Sunday Snippet: One of These Things
Well, hello May. I'm not quite sure where April went but it's nice to have a nice shiny new month to get started.
Had a very busy work week with lots of movement on my projects. I'm finalizing a few and getting ready to start new ones. I love having a full calendar!
Kind of a slow week for television. The weather got a little nicer and I tried to take advantage of getting outside for a while.
I watched an episode of Peak Practice and it ended up being really good. I think there might end up being a new doctor coming to the practice, which will make things interesting.
Caught another MasterClass with Neil deGrasse Tyson. He spoke of cultural bias and I ended up getting a lot out of the lesson.
Got another episode of Young Wallander: Killer's Shadowin and pieces started falling into place. I loved the reveal at the end of the episode and can't wait to see what happens next. I have a feeling Kurt is going to be on the hot seat through no fault of his own this time.
Enjoyed another episode of The Ready Room. Anthony Rapp is such a fun interviewee to watch and he offered up some great insight into his character.
Watched another episode of Chicago Med and found it kind of interesting. I really love how the episode title tends to be a through line for the whole episode.
Caught another episode of The Snoopy Show and enjoyed it. The three or four vignettes are a lot of fun.
Got another episode of Cuffs in and should be close to the final episode of the season. I'm kind of interested to where they end up leaving things for the characters.
Started season eighteen of Silent Witness and ended up loving it. There's a bit of a different vibe this season and I like how the characters are interacting. I can safely say I really don't like Thomas's wife and I'm kind of hoping there's not going to be a lot of his personal drama. That said, I totally get his concern for his daughter.
Watched another episode of Classic Who and I'm liking how this arc is moving along. Even though the budget for Seven's turn as the Doctor is kind of lacking, the actors do a darn good job with what they have.
Enjoyed another episode of The Laundry Guy. I'm truly hoping there will be more episodes of this show. If not, I guess I can scour YouTube to see if there's anything else with Patric.
Last but not least, I watched the finale of Hawkeye. Really happy with how the season ended. I loved the three-way conclusions and the intermingling with the LARPers. I so hope there will be more of them if another season ends up happening.
That's pretty much it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from One of These Things, a novella that loosely retells the ugly duckling story.
Here's the mini-blurb:
Tanis Watts comes of age in the human world, but discovers she has fae abilities. When she's caught between warring factions, she falls in with the wrong side and barely escapes with her life. Seeking sanctuary, she lands on Falco Corsair's doorstep and runs headfirst into her destiny.
And a preview snippet…
Still glistening from their last round of sex, Calia sat with an unfocused gaze. "Someone from the Black will join the White and become a powerful force. Falco Corsair will be their guide and walk the path of fate's hand." She blinked and tilted her head to one side. "That was different. Usually I see things in you from your subconscious. This is a message directly from the universe." She slipped from the bed and shrugged into a diaphanous robe.
Falco shook his head. "I'm calling bullshit." He rolled off the bed and went to grab his pants from the living room. "No way. I'd never join forces with someone from the Black. My ancestors would spin in their graves." He jammed his feet into the legs. "Or rise up and seek retribution in the form of his head on a platter." He yanked the waistband up over his ass and tried to wrap his head around her prediction.
Calia hand-waved his concern. "Heed my words. The day will come." She placed a hand on his chest. "Our time together is very short, possibly at an end." A sad note crept into her voice.
Falco caught her fingers, giving them a squeeze. "I won't leave you hanging, Calia. Not while you still need me." Giving aid to others formed a basic tenet in his bloodline. "And I'll never willingly align with someone I can't trust." And he couldn't imagine putting his faith in someone on the opposing side.
She eased away from him. "You're taking the message too literally, Falco. Don't negate my gift because you don't like what it says." Moving to the bed, she stripped the sheets off and dropped them by the laundry bin.
Her jerky movements spoke louder than her tone. He'd hurt her and the kick of remorse hit him squarely in the chest. She didn't deserve his skepticism or his doubt.
Crossing the floor, he grasped her shoulders from behind. "I'm sorry. I'm being a dick and you don't need that right now." Especially when staying calm and happy helped maintain her balance.
Calia leaned against him. "You're right. I don't." Turning to face him, she met his gaze. "But I do understand. You've been at loose ends for a while now—even though you're busier than ever—and you've felt the shift. You know something is coming."
Falco sighed. "I'm going to be at the center of it, aren't I?" So much getting out ahead of things.
Calia gave a slight shrug. "That one I can't answer, but I can say you're going to be following the path intended for you. The journey will be easier if you don't fight the current." Wrapping her arms around him, she rested her forehead against his chest. "That's not easy for you; you question everything. Please try to remember my advice, because you'll need to be strong and steady."
He gave her a solid hug then stepped away. "Can't promise anything, but I'll do my best." He strode toward the living room and grabbed his jacket. "Usual time in two weeks?" Zipping the coat, he arched a brow.
She gave a small nod. "I'll be here."
Falco made it halfway home before he realized she'd said here instead of ready. A small change to their usual farewell, but one that boded something different on the horizon.
The idea didn't sit well in his mind.
Calia's small change to their farewell is definitely an omen, even if Falco isn't quite ready to accept it.

That's it for this week.
Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: On the Circuit
It's been a wild and busy week! I'm buried with work projects, which I'm thrilled to have—even if I could use about four more hours in each day. Good problems to have.
Had a slower than normal television viewing week, but I kind of expect that when I'm trying to keep plates spinning with work and only have a small wobble here and there.
I caught two episodes of Hawkeye and I'm kind of bummed there's only one left. I'm loving this show a lot.
Caught the season three premiere of Harrow and I already intensely dislike the new boss. That said, I kind of love the shifting dynamics of the character relationships. Fern could grow up just a little, but I like where everyone else is for the most part.
Watched another episode of Blue Heelers and liked the way everything played out. Really good case of the week on this one.
Enjoyed another MasterClass lesson with Neil de Grasse Tyson. Learned about cognitive bias and have a much better understanding of how that works.
Caught another episode of Young Wallander: Killer's Shadow. Poor Kurt gets his ass kicked on a regular basis. Glad to see Reza get bumped up to detective. Poor Rusk has a lot going on at the moment.
Got two more episodes of Classic Rugrats in and thoroughly enjoyed. I love the call outs to stuff from my younger years. That's why the original show is genius. Enjoyable for parents and kids.
Watched another episode of Chicago Med and things got interesting at the end. Not sure I'm down with Will possibly hooking up with Agent Lee. Really kind of squicked out by Nat's involvement with the dad of her former patient. But I love the whole saga of Daniel's ex and everything that's going on with that.
Enjoyed another episode of The Snoopy Show. I like how the short vignettes are themed around a topic. This one had Halloween stuff and it was a lot of fun.
