Welcome back to the Virtual Writing Academy, a show where we learn by writing! This time around we’re going to be working with a character who happens to be hundreds of years old, along with the painful realization that nothing is sacred— and that time changes all.

Today’s writing musical recommendations are:

Sorrow (Writing Mix) - Listen
“Guitar for Zanarkand” by Lazerwolph - Listen & Download

Ah, OK. Why is your pen name Max Kirin, then? (I was really wanting to see where the Kirin came from)

Kirin is the name of the Chinese Unicorn. Though, do not be fooled, ‘M. Kirin’ was not my first idea for a pen name– as you can see here ;p

PS: I actually talked in detail on why I picked my pen name in .

PPS: Someone was wondering if Max is my real first name, and as a matter of fact it is~

Hey Max! I was wondering if you have any other blogs or if this was your only one.

Nope, this is my only blog. It’s kind of already a little overwhelming considering all the other social-places I maintain! D:

Welcome back to ‘Max Plays’, a gaming segment where I play through a story-focused video game and examine the way that it builds a narrative. This time around I am playing through a big one! None other than Square’s finest: Final Fantasy IX. In this game we take the role of a ragtag party of characters, and partake in a story that at first appears to be about war between two great nations— but there’s more...

Daily Character Question

The Crazed Moon
Pick one of your secondary characters:
Write a scene where this character is accused of a terrible crime that happened decades prior. The catch? They are actually guilty. How do they react to this? Will they turn themselves in, or could it be that they’ve already suffered enough?

Any work you create based off this prompt belongs to you, no sourcing is necessary though it would be really appreciated! And don’t forget to tag maxkirin (or tweet @MistreKirin...

Daily Weird Prompt

Difficulty Shift
Write about a character who has lead a tough life full of strife and loss. The catch? One day, this character wakes up in a penthouse apartment they do not recognize. Double catch? This character has just switched places with an alternate-dimension version of themselves, who has faced not strife– but luxury all of their life.

Any work you create based off this prompt belongs to you, no sourcing is necessary though it would be really appreciated! And don’t fo...
