DAY 115 - Dumass!

Welcome my wonderful readers!

You ever had something from pop culture stick with you for so many years? A catch phrase, word, saying from a song, tv show, movie? For me, it's from a commercial from several years ago. I loved it, and ever since I use the word Dumass more often than Dumbass.

Check it out...

Day 113 - Power of the Pen

Welcome my wonderful readers!

A pen is one of my favorite things in the world. As an author, it's still my preferred method for writing, and my interest is always caught when I come across a new one. Here are a few that are pretty cool!

$$$ Pen:

I think I'd be inspired to write a story within the world of luxury if had held this pen!

3D Doodler:

Would like to try my hand at creating with this one, although I'm sure my work with ink is far greater than anything I could come up with in 3D.

The Learning Pen:

I don't know about this one. Might get irritated with it. I prefer to figure out mistakes on my own. But it could be helpful in schools.

DAY 112 - Treasure In A Box

Welcome my wonderful readers!

As fellow bookworms, I'm sure you can appreciate today's entry.

So I'm living in the Philippines with my wife, until I can get a visa for her so we can go home to the U.S. Well, this country is still "developing", and so it can be a pain-in-the-ass to try and track down certain books. Such was the case for the last book in The Giver series, Son, as well as the first book in The Mayfair Witches, so I had to order the two via Amazon. The shipping cost me nearly as much as the actual two items, but when you gotta have a book, you do what must be done!

I had been waiting for nearly four weeks for the package to arrive, and today I decided to go to the post office to leave my name, address, and contact info with them so they knew I'd be expecting the parcel any day now. Well, turns out the package was already there! The bad thing... It had been there for a damn full week! This is the kind of bullshit I have been forced to put up with for a number of years while in my wife's native country. Such incompetence!

And as if that weren't enough, the package had a hole in it! My wife said someone probably made it to see if there was anything in it that they liked. Whether or not they felt like stealing it. Fortunately for me, if this was indeed the case, the imbecile didn't see the literary treasure for what it is. (Speaking of The Giver conclusion. Hoping Mayfair Witches will be great too).

DAY 109 - Culture

Welcome my wonderful readers!

As many of you know by now, I am an American living with my Filipina wife in her native country until I can meet the income requirements to acquire a visa for her.

With the exception of a terrorist attack, nothing will make you more patriotic than being away from home, for it is through this experience that you will learn just how precious 'home' really is!

I could never have imagined I'd be away for so long. But I guess it was my destiny to sacrifice comfort, health, potential for prosperity, and all the other treasures for the love of my wife. And so I remain in an environment that robbed me of my youth some twelve years ago. A discriminate society that never passes up an opportunity to remind me of how fortunate I was to have been born and raised in a culture of common sense, open-mindedness, ambition, and REAL chances to make ambitions reality!

When it comes to drive and striving for excellence, no other culture in the world compares to that of Americans. Not a boasted opinion, but just a true undisputed fact. Which is why I couldn't help but take offense when an ignorant comment was made by a German guy my wife met at the park here in Baguio City.
(Don't worry, she wasn't going behind my back cheating or anything-LOL!)

Walking in the park enjoying a snack(while I was home writing) my wife passed this German and his crying baby while they waited for the child's mother to return. Clearly, the father didn't have much experience in pacifying the little guy, and being the lover of kids she is, my wife stopped and admired the foreign infant.

Soon she had asked to hold little Timmy, and almost right away the baby stopped crying and was on his way to falling asleep.

While his child doze in this stranger's arms, the German told my wife how he, his significant other, and Timmy were visiting Baguio City as part of their vacation to the Philippines. He was quite the traveler, and mentioned how he enjoyed experiencing different cultures. The fact had been raised that my wife was married to an American, and before long Mr. German made an ignorant statement that I would have taken offense to if I were there.

"Americans have no culture."

Sure, I'm patriotic and all, but that doesn't mean I'm bias. I live my life in alignment with truth. If he would have said something like, "Americans, in general, are poor linguists," I couldn't really argue against such a point, because in reality, in general, we are. But to say something as utterly stupid as "Americans have no culture"?! Just because we're not running around in loincloths dancing to drums doesn't mean we don't have culture! (Some might bring up Native Americans, and say we imprisoned our culture on reservations, but that was actually sins of those who came before us, just as slavery was.)

The fact of the matter is, the whole world adopted our culture of prosperity! Of equality and opportunity! Including Germany!

Man, this guy was lucky he didn't receive the ranting and raving my wife endured once she returned home and told me of her afternoon! I mean, by no means are we a perfect culture, but to have changed the world with a culture all other countries aspire to emulate...?

Now that's a pretty amazing damn culture if you ask me!

See you tomorrow:)

DAY 107 - Sizzlin' Slogan!

Welcome my wonderful readers!

As some of you may know, I've been staying here in the Philippines with my wife until I can bring her home to the U.S.

Medicine here sucks compared to back home, but what really stood out was this cough medicine they have. Ascof. How could they NOT see the irony when coming up with this name?! So I just had to come up with a slogan for it...!

Ascof. For The Times You're Coughing Your Ass Off.

Here's one of the actual commercials for Ascof...