Caught another episode of Loch Ness and I'm kind of amazed how things are moving forward but at what seems like a maddeningly slow pace. A couple of big reveals in this episode.
Finished up season seventeen of Silent Witness and should start eighteen this week. Have to say I quite liked how this one ended. Glad Jack will be sticking around.
Watched another episode of Classic Who. Poor Seven just doesn't have a lot to work with. That said, I'm kind of enjoying this arc.
Enjoyed another episode of The Laundry Guy. I think I could honestly watch multiple seasons of this show. Patric needs his own YouTube channel. I'd totally subscribe.
Also watched another episode of The Hardy Boys and have a lot of love for this show. It's so much fun to talk to my brother about the episodes after we see them. Brings back a lot of eighties memories.
That's it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from On the Circuit, a novella that features dragon rodeos and two bull-fighting characters that keep the riders safe.
Here's the mini-blurb:
The popularity of breaking dragons on the rodeo trail lures Reggie Pitch to test her mettle as a bullfighter. She works her way up from green recruit and tries out for the big show with Dwight Merlyn as her trainer, which proves intimidating because not only is he attractive as hell, he's a third generation handler and his family breeds the rankest, meanest beasts on the circuit.
And a preview snippet…
Dwight arrived at the bar and scanned the room for Reggie. "Not here yet. Good." He needed time to come down from the high of facing down rank bulls for the last several hours.
The rodeo owner, Jeb McCallister, signaled Dwight over to the counter. Dwight ambled over, ready for anything. Jeb had a lock on the circuit in this area. He owned the arena, the bar, and most of the supply shops. He also had shares in the crew quarters and family housing.
The dragons were the only thing the man didn't have a financial interest in … Dwight's family had full control of the stock and breeding of the beasts. What started out as a relationship of necessity between the two clans had turned into lifelong friendship—at least for three generations. Dwight respected the hell out of Jeb, even when he butted into Dwight's personal life.
Jeb tapped the wood surface. "Get this man a shot."
Mathis, the bartender and one of Jeb's brothers, poured amber liquid into a glass. "Hell of night out there. New bull fighter is coming along." He slid the tumbler toward Dwight.
Dwight gave a nod. "Yeah, she's got some chops." He downed the drink.
Jeb snorted. "Hell, she's got more than that. That little slip of a woman put on one hell of a show." He leaned his forearms on the bar. "She gonna stick around?"
He left the real part of the question unasked. Would Reggie follow Nordstrom?
Dwight inclined his head. "Far as I know. She gave Nordstrom the boot right after you did." His lips curved when he remembered how well she'd handled that scene.
Jeb cocked his head to one side. "Tread carefully, my boy." The warning tone had humor laced through it.
Dwight huffed out a breath. "Always do." He spied Reggie enter and pushed away from the bar. "But I appreciate the advice." He lifted his chin. "Even if I don't plan on taking it."
Jeb and Mathis rolled their eyes. Dwight didn't care. He'd pretty much made up his mind to let nature take its course with Reggie. If they ended up twisted around each other, so be it.
He could question the choice later.
I love this story so much! As a rodeo fan, I'm challenged by writing the scenes with the dragons, but moments like the preview are fun to dig into.

That's it for this week.
Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: On Ice
To everyone celebrating a holiday, I hope it's incredible and lovely. To everyone not celebrating a holiday, I hope your weekend is incredible and lovely.
Had a crazy-busy week with a lot of distractions. I got a lot of work done but felt like I kept spinning my wheels, mainly because I'd get interrupted and have to review a lot so I didn't miss anything.
Kind of a slow week of television viewing. I watched two episodes of The Snoopy Show and rather enjoyed both. I'll definitely finish the season that's available.
Caught the second episode of Loch Ness and I'm pretty hooked. There's a lot going on and sometimes doesn't feel like anything is related, but I'm pretty sure there's one single thread that will pull everything together.
Watched two more episodes of Silent Witness. I like getting a little more information on Jack's backstory. He's an interesting character but kind of mysterious.
Finished up an arc of Classic Who and started a new one. Seven kind of gets a raw deal and I'm still not quite sure about Mel. The weird way she got introduced kind of throws me off.
Enjoyed two episodes of The Laundry Guy and have to say this is such a cool show. I don't know if they'll do more episodes, but I'm totally in if they do.
Caught another episode of Hawkeye. I'm very interested in how they're exploring the Ronin angle. I haven't watched all the movies yet but I'm kind of current on what happened. Nice to see a little more detail about this aspect of Clint's character.
Watched the first episode of The Hardy Boys second season. A little disappointed they recast Fenton, but I love the actor who's taken on the role. I'm definitely interested in the new mystery and can't wait to watch more.
Started season eight of Peak Practice. A lot of changes with the move to the new building and a great case of the week. Feels like there might be a lot more drama with rescues and stuff this season.
Enjoyed another MasterClass lesson with Neil deGrasse Tyson. Asking questions is something I wish more people did on a regular basis, especially when mis or disinformation is now the standard.
Caught another episode of Young Wallander: Killer's Shadow. Kurt is kind of walking a fine line and I really do not like the new boss and how he's trying to get rid of Rusk. My one hope is Kurt's friendship with Rez better not go up in flames.
Watched another episode of the Ready Room and thoroughly enjoyed it. Getting to know the actress playing L'Rell was a lot of fun.
Enjoyed an episode of Chicago Med and I liked getting to see Daniel's ex-wife. I'm a little confused because it almost seemed like Robin is his only kid, but I'm certain he had another daughter in an earlier season. Maybe I missed something.
Caught another episode of Cuffs and, again, really enjoyed the character dynamics. I'm beginning to like Jo a lot and I'm still not quite certain what the hell the chief detective has going on in his life aside from the horrible relationship with his dad.
That's pretty much it for television this week. Tonight's post is from On Ice, a novella that has the main characters at odds over how to handle their current situation.
Here's the mini-blurb:
A battle is brewing between opposing magical factions and Paley Knoff and Birk Southampton are charged with readying their troops. Paley thinks Birk is taking the threat too seriously and when he ignores her in favor of adding more training, she pushes him a little too far, leaving him no choice but to put her on ice until she remembers who's in charge.
And a preview snippet…
Paley stomped into the rooms she mostly shared with Birk. "Damn man can't see the forest for the trees." And he'd probably fell the entire acreage if he thought he could prove a point.
Flopping onto the sofa, she kicked her feet up. At least one other person, namely Mabel, understood how mind-numbing repetition could be. Did anyone actually think Janus would neat and orderly during a battle?
Hell, no.
She had to make Birk see reason.
