Marketing Self-Published Books is Time-Consuming

Now that ‘On The Other Hand’ is published and available in paperback and e-book formats my primary task has been to market it. It would be wonderful to sit down and concentrate on writing my new book (title still a secret and it’s pretty cool). However, I’ve written less than a chapter so far, because I’ve been far too busy promoting my finished book. It’s a minefield on the web and marketing is not a talent of mine; neither do I enjoy it. I much prefer to be lost in ‘mindfulness’.

Marketing self-published books is time-consuming. Self-published authors are an easy target for predators who know how difficult it is for writers to get their books noticed. Mostly these predators stand out like a sore thumb so they’re easily avoidable, if you follow two simple rules; do your own research and don’t fall for sweet-sounding catchphrases that promise much but deliver little. This research takes time but it’s worth putting energy into.

It doesn’t matter how good your book is, it won’t sell if no-one knows that it’s available. Go through your marketing options and push your book to get it noticed, leaving copies in the right places such as with book clubs who are interested in your genre. Trust in yourself and trust in the Universe. Trust in your own mindfulness.

Bearing the above in mind, I shall now be dividing my time between marketing and writing so that  I can capture in print, those precious and wonderful insights that I want to share with you in my next book.

On the Other Hand: The Little Anthology of Big Questions, looks at how the ‘mind’ works and asks what ‘reality’ actually is. This is not a scientific book but rather it has evolved from looking into my own mind in order that I might understand it more. What are the two voices we all constantly hear? One that says “Leave the chocolate cake” and the other “Go on, eat it”? My first chapter is called Something’s not Quite Right with the World and something really isn’t. There’s a marvellous and ingenious secret waiting to be discovered by anyone who cares to search for it. It can be hinted at but it can’t be told – it must be ‘realised’. Each of us must find it out for ourselves and that’s not easy to do. The key question is ‘Who am I?’ and there are many other interesting ones that crop up when we keep asking it. This project is very exciting for me and it can be for you too. It’s important to be prepared to self-criticise and recognise that our lives have been created by us, before we can begin to make changes to them.
