Happy Holidays!
Happy Holidays!
Well, the 2nd edition of The Phoenix Project turned out to be almost 12,000 words longer! That was a surprise to me but it really does make the book better. There are three new scenes and half-a-dozen more that have been “extended”.
The 2nd edition of Dark Horizon is proceeding quickly and will probably be around 5,000 words longer than the original and has also had some corrections made to improve readability just like the first novel.
Now, I know what your thinking: “Kris, will there be a 2nd edition of all your books? Is the Flight for the Ancients going to have an extended cut as well?”
Short answer?
No.
Longer answer?
The first two novels were edited down considerably on the advice of perspective agents who told me that my books were WAY too long. So I edited them down to what was recommended.
Truth is that I cut out too much material and decided to restore the material that I felt badly needed to be in the first two novels. I didn’t do that with the third novel and won’t be doing that with the future books either.
So, no extended cuts for the rest of the books because it’s not needed!

Extended editions
Okay, the third novel is finally out! BUT, I’m sorry to say that I couldn’t get the new editions of the first and second novels out in time. It simply wasn’t possible to get them done on time, at least not in the way that I want them done.
There are entire new scenes that are going into the first novel that will extend the Phoenix Project by about ten thousand words. In the end, that is what I decided that I really wanted to do: an extended edition of the book. Sort of like what Peter Jackson did with Lord of the Rings all those years ago after the theatrical releases of those films came out. He had those DVDs that had all that extra footage in them....and you know what? I LOVED them!!!
This is what the new edition of the first novel is going to be: an extended edition. It’s going to have new scenes, extended scenes and be a little clearer than it was before. The second novel, now that I’ve revisited it, will also have a new scene and be a little longer as well.
And in order to do all of this, it’s going to take a longer than I initially thought and I also wasn’t able to juggle doing that and get the third novel out at the same time. I guess I’m just not as young as I used to be!
Anyway, the new editions with the new covers will be out as soon as I can get them done. Hopefully the new edition of the first novel will be out within the next month.