He entered their space and dropped down into the chair across from her. "That was quite a display earlier." Leaning back, he propped his elbow on the arm. "But you made a valid point."
Her gaze narrowed. "Atwater didn't back me, so it's moot."
Birk tilted his head to one side. "Not like he completely shot you down either. What's really going on with you?" His gaze narrowed as if that would give him the answer.
She rolled her eyes. "Nothing's going on. I'm tired of playing catch-up. We don't have time for anything other than training and teaching." She huffed out a breath. "You've heard of work-life balance, right?" Geez, now she sounded like a bratty child.
Birk straightened. "Ah. I get it now." He slid off the chair and walked on his knees toward the sofa. "Your impatience is double-sided." His hands gripped her thighs. "Why don't we do something to recharge?" He leaned in close, his breath fanning across her cheek.
She shuddered a little. It had been weeks since they'd had time to do more than fall into bed. And … he might be in a better frame of mind to see things from her perspective.
She fisted her hand in his shirt. "What do you have in mind…" Her voice lowered to a husky timbre.
His lips ghosted over her throat. "We'll take the night. Just you and me. No distractions or interruptions." He cupped her face. "We could start with a long shower for round one."
Her blood warmed. "Round one?" She liked the sound of that and let go of his shirt, patting his chest.
Birk nodded. "Absolutely. Followed by at least two more." He eased back and got to his feet then held out his hand.
Paley grasped his palm and rose from the cushions. "I'm gonna hold you to that." She started in the direction of the bathroom with Birk dogging her heels.
The calm before the storm can be a lot of fun and Paley definitely takes advantage.

That's it for this week.
Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: Old Wounds
More weird weather this week. And some great news for the daughter. She ended up with three scholarships and two awards for her sophomore year. Amazing!
Solid work week with ongoing edits on two projects. I'm doing some new nonfiction work and I'm enjoying it so much.
Pretty good week of television also. I finished up the second season of Snoopy in Space: The Search for Life. I'd be happy if they did another run of episodes with this show.
Caught an episode of Cuffs and actually enjoyed it a lot even though the personal lives of the characters are all falling apart.
Watched two episodes of Silent Witness. I'm beginning to really enjoy Jack's tenaciousness. He won't let go when his hunches are biting down hard.
Enjoyed two episodes of Classic Who. I'd forgotten how the quality of the show suffered so much during Seven's tenure, which isn't a bash on the actors. They do an excellent job considering what they're given to work with.
Finished up Aliens in Alaska and really enjoyed the season. Wouldn't mind if they did more later.
Caught two episodes of Hawkeye and I'm sold. Love the interaction between the characters and enjoy the overarching plot point. Great show.
Finished up the second season of Harrow and I enjoyed it so much. One thing that really hits hard is the fact that Harrow has now murdered two people and as much as I love the character, I kind of want him to suffer some consequences for his actions. We'll see if season three offers any up for him.
Watched the Peak Practice season seven finale. Looks like some big changes for the next season with a new location for the practice. I'm looking forward to seeing where things go.
Started a quirky series with The Laundry Guy. Enjoyed seeing what he uses to bring stained items back to life. I'm definitely going to learn a lot from this show.
Caught an episode of Blue Heelers and enjoyed it. Really feeling the topic of the week vibes during this season, but it's not deal-breaking.
Consumed another MasterClass with Neil deGrasse Tyson and liked learning about the scientific method. As with Nye, Tyson has a way of putting information out there that doesn't make me feel stupid.
Watched another episode of Young Wallander: Killer's Shadow. I'm very invested in this season already and I kind of love where things are going.
Enjoyed two more episodes of Classic Rugrats. This rewatch definitely lets me find my happy place.
Also caught another episode of Chicago Med and I'm kind of still hating the new head of the ED. We'll see if that continues. I love that Rhodes is actually on to Ava and isn't really being duped … yet.
That's pretty much it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from Old Wounds, a novella that has the characters going through a terrible experience and one has to revisit a painful part of their past to help the other.
Here's the mini-blurb:
When Abbot Isley's father lies near death, Nixie Grimm is willing to open old wounds to help him cope. Taking a trip down memory lane is not her favorite thing, but Abbot's steadfast support triggers a healing process she didn't know she needed and lets her move forward—with Abbot.
And a preview snippet…
Nixie's heart ached. She loved the old man, too. And he's all Abbot has left.
She wanted to ask so many questions. In fact, she had to bite her tongue to keep her mouth shut. She held back because she'd react with violence if Abbot pushed her when she needed space and she wouldn't force him to speak until he wanted to.
Even if his silence killed her.
When they dumped the keys in the drop box, he finally started talking. "This so-called lead? Nothing but a dick move to get us away from the estate." He led the way, going behind the service area of the rental office where they'd project back home.
Nixie cursed softly. "Dammit. They're playing hard ball now." Which meant the council would have to start hitting back.
No more kid gloves and quiet poking around.
Abbot stopped by the ancient oak and drew a protective circle around them. "Can you get us home? I don't have the bandwidth right now." His eyes closed and he swayed to the side.
Nixie steadied him, grabbing his bicep. "I got this." Meeting his gaze, she asked one question. "Home or the healing chamber?"
Abbot didn't hesitate. "Chamber. He might not have long."
She spoke the incantation and projected them to the sacred grotto at the far end of the healing rooms. "Leave the bags. I'll come for them later." Not waiting, she led the way out of the stone-walled alcove and worked her way through the throng of council members standing in the corridor.
Abbot followed and the crowd dispersed, parting to let them through. Nixie didn't like the somber faces or the hushed conversations. She didn't dare look back to Abbot, afraid she'd lose the fragile calm she'd worked to hold on to.
Abbot paused beside the head healer, Barton Wence. "What's happening?"
Barton shook his head. "The news is grave. Isaac is near death and there's a good chance he won't make it." He drew Abbot into the alcove and continued. "The magic poison is wrapped in several layers of spells and if we counter in the wrong order—"
Abbot cut him off. "I know that. Tell me what you're doing right now."
Nixie winced at the angry tone but didn't blame Abbot for being impatient. Barton could be frustrating when a life didn't hang in the balance. To do so now bordered on stupidity.
They didn't have the patience to deal with a bunch of inane platitudes. And Isaac didn't have the time for muddled mutterings.
Nixie nudged Barton along. "Look, start with what you've done since Abbot got the call."
I'm very happy with how this story is coming along. The sages are giving me the flow in small bits and pieces but I love where things are going.

That's it for this week.
Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: Numb
Nothing like starting April with snow flurries and chilly weather. Prom weekend for the high schoolers ended up being very brisk. Brrrr.
Had a very busy work week but I made a ton of progress on a difficult edit. It's something kind of new for me and I'm thoroughly enjoying the project. Had a couple of great calls for some possible new work also. All in all a productive week.
