PLACES: Home Continent
Suddenly, Freydolf realized they’d run up against a rather large cultural gap. With a measure of chagrin, he asked, “Haven’t you heard of the ocean?”
Tupper’s eyes narrowed in thought. “Old Gruff sometimes talks about a place with water as wide as the plains. Ewert figures he made it up, but Farley likes the idea, so he says it’s true.”
“The ocean’s real,” Freydolf assured, wishing he could show the lad.

ART: Meadowsweet [002]
From time to time, I’ll be sharing sketches and illustrations from Galleries of Stone on this blog. These art posts feature pieces I’ve commissioned, as well as gift art. Today, I’m featuring Morven’s Keeper. Freydolf is a Pred who doesn’t quite live up to his race’s vicious reputation. As Merona Meadowsweet (Tupper’s mother) is kind enough to point out, the man is “mild as moonlight.”

RACES: Flox & Pred
When Tupper Meadowsweet is first hired by the gray mountain’s Keeper, the lad has little concept of the world beyond his village. He’s never heard of oceans, let alone other continents, so he’s just as frightened as the rest of the Flox in Hayward when Freydolf strides into town. If the rumors are to be believed, the mountain’s Keeper is a monster. And with his wild hair, claws, and fangs, the Pred certainly looks the part.

PREVIEW: Spot Illustrations
Meadowsweet is inching closer to publication. This week, I finished a meticulous final edit and swapped notes with my trusty proofers. Some assiduous pruning left my manuscript about 1,000 words lighter. Let’s hear it for lean prose!
Other indie publishing landmarks:
• I learned how to create a linked table of contents.
• After a little fiddling, I’m satisfied with the new prologue.
• There’s finally a dedication (of sorts) on the dedication page.
• My book has an honest-to-goodness ISBN on its co...

MILESTONE: First Post
Hello and welcome!
These beginnings are often awkward, so let’s be conversational and start with small talk. I’m CJ, and while I do various, sundry, and manifold things, this blog is mostly about one of those things. I write books. Very soon now, I’ll be releasing the first book in a trilogy I wrote back in 2012. Galleries of Stone, Book 1: Meadowsweet is undergoing its final proofreading pass. Once all the loose ends are taken care of, I’ll click “publish” and send my story out into a wider w...
