not my favorite shenanigan.
Circulation staff at Colorado College’s Tutt Library have found a couple of decorated hard-boiled eggs on bookshelves in our stacks. We’re not sure who’s behind this, or how long it’s been going on, and you know we’re all for library shenanigans in general, but this one has some potentially yucky consequences down the line. We humbly request: if you want to hide eggs in the library, could you maybe use plastic eggs, or blown eggs, or, you know, any kind of non-smelly, non-messy egg-like items instead?

Thanks, Marianne Aldrich, for the photo.

Russian library cat wears bow tie, is cute
As Ryan Broderick of Buzzfeed puts it: “Oh My God, There’s A Cat In Russia That Wears A Bow Tie And Works As A Librarian. The world is a beautiful place.”

fakely boring ads for the library
In honor of National Library Card Sign-Up Month (also known as September), Ann Leonard of the Pinal County Library District in Arizona has created this handy Pinterest board of Penguin/Pelican style book covers advertising library services. More information here. Thanks, BoingBoing!

Best “shh” ever? Twerking at the library
“Caramel Kitten” twerks at a bookdrop and inside a library. (She twerks at a lot of other everyday places, too.). A little bit NSFW, depending where you W. Her “shh” at 0:21 made me laugh. Thanks, BoingBoing!

cake in the library?!
The Huntington Library in San Marino, CA has decided to attempt to preserve two pieces of wedding cake found in the papers of Edwin Carpenter. The pieces date from 1876 and 1915 and have “little research value.” Nevertheless, the staff have found themselves reluctant to discard cake. (I’m with ya, Huntington Library.) Thanks, Steve Fisher!

  Student film: a librarian’s dream
This charming student project was filmed at Oberlin’s Mudd Library. I am appalled, however, that a librarian’s dream would involve book throwing! Thanks, Ed Vermue.

Beastie Boys “Sabotage” — in a library
A library version of the Beastie Boys video “Sabotage,” shot at the Francis W. Parker School in Chicago. Here’s the original video, for comparison. Thanks, BoingBoing and NYPL.

accidental library shenanigan?
I’m guessing this happened accidentally, but somebody took a picture of it on purpose, and that’s a shenanigan. (I had trouble seeing it at first. Hint: look at the stickers. ) Thanks, Suzie DeGrasse!

The Two Ronnies: Shouting in the Library
We here at Library Shenanigans have pointed you toward The Two Ronnies before, but we must do it again. Here’s the shouting in the library sketch. Thanks, David Kay!

a floating zine library?
Is it “an experimental public art project” or a floating library of artists’ books and zines? Both, apparently, and maybe more. Planned for August 2013 at Cedar Lake in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As of today it appears that the design and contents of the library are still up in the air, with this warning:

PLEASE NOTE that by submitting your materials for access on the Floating Library you acknowledge that any of these things may happen to your printed matter:
-extensive water damage
-stepped on at the bottom of a canoe
-sand between the pages
-borrowed and never returned
-returned but tattered after being enjoyed by many people.
Thanks, Emily Lloyd!