Had a decent week of viewing television also. I'm more or less back on my regular schedule, which makes me happy.
Caught two episodes of Silent Witness. I'm very much liking the new season. Clarissa is fast becoming a favorite and they're not shoving the new guy in my face all the time. All in all, I'm still loving this show.
Finished up season twenty-three of Classic Who and started season twenty-four. I'd forgotten the weird way they morphed from Six to Seven. I actually might not have seen that one. Almost finished with the original run and then I have to decide if I'm going to start a rewatch of New Who. I might wait a while.
Watched two more episodes of Aliens in Alaska. I have one more to watch then it's on to something new. I might dive into something more space-related again. I'm not sure yet.
Enjoyed two more episodes of Muppets Now. I should have this finished up this week then I'll have to decide what to watch next. I might dive into the Marvelverse. I've been wanting to watch Hawkeye.
Caught two episodes of Harrow. Man, this season is a roller coaster. I have no clue what the hell is going on with Maxine but I'm not liking it. I love, love, love the kind of new dynamic with Fairley and I like the new assistant. I also enjoy the whole Daniel and Grace being unable to find their footing. Good stuff.
Watched an episode of Peak Practice and enjoyed it. I'll have this season finished up this week and should be ready to start season eight.
I started a new MasterClass with Neil deGrasse Tyson. I'm enjoying the way he explains things. Should be a very interesting class.
Finished the first season of Young Wallander and started the second. I gotta say I shouldn't have been surprised with how the first season ended but I was. That said, I loved the opening episode of season two. Kurt is a magnet for strange cases.
Enjoyed two episodes of Classic Rugrats. One of my favorites with Grandpa moving out followed by the legend of Satchmo made me really happy. One of the best things about the original show is how much grown-ups could enjoy the episodes right along with the little ones.
Caught two episodes of Chicago Med and, sadly, Will is beginning to annoy the crap out of me. Ethan is probably my favorite doctor even if he's a bit rigid sometimes. Not sure I like where they're taking April, but I'll hold judgment on that front for now.
Watched an episode of Snoopy in Space: The Search for Lifeand I'm down to having one more left. I'll have to decide what to watch next once I finish this series.
I started a new mystery, Loch Ness, and enjoyed the first episode. This one could go either way so I'm hoping it keeps my attention.
Also enjoyed another episode of Blue Heelers and liked it. I do not enjoy Monica but this one seemed to set up some stuff for the future so that might be fun to watch.
Began the Ready Room episodes for the second season of Star Trek: Discovery. Rather enjoyed the first one and I'll look forward to watching more.
And that's pretty much it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from Numb, a novella where the characters are in crisis mode and kind of numb to everything going on.
Here's the mini-blurb:
Cyan Fitch and Theron Dibney have a great relationship—hot sex, rock solid friendship, and mutual respect. When a mostly lethal virus tears through their community, the couple works side by side to help as many as possible, but it takes a toll. They can't quite get comfortably numb while they face the devastating losses and neither is willing to bend for fear they'll break.
And a preview snippet…
Theron paced the length of the corridor outside Ciara's lab. The runes barred entrance and anger replaced the numbness he'd carried for months.
His hand slapped against the wall. "I can't and won't let Cyan go." The possibility of losing her wrecked him. "I've got one shot to make this happen."
He astral-projected into the council chambers … unannounced.
The head elder sputtered out an objection. "What do you think you're doing? You can't just barge in here. There are protocols you need to follow."
Theron waved a hand. "I don't have time. Cyan's life hangs in the balance and the answer to the cure is in her mother's lab." He met the elder's gaze. "Remove the runes."
The elder shook his head. "That's not possible. For all we know, Ciara's lab is ground zero. No one gets access." He folded his hands in front of him.
The other sages remained silent, bowing to the elder's decision.
Theron snorted. "Bullshit. Her lab isn't ground zero. This chamber is. And each of you bears the responsibility for the decimation of our people." He paced again, throwing decorum out the window. "The twelve of you are the reason the bio-curse got unleashed." He hoped like hell Ciara's message didn't prove to be wrong.
A collective gasp came from the semicircle, answering that question. They knew. Every damn one of them.
Theron snarled a curse. "It's time to pull your heads out of your asses and face this challenge. Let me get what we need to save lives." Especially Cyan's.
The elder shook his head. "Ciara went rogue and called on the dark arts. We can't risk having the cure tainted with black magick." He cast a glance to his counterparts and they agreed with murmurs of assent.
Theron made a low growl. "No, what you mean is you can't risk the truth coming out. Pretty damn convenient to use Ciara as the excuse to block progress, especially when she turned to unconventional sources to find a cure and they revealed the ugly certainty of your culpability." He got a kick of satisfaction when half the semicircle blanched at his knowledge of their guilt.
A lone female sage slowly rose. "You're using guesswork to fill in blanks. You don't have the whole truth."
The elder snapped. "That's enough, Larkin. You don't have consent to say more."
Theron pushed his advantage. "She doesn't have to. The whole truth doesn't matter when lives are being lost." He moved forward and met the gaze of each council member. "And know this … If you continue to sit back and do nothing, I'll lead the charge to revolt and remove every last one of you from the sanctuary of this chamber. You're not out there trying to save people and helping them bury their dead. I am. Cyan was. And if she dies, nothing will keep the survivors from turning on you." He paused a moment. "Choose wisely and make it fast." The clock continued to tick against Cyan.
After several long moments of telepathic communication, the elder finally inclined his chin. "Access to Ciara's lab is granted. We'll discuss your grandstanding threats once a cure has been found."
Theron gave a nod. "You're damn right we will. I'll look forward to having that conversation." He faded back out and entered Ciara's lab.
There would be a reckoning, all right. And the council would be on the receiving end.
But first, he needed to make sure Cyan lived to help fight that battle.
I love this story and I'm excited about finishing it up. There's something about going through the motions because nothing else can be done until a wake-up call hits hard that appeals to me.

That's it for this week.
Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: Nowhere Good
Another busy week with multiple projects on the all burners. I've been doing oracle card readings every morning and, based on what I'm seeing, things won't be slowing down anytime soon. I'm totally okay with that.
We had a few lovely days of spring before winter came roaring back. Two days in the mid-thirties with rain and flurries. Bleh. Then again, when I'm still wearing shorts and flip-flops in October, I'll try to remember being cold in March.
Not a bad week of television viewing. I'm kind of off-schedule, but that happens sometimes. I have a couple of movies and musical specials I want to watch and that might swing things back to my usual show cycle.
I started the week with Star Trek: Discovery and, ugh, I got very emotional. I've got one final episode, I think, of season two and then I might dive into the Ready Room to get some insider details.
