Our Turn to Bless

Friday is the first anniversary of my mom's passing, so this blog is in her honor.
In the cemetery where my mother is buried are the graves of several generations of women in my family. Strong women, loving women who had class, grit, and gumption. As I stood among their headstones, this realization came to me: We have so many days allotted to us to bless the world around us, and then it’s somebody else’s turn. Let’s make the most of our turn to bless.

A Person's Worth
A person’s worth is not summed up in what he or she can do for us. Neither is God’s. His worth is in who He is, what He does, how He does it, and why He does it. It’s in His “bright and warm,” in His ways of peace and truth, and in the fullness of His character and personality.

In that process and in those struggles, we come to know Him better and r...

Stress Relievers
"Stress" is the word that will be written across the year 2013 in my memory. It began when my mom passed away in January. It was difficult to grasp the reality that she is no longer here, and it was hard to see all of her treasures being dispersed from her home. Then we had to do some work on her house to get it ready to sell. We had a few bumps along the way as we were trying to find contractors. A few weeks later, we started a new business, and not many of th...

Lessons from Home - Introduction

“Lessons from Home” are those bits of wisdom and encouragement that we learned when we were growing up, the ones passed down to us from those who love us. We may have received insights from an older brother or sister about how to be a good friend, from our mom about the value of faithfulness and loyalty, or from our dad about the practical expressions of honor.
The worth of these lessons became clear as we grew older. They added quality to our relati...
