Of Anglo-Scottish origin Elizabeth Harding was born in Sheffield but the family moved to Dundee when she was still a baby and several years later returned to Yorkshire. Now she lives in the Netherlands.

She is a novelist and poet; her books include the novels 'Winter of the Lyrebird' and the quartet 'The Exiled Bell' and poetry collections such as 'Saint Martin's Eve', 'Harley Davidson and Hildegard's Paraclete' and 'Fabula Saltica'. She has also worked as an editor and translator and for ten years taught Scientific Writing for the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.