Caught two episodes of Chicago Med and I kind of like the tension building between everyone. Sad to see Will and Nat's wedding not happen and I really disliked the FBI agent overseeing him. Not sure how I feel about the whole Rhodes dynamic. But, knowing what I know about what happens later, it'll prove interesting to see how it all unfolds.
Watched two episodes of Snoopy in Space: The Search for Life. I'm still enjoying the science stuff mixed in with the antics of Snoopy and Woodstock. I'm always kind of in my happy place after I watch the short features.
I liked the Cuffs episode this week. There's a good mix of humor and drama in this show and I enjoy the partner dynamics. The detective stories are a blend of weird and gritty and I like those angles also.
Enjoyed two episodes of Silent Witness. Finished up the second episode of a two-parter and it didn't go in the direction I thought it would. I love when that happens. Started a new two-parter and it's kind of intense, which I like. The detective is a bit of a hard ass and that kind of annoys me, but it's good drama.
I'm almost finished with Classic Who season twenty-three. As expected, the Master made an appearance. I'm a little wobbly on the whole Doctor's darker side thing, but it's an interesting concept and gets a little work-in during the New Who series episodes.
Caught two more episodes of Aliens in Alaska and I like getting a bit of an education about the remote central interior of the state and the smaller towns. The UFO and alien stuff is just gravy.
Watched two more episodes of Muppets Now. This version of the show is growing on me and I like the repeat appearances by a couple of the guest stars along with one or two new ones that pop in. Of course, I love the Muppet Labs field testing, probably my favorite skit of the new version.
Harrow is really amping up the tension. I'm still so angry they killed off one of my favorite characters but I like how it makes Harrow do some soul-searching. I have no clue what the hell Maxine is doing but I hope there's a good reason for it. The one character that annoys me still annoys me so no change there.
Enjoyed another episode of Peak Practice. We're moving into the trauma of the week style and I'm kind of okay with that. There's enough carry through from previous episodes it still feels like the same show. I'm almost finished with season seven and I'm still liking the show.
Finished up MasterClass with Es Devlin. I thoroughly enjoyed her lessons and actually have some good information to apply to my work. Should be starting a new class this week and I'm planning on going with another science series.
Caught two episodes of Young Wallander and, wow, this show hits hard sometimes. I kind of guessed about who really had a hand in the killings and I'm glad that played out the way I thought it would. I won't rule out another twist though. I'm kind of expecting one.
I started season three of Classic Rugrats and watched several episodes. A couple are probably in my top five for this season—at least until I watch more.
Finished up Queens of Mystery with the final Behind the Scenes bonus. I'm actually glad I did watch because I wondered if they'd recast the lead character and they had. I might need to revisit so I have the details straight but the recast is fairly seamless.
Also watched another episode of Blue Heelers and really enjoyed it. Nice to get some additional backstory about Nick. I'm also such a fan of Chrissy and Adam's relationship. I hope that lasts for a while.
That's pretty much it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from Nowhere Good, a novella that takes a couple on a journey to find their happy place.
Here's the mini-blurb:
After wiping out a rival fae faction, Adrian Stock plants a hot kiss on Shaun Henrickton, a fellow enforcer, and their world tilts sideways. They've got custom and ritual, protocol, and baggage between them and if they cave to their baser feelings, the outcome can't go anywhere good.
And a preview snippet…
Shaun's world tilted sideways and spun backward.
I'm kissing Adrian. What the hell is going on?
He didn't care. Her mouth moved under his and his brain fizzled, short-circuited, and fried on contact. Nothing mattered but her lips and his staying together for the foreseeable future.
Geez, she has a hot mouth.
Hot. Fire. Burned. Shit!
Shaun broke the kiss. "Damn. We need to get you looked at and make sure the sirens are okay." He caught one side of her face in his hand. "You're shivering and possibly in shock." Argh … he sounded stupid, didn't he?
Yep. Adrian blinked and her eyes narrowed. She went into shutdown mode.
Fuck. Their timing sucked. He'd give anything to sit her down and figure out what just happened between them.
He shrugged out of his coat and draped it over her shoulders. "Adrian, I'm not sorry that happened. We just need to get out of here and report back." The sirens were vulnerable and his dick could not do the thinking right now.
Adrian tucked her injured arm up close to her chest and tightened his jacket with her good hand. "Fine. Yeah, you're right." She shuddered again.
Pissed off at himself for breaking the intimate moment and ruining a promising start, he wanted to smack himself for being so abrupt. He'd been completely unprepared for the surge of want and need she brought up and out of him. They didn't acknowledge the simmering attraction between them … for too many reasons to count. But the kiss changed everything. At the worst possible time.
She didn't need a slavering idiot right now. She needed comfort, because fire and Adrian did not get along. Funny how being trapped and tortured in a burning building could do that to a person. Not to mention losing a brother in the process. She hated dealing with fire creatures.
Gently, Shaun guided her toward the group of very young men and women gathered in the middle of the parking lot well away from the warehouse. The low hum emanating from the former hostages circled them in waves of calming energy. When Shaun and Adrian approached, the tune changed to a welcoming song.
Shaun paused before going further and met Adrian's gaze. "You good? Probably need about thirty minutes to get the sirens to a safe house." He could go it alone, but didn't want to.
Adrian blinked and squared her shoulders. "I'm solid. Better let me wrangle while you patrol ahead." She schooled her features and slipped her game face on.
Shaun caught the attention of the oldest siren. "Barth?" The guy nodded and Shaun lifted his chin. "We're going to get you to safety. We'll travel on foot to a secure location." He looked over the group. "Is everyone whole? No injuries?"
Everyone shook their heads.
Adrian stepped up. "I'm Adrian and I'll be keeping you shielded from any tracers trying to track you. Shaun is going to scout ahead and make sure we're clear. I'll be in contact with Shaun and all you need to do is keep me in your sight." Moving to stand in the middle of the group, she motioned for them to circle around her. "If I stop, you stop. My shielding will hold and protect you as long as we're all together."
Shaun met Adrian's gaze. "Give me a twenty count then follow. I'll reach out if I encounter anything." Anything else he wanted to say would have to wait.
Adrian inclined her head. "Twenty count. Got it." She muttered an incantation and a ball of light appeared then expanded to surround the group.
When the brightness faded, Shaun started out and made a left out of the parking lot. He'd go up a block then cut through the park—unless something nasty decided to rear its ugly head. Adrian would adjust accordingly if that happened. She knew the routes as well as he did.
She knows everything as well as I do.
Except maybe how to handle the seismic shift that just happened between them.
