance sports as well as training for those kinds of events. Renewing my commitment to my family, my friends and myself.

In short, I’m taking responsibility for all the things I influence. I’m taking ownership. This also means I’m going to take more ownership for my artistic vision.

Last night I re-readMETAtropolis: Cascadiaand this made...

RaidLight Olmo Ultra Raid Desert 30L + Health Planning

If you love trail running and fastpackingas much as I do, right now is about the time acutegear envy will set in. As I said in the unboxing video above I’m back out on the trail again, and that means improvements to my kit.

First up, is the RaidLight OLMO Ultra Raid Desert 30L pack.

First Glance

This pack weighs in at a measly 710 grams (1.6 lbs) and much of that appears to come from subdivisions inside each of the main compartments. The pack has seven (7) sealed nylon zippers with metal tog...

Tuesday, Holy Cow Blizz!

seppatch

Next Tuesday Blizzard is patching my favorite game. Heroes of the Storm is getting a new hero and a couple of new maps. While they’ve released a new hero about once a month now since the game hit the market, this is the first time maps have been added to the MOBA.

Apparently, maps are big!

Cover Art from Danny Flynn for “Starship Troopers”

I have to tell someone. I am becoming weary of contemporaryfiction outlets reviewing the works of dead science fiction authors. Every time I see another article like this, I’m reminded of the old men who frequented my coffee shop. They’d habitually sit around shooting the shit, sipping their cuppa, while comparing anything and everything of today to their bygone era.

It is statements like this that chap my hide.

“When examining military scien...

Getting Things Flowing

“It’s a trap!”

I’ve just spent the last two days off theisland, not writing. Sitting down to write this morning I was dismayed to discover I needed to hit pause. The blog post I was going to write was fast becoming a polemic which bordered on adiatribe.Something is wrong on the internets.

What I had wanted to say was that toxic masculinity is dangerous and that it probably shouldn’tbe used to market coffee. I’d seen an ad, and yeah, I was perturbed. But here’s the thing, a couple of hundred...

Zombies, A Triptych of Horror

While on a run the other night I got to thinking about zombie stories. Yes, it was night, and consequently, it was dark, but that had little to do with this particular noodling. As I’ve run through the moon shade of the madronas, I been much more concerned about the mountain lion that’s been prowling our forest than the remote possibility of the undead gnawing on my knees.

I can think of only three kinds of zombies in horror. In all cases, these former people end up playing the role of antago...
