Debra SeS & 2014 Rock the Red Pump® (#RocktheRedPump) Campaign!
rSave the DATE: March 10, 2014 ( and every March 10 hereafter!) Do we need a reason to wear red pumps? Maybe and maybe not....
NOW, we have your attention, let's talk about HIV/AIDS and its impact on women and girls.
On March 10, the United States will recognize National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD).
Launched by the Office of Women’s Health, NWGHAAD is a nationwide observance that encourages people to take action in the fight against HIV/AIDS and raise awareness of its impact on women and girls.
Why is it important to learn as much as we can about HIV/AIDS?
HIV/AIDS in the United States
There are currently 1.1 million adults and adolescents in the United States living with HIV.Approximately 1 in 6 people (15.8%) who are infected with HIV do not know that they have been infectedTop ten states with the highest rates HIV/AIDS diagnosis are California, New York, Florida, Texas, Illinois, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia. 1 in 139 women will be diagnosed with HIV/AIDS at some point within their life.Every 47 minutes, a woman tests positive for HIV in the U.S. The largest number of HIV/AIDS diagnoses during recent years was for women aged 15–39.HIV/AIDS disproportionately affects minority women in the United States. According to the 2005 census, Black and Latina women represent 24% of all US women combined, but accounted for 82% of the estimated total of AIDS diagnoses for women in 2005.There are 34,000 young people living with HIV/AIDS in the United StatesThere are 1,000 new HIV cases among youth every monthYouths accounted for 25% (12,200) of new HIV infections in 2010. Of these, 57% were among blacks/African Americans, 20% among Hispanics/Latinos, and 20% among whites These numbers are overwhelming. We must take action to provide safety and healthcare for anyone affected by HIV/AIDS.

Debra SeS: International Women's Day & Women's History Month
International Women's Day -March 8 is the day we celebrate everything about being a woman - isn't that fun??
International Women's Day started in 1909 and is a national holiday in many countries!
Below is Rosie the Riveter, have you ever seen this image? This image of Rosie is iconic for women in the USA. There really is a woman who inspired this image - she worked in the factory when all the young US men went to World War II. The sad part of the story is that she lost her job when the men came home...that is when women starting looking for other work and professions, beyond wife and mother. Yes, that is right, this is when we discovered we could have it all.
It is very appropriate we have the day on March 8, because March is the month we celebrate our history, which I love to call Herstory! Ever wonder why we began marking March in this manner? Well, click this link, and you will discover the reason!

As women who are celebrating and working to improve conditions for all women and girls, we are also trying to change social and cultural norms. In order to accomplish this task, we invite our men into our movement!
Calling all men! It's time YOU take a stand against Violence Against Women. Raise your voice & join the HeforShe campaign.

The Missing Piece & Debra K Adams, MA
I am so proud of my accomplishment for 2013. I always wanted to write a book and this was the way for me to get started.
My Missing Piece?
As
ONE of 27 women/authors, from around the world, I share a lesson
learned based on my most profound life experience -- aftermath of a
violent marriage. Searching for my true self led me to the study of authenticity.

Debra SeS: Love Yourself First!!!
Self Empowerment StrategiesLet's talk rose petals, right? Hmmmm, I think the saying really goes like this, "Let's talk turkey!" Since I don't know where that cliché comes from, I co-opted it, for my own use. Besides that, rose petals are much prettier, much softer, and much more fragrant.
Roses are such a beautiful flower. There are national parks & gardens and week(s) long celebrations dedicated to the rose. I live near Portland, OR, where we have a Grand Floral (Rose) Festival every June. Don't forget the Pasadena, CA, I want to propose a Self empowerment Strategy for you to consider implementing.
Think about how you take care of your roses (or other favorite blossom/plants). You keep them watered, and fertilized, if necessary. You place them in a beautiful container that enhances their presence. You showcase them in a special room, on a special surface, in special light. You admire them, everytime you see them. You want them to last forever because of the joy they bring to you.
What would your world be like if you showed as much care and concern for yourself? Can you love yourself in the same way you love your flowers? Because, it really is important you DO love yourself. Also, it is important that you love yourself First!
Loving yourself first - that is what I call a "Self Empowerment Strategy." When you choose to love yourself, you are taking the MOST important and empowering step you could ever take. Only you can do that. Only you can love yourself first! When you make YOU the first priority, you will become a better friend, a better family member, a better co-worker, a better Human Being.
Isn't that what we all want? Let's all choose to love ourselves first, right now!

My Wild and Whacky Week
Yes, it has been that kind of week! for me, at least.....
As an activist / advocate / radio show host / speaker / author, it has been jam packed with events and causes and issues!
Last Monday, I put on my Program Director and Co-founder hat for the National Women's Coalition Against Violence and Exploitation to attend a meeting with a group of volunteers who may possibly select our nonprofit as the beneficiary of their fundraising event! That was exciting because we have not found a 'niche' event to become our annual event. I found it invigorating to answer their questions and absorb their enthusiasm, too. What a great way to start off the week.
Tuesday is my radio show... named "Debra SeS" on Bold Radio Station on Tuesdays at 5:30 pm PST. I always look forward to meeting the guest and the sharing of information we exchange. Guess what? My guest was a "no show." Goodness, what is a girl to do? Well, the show must go on, you know, so I jumped into it with both feet! I spent some radio time talking about taking risks can be scary but very beneficial, no matter your age or your situation! Take a listen to it here " Debra SeS - Meet Debra!" or click the image below.
Friday was V-Day ! Billion Rising. Read their mission statement if you have NOT heard of it yet. NWCAVE had organized a #1BillionRising Virtual Event for those who could NOT get time away from work & home obligations. I was in charge of 3 of 8 grandkids that day ! No problem, right? I video aped them Rising, Dancing For Justice! We had our own little event in the home. I am helping to raise the next generation of activists, you know!
my 3 Presidents - Kennedy (6), Lincoln (3), & Jaxon (8). I am such a proud Gramma!I even worked on Saturday, prior to our family birthday party for my son and grandson!
It was for such a great cause....A Global Conversation on Human and Sex Trafficking. It was organized by Unite Women, read our mission statement! I am the UniteWomen Washington State Director
It was sponsored by Authors on the Air Global Radio Network. We had a terrific panel, too. Somehow we managed to be engaged for 2.5 hours! Listen to the podcast, anytime......click the image below.
Fortunately, my frantic schedule did NOT kill me. In fact, it has made me stronger . Strong enough to benchpress a Buick? NO, maybe not.
Whew... it really has been a fun-filled and very active week! I remember that old adage, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Of course, I have to give it my personal spin...

It is good to have friends! and to have their suppo...
It is good to have friends! and to have their support for your work!
When writing my chapter, "The 5 As to Authenticty" for the anthology, "The Missing Piece: A Transformational Journey, I had no idea of who I might ask to write recommendations. When I received word that my colleagues of Unite Women.org had placed the book on their recommendation list, I was very happy. It was totally unexpected and veru much appreciated!
"The amazing souls within this book have come together to share their amazing stories with the world. They are all living proof that there is life after traumatic events and that you can find those missing pieces you need to move forward again in life." --Jan, Unite Women Florida

Recognition is not the outcome that motivates me to write, it is my hope that when I write about my experiences, it may be lessen the isolation one feels when going through a traumatic situation! When I realize I am NOT alone, somehow it makes it easier to understand and move forward.
Having friends who offer assistance, such as this recommendation, is a beautiful thing! it gives me motivation to keep moving forward, too! We all need a little support, now and then, including #1 International Best Selling Authors!!