I love the vibes from this scene. Shaun is all over the map but finally focuses on the work even though he wants nothing more than to take care of Adrian—not that he won't try later.

That's it for this week.
Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: Nothing Special
Super-heavy workload this week. I'm actually thrilled to be scheduling on my planner again, color-codes and everything. It's been a while since I've had to use a hard copy for keeping track of my projects. I like being busy.
Had a bit of limited viewing time this week. More so from having a bout of insomnia and taking naps at weird times during the day.
I watched an episode of Star Trek: Discovery and I love how things are coming together. There's been so much packed into this season and I'm amazed by the storytelling. This is such a good show.
Watched two episodes of Chicago Med. Gotta say Will gets himself into some tricky situations. I'm kind of annoyed with the FBI agent being such a drama queen over everything. Also feel terrible for Rhodes. Between having his dad on the board and the new ED doctor, he's got a lot on his plate.
Caught another episode of Snoopy in Space: The Search for Life. This is such a great show for young science nerds who love anything to do with space.
Enjoyed another episode of Cuffs. I'm kind of intrigued by the various relationships and I quite like how they intercut the scenes. I'm liking this one.
Watched two episodes of Classic Who. We're getting close to the end of the season and I have sneaky suspicion the Master is going to rear his ugly mug at some point. Should be interesting to see if I'm right.
Finished up season sixteen of Silent Witness and, yep, we lost Leo. So sad to see his end. Kind of wish Harry had come back for that but I loved Nikki's eulogy. Started seventeen and, eh, not sure I like the new guy. Jury is out on that one.
Caught two episodes of Aliens in Alaska. I love getting into what people see and how the experience shapes them afterward. This is a good show.
Started Muppets Now and I kind of like it after watching two episodes. They've brought back some older characters and it's a very updated and modernized variety style. Fun stuff.
Watched two more episodes of Harrow and, dammit, they killed off one of my favorites. I'd actually like to see one of the other characters go but won't hold my breath on that one. I really enjoy the dynamic between Harrow and Fairley's niece. The blending of the case of the week and overarching mystery works well with this show.
Got an episode of Peak Practice in and it was a sad one but with other happy moments woven in. Loved the ending with the new doctor grieving with Joanna.
Caught two more MasterClass lessons with Es Devlin. I love how she covers scope when she talks about design. She's done some very interesting work and I'm learning a lot from watching her classes.
Watched two episodes of Young Wallander. It's a little uncanny how closely the plot line mirrors stuff going on right now and this show is set in Sweden. I love the lead in this one. He's understated and quiet but actually kind of funny and deep also.
Enjoyed two episodes of Classic Rugrats. I should be close to the end of season two and getting ready to start on three. I love revisiting this show. I'm pretty sure they leave out a few of the best episodes when they run encores of this.
Caught a bonus short for Queens of Mystery. The recap of season one had some pings that I'll look forward to playing out in season three, especially the ones that weren't solved in season two.
Last but not least, I watched another episode of Blue Heelers. An interesting dive into coming home after being gone for a long time and how some people don't wear or show their feelings for everyone to see.
That's pretty much it for this week's life update. Tonight's post is from Nothing Special, a sexy short with characters who become more than friends after exchanging small gifts that are supposed to be tokens of appreciation but end up being so much more.
Here's the mini-blurb:
Masha Tuck and Ryce Reynoldson work tirelessly around the winter solstice to help provide a meaningful celebration to their fae and non-fae neighbors. Masha uncovers the perfect gift for Ryce—just a book, nothing special—but if she gives it to him, it'll add depth to their weird relationship and she's not sure she's ready for them to be a thing.
And a preview snippet…
Ryce scrambled quickly to think of something that wouldn't send her running.
Tapping the book, he got up. "Next should be trying one of the recipes, or more than one. I'm well stocked. Let's have dinner." He thumbed through the book and found a one-skillet main dish.
Masha rose and followed him. "Dinner? As in a sit at a table and eat kind of thing?" Her head tilted to one side and her gaze drifted someplace far away.
Ryce gave a nod. "I know. It's a strange concept to consider, since we're usually grabbing something on the go and stuffing our faces in between stops." He couldn't remember the last time he'd sat down to eat. "Yeah, we'll share a meal … see if the world implodes or anything."
Masha laughed. "You truly get me, don't you?" Pulling out a chair, she settled behind the island separating the kitchen and dining nook. "The whole having a moment with you shakes my foundation." Turning the brooch over in her hands, her lips quirked.
Ryce propped the book open and started pulling out ingredients. "How about you read the instructions and I'll do the hard part." He chuckled when she stuck her tongue out.
Tucking the brooch into her shirt pocket, she spun the text toward her. "Fine. Also a wise choice. My culinary skills go as far as opening a box of cereal and pouring milk over it." She flipped through the pages, keeping her place with her finger. "Hey, this dressing looks kind of yummy." She read off the ingredients.
Ryce opened a cabinet. "I'll make it. I've got the stuff." He pulled out more items and added them to the counter. "See if there's anything appealing for dessert. Maybe something with apples."
She found a recipe for a buckwheat tart and mentioned having something similar when her grandmother used to visit.
He got everything started and roped Masha into helping by cutting up apples and showing her how to whisk the dressing. By the time he had the food ready, she'd set the table, poured water into the glasses, and spooned salad into bowls.
He carried the main dish to the table and nodded for her to grab the dressing.
She sat across from him, inhaling deeply. "Mmmm. Smells divine." Draping a napkin across her lap, she then drizzled dressing over the greens mix.
Ryce dished up the main course and had to agree—the mix of herbs and spices tantalized his senses. "Dig in." He motioned for her to get started.
She shook her head. "Nope. If we're sharing the moment, we need to synchronize our tasting." She scooped some of the food onto her fork and waited until he did the same. "To good food and home-cooked meals." Raising her utensil, she made a toasting gesture.
Ryce laughed. "Here-here." He lifted his fork then carefully timed taking a bite with her movements.
Masha's eyes slid closed and she moaned. "Oh my. This is excellent." Chewing, she gave a nod.
Ryce agreed. The old-world blend had just the right amount of flavor and didn't overwhelm his taste buds. He couldn't wait to try more recipes.
Halfway through another bite, he swallowed and met her gaze. "Thank you. Seriously. I'll be using the book as often as I can."
She smiled. "You're welcome." She glanced away and tucked back into her meal.
Ryce didn't attempt more conversation. Not yet. But he planned to engage her after they finished because he didn't want the evening to end.
I love the quiet depth of feeling between Ryce and Masha. This is a fun story to write.

That's it for this week.
Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: Nothing but the Truth
Another heavy workload this week followed by some snow and really cold temperatures. Of course, we're supposed to be in the seventies by Thursday, which means my sinuses are going to hate me. Fun times.
Had a slower viewing schedule this week with television. Needed to focus on one of my projects to get it finished up in quick fashion.
I did get quite a few of my regular shows watched. Caught two episodes of Snoopy in Space: The Search for Life. One featured information on Europa and the other on Venus. I'm quite enjoying the mix of sciency goodness with the antics of the Peanuts gang.
Started a new-to-me show with Cuffs and liked the first episode. This one should be interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing more.
Got two episodes of Silent Witness in, finishing up a two-parter and starting another. I'm very curious about how this will end as the next show will be the season sixteen finale. I'm a little worried about Leo.
Enjoyed two episodes of Classic Who. I'm kind of dizzy with the loss of Peri and a new companion rolled into the overarching main story. I'm still a fan of how this season is playing out though.
Completed the last episode of The Alaska Triangle and rather enjoyed the focus on a haunted fairground. I wouldn't mind seeing more from this region of Alaska.
Finished up The Muppets and have to admit I really ended up enjoying the season. I'm not sure if I'll start a new muppet series or move on to some of the Marvel universe shows.
I started season two of Harrow and, wow, it got off with a big bang. I'm very intrigued about how the main mystery is going to play out. I like having a case of the week mixed with the background intrigue of who wants Daniel dead.
Enjoyed an episode of Peak Practice and like the sort of slow burn going on with Andrew and the receptionist. I have a feeling that could go to some interesting places.
I watched two MasterClass lessons with Es Devlin. I love her ideas and insight into putting huge projects together by starting with small-scaled ideas. This shouldn't be confused with the ideas being small, more like imagining them in miniature scale and then creating a huge piece from that.
I watched the last episode of Paranoid and ended up loving this series. The ending wrapped up everything and the evildoers got theirs. Can't ask for more.
Snuck in two episodes of Classic Rugrats. I'm close to finishing up season two and need to decide if I'm going to move up to three or switch over to new Rugrats. Stay tuned.
Caught an episode of Chicago Med and I really, really dislike the new chief of the ED. The guy is a complete ass. Here's hoping he'll get a big helping of something not nice in the near future.
I finished up Queens of Mystery and loved the final episode. Lots of new threads to explore in the next season, which I hope is soon. I even ended up not hating the fiancé by the end. I hope if she'd in the next series, she's a lot less obnoxious.
Started a new series with Aliens in Alaska. I'm not quite ready to let the big state go. So far, I'm enjoying the show and look forward to more.
Caught another episode of Blue Heelers and got a kick out of Hugh Jackman guest-starring as an attorney. Honestly, he hasn't changed much in the thirty years since this show aired. Amazing.
Also started Young Wallander based on a recommendation from my brother. I'm almost through the first episode and, so far, enjoy it. Season two came out recently so I have some good stuff to look forward to.
That's pretty much it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from Nothing but the Truth, a novella where the characters make a silent pact to be honest with each other because their work involves subterfuge and lies on a regular basis.
Here's the mini-blurb:
Lexa Chan and Quint Maximoff work the seedy underworld of supernatural bounty hunting. Lexa's got a tough as nails reputation and she competes with Quint's larger than life persona. The Halfway, a bar catering to supernatural and mortal beings, is neutral ground where Lexa and Quint form an interesting relationship.
And a preview snippet…
Quint loved the way her heated gaze traveled over him. He had several long-healed wounds—a jagged, narrow slice from a blade, a bullet hole, and a pepper of marks from the damage a screwdriver did to his torso. None erased the naked desire in her eyes.
She licked her lips. "Hmm … where to start?" She trailed a finger from his sternum to his waistline before sliding off his lap to unbutton and zip his pants.
Lowering to the floor, she wrestled his fatigues past his hips. He helped by toeing off his boots and kicking them aside while she finished dragging the fabric off his legs and shoving it aside. Her warm fingers circled his shaft and she leaned in, brushing her thumb over the head.
She got a good look at his dick. "Mmmm. Gotta say my imagination didn't do this justice." She glanced up, a sexy smile curving her lips. "I'm going to enjoy this."
Her mouth slid over the tip of his cock and his head fell back. "Aw, fuck. That's good." Damn, pleasurable didn't begin to describe the magic her mouth worked.
She made a humming sound but didn't lose focus. Her lips and tongue kept a steady pressure on his erection and her fingers fondled his balls. She tugged the orbs lightly and his thighs flexed with reaction. He fought the urge to thrust deep and hard. Definitely don't want this to end too soon.
Lexa eased back and swirled her tongue around the head, flicking the underside with rapid strokes. An undercurrent of need and want swelled along his veins and he almost lost the battle for control. His fingers plunged through her hair and his hips lurched upward.
A breath hissed out from between his teeth. "Not like this. I want you to ride me to a finish." He hooked a hand under her shoulder and hauled her upward.
She used one hand to unfasten her bra and the other to shove her leggings past her hips. "Like minds and all that." Her breathing burst out in ragged pants.
Quint helped get her legs free then slid two fingers along her folds, meeting wet, silky essence. He couldn't wait any longer. Grasping her hip, he tugged her forward to straddle his lap. She lifted her butt and sank over him in one, slow movement until his groin met the apex of her thighs.
Heat enveloped his hard length and his head dropped back on the cushions. "Holy balls of fire. You feel good wrapped around me." He didn't want to move, not yet. His brain needed to catch up with his body.
Lexa's eyes slid closed and she moaned. "This is gonna be hard and fast. I can't go slow right now." Her hips rocked and she shuddered.
Quint took one of her hands and braced it on his shoulder. "Ride me, Lexa." He grasped her waist and urged her forward.
Her fingers dug into his skin, her nails scraping the flesh. He didn't care. He wouldn't mind wearing her mark.
And he'd welcome more, as much as she wanted to give.
Lexa and Quint don't think they're in for the long haul, but life has a way of proving people wrong.

That's it for this week.
Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: Not on the Same Page
Man, when it rains, it pours. My workload got intense this week, which I'm not complaining about, more shaking my head in wonderment. I either need to schedule things better or find more hours in the day. LOL
Had a decent week of television viewing even with the added projects. I caught two episodes of Classic Who. I think I'm about halfway through the trial season and it's actually pretty good.
Watched two episodes of The Alaska Triangle. Creatures featured again. I'm fascinated by the legend and lore around the big beasts that strike fear in everyone.
Enjoyed two more episodes of The Muppets. Honestly, I'm close to the end of the season and I'm charmed with the show. Probably good it only had one series, but it's a fun one.
Finished up the first season of Harrow. Gotta admit, I'm a little stunned by how things played out. But what a truly terrific opening season. Can't wait to jump into season two.
Caught an episode of Peak Practice. The new doctor arrived and he's rather interesting. I'll look forward to seeing more of him.
Watched two more lessons of MasterClass with Es Devlin. I quite enjoy listening to her take on how to collaborate with her team and the people they work with. It's very similar to how I approach editing with my authors.
Enjoyed two more episodes of Paranoid. This show is dark and twisty but there's a lot of humor to counter and balance the deep stuff. I'm looking forward to the final episode to see how everything resolves.
Caught two episodes of Classic Rugrats. I love picking up new little things when rewatching the show. And remembering things we picked up from watching the original run and encore episodes.
Watched two more episodes of Chicago Med. Things are getting a bit tense for everyone, which I kind of enjoy. I'm constantly shaking my head at Will, but I love his relationship with Jay. Ethan and April make my brain spin sometimes. Maggie is the most awesome of everyone.
Got in an episode of Snoopy in Space: The Search for Life. I have fun watching these short jaunts into the Peanuts realm.
Enjoyed another episode of Queens of Mystery. The larger mystery of what happened still looms and it's intriguing to see how the sisters react when Mattie gets close to making discoveries.
I also started another two-part Silent Witness. I have a weird feeling this might be Leo's last appearance. I really dislike the spook dude who's going around pulling strings but being a total ass about it. I hope he goes down in the end.
Finished up the two-part Blue Heelers episode and I'm happy to say it's not Wayne's swan song. At least not yet. Great ending to this storyline.
Star Trek: Discovery keeps ramping up the emotional toll on the characters. It's so, so good. I'll be finishing up the second season soon and diving into Picard's second season. I hope I'm not disappointed. I've never been a big fan of Q.
That's pretty much it for the weekly update. Tonight's post is from Not on the Same Page, a novella that separates a couple in love and leads to dire circumstances for one of the characters.
Here's the mini-blurb:
Irini Domaine loves Nathair Sofen but marries another to fulfill a familial obligation. When she suggests carrying on the relationship with Nathair he coldly refuses, which makes Irini vow to slowly but surely convince him otherwise and unknown to her, her life may depend on the connection with Nathair.
And a preview snippet…
You have no right or claim on my slumber, and that was your choice.
He'd caught her off guard with the accusation and now believed she had no idea she invaded his sleeping hours. How could she not? She had power and skill.
Yet … she also hadn't been herself lately. Not since she'd married Braca.
Nathair didn't know what the hell happened to Irini or why she'd started slipping into his dreams. "Doesn't matter. It can't happen again." He gathered his supplies and entered his attic. "I've gotta put a stop to this."
For his sanity and her protection.
He set up for his ritual and cast a circle then settled and closed his eyes. After whispering an incantation, he meditated, going into deep into his subconscious. Erecting barriers took intense concentration and he needed to create strong ones to keep Iri out.
The construction took almost two hours and when he returned to his conscious state, he slumped forward and reached for his water bottle. After draining it, he slowly got to his feet and made his way to the workspace in the corner. Pulling out the chair, he sank down and exhaled slowly.
He dropped his head into his hands. "Maybe now I can rest easy." Or at least get some sleep.
He wouldn't rest easy as long as Irini remained married to Braca. Her burning the wick at both ends would take a toll.
"Mainly on her." He wouldn't be drawn into the fray anymore.
And by removing himself from her nocturnal influence, she might accept the fate she'd agreed to when she walked down the aisle with Norj.
An ache clenched his heart. "Then I can focus on getting on with my life … without her."
Even if he understood her reason for marrying Braca—and he did on a basic level— cutting her father out of her life meant she'd be completely alone. But he couldn't and wouldn't fall in with her plan to carry on an affair, especially one conducted through a dreamscape. How did she really think visiting him while sleeping could work?
Rising, he crossed over to the door, a weight settling between his shoulder blades. "Good-bye, Iri."
Moving down the steps, he couldn't quite shake the dreadful crawl of foreboding creeping down his spine.
This story took a turn I didn't expect but I love the added layer it wraps around the plot.

That's it for this week.
Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: Not Gonna Happen
Whew. It's been a week, right? I finished up several projects and got a couple of new ones lined up. My workload is changing in a lot of ways and I'm happily adapting to the new lineup. Change is good, even when you (meaning me) don't like it. At least that's what I've discovered lately.
Had a very solid week of television viewing. I have something of a pattern and I watch shows on a bit of a schedule. This week everything kind of seemed to speed along.
I ended up getting in three Snoopy in Space: The Search for Life. I'm enjoying the second season of this show. The episodes are pretty short and fun to watch.
Finished up the Queens of Mystery second part and thoroughly enjoyed the episode. I'm a little frustrated by the overarching mystery of Mattie's mom but I'm very willing to give this show a lot of leeway.
Watched three episodes of Silent Witness. The second two-parter ended up being pretty enjoyable. I like the vibe of having the forensic science mixed in with the pathology. After fifteen seasons, it's probably past time to introduce that into the mix.
Enjoyed two more Classic Who episodes. I actually kind of like the format for this season with Six being on trial. It's a nice change of pace and something a little different from the norm.
Caught two more episodes of The Muppets. Weirdly, the show really started to gel for me in the last couple of episodes. It's more inclusive and somewhat similar to the older format. And it's fun.
Watched two more episodes of The Alaska Triangle. I'm very much into the unknown mysteries that haven't been discovered there yet. Dinosaurs, UFOs, weird paranormal encounters. This show has everything.
I'm loving Harrow. I got two more episodes watched and the walls are kind of closing in on the bigger arc of who killed Robert Quinn. I'm kind of excited to see where it ends up.
Caught another episode of Peak Practice and the characters said good-bye to David. It's about halfway through the seventh season and I'm interested in what will follow and what the fallout will be.
Enjoyed two more MasterClass lessons with Es Devlin. She discussed mazes and patterns and the audience and both classes were very interesting. If nothing else, she's given me a new way of looking at projects and I'm here for that.
Got two episodes of Paranoid in and, wow, things are heating up. This is a very twisty and turny mystery and I like how things are playing out. I also love that the three leads are kind of a total mess but still get the job done.
Caught two episodes of Classic Rugrats. While none were my faves, they were great to watch as I'd kind of forgotten them. Nice to be reminded.
Watched two episodes of Chicago Med and I really, really don't like the COO person. As a foil for Sharon, I get the need to have her but, yikes, she's awful, terrible, and rage inducing.
Enjoyed two bonus episodes of The Brokenwood Mysteries. A behind-the-scenes short and an interview with the two leads. I finished out everything that's currently available and I'll have to find a new show to start this week to go along with Queens of Mystery.
Got the first of a two-part Blue Heelers watched. I have a sneaky feeling this might be Wayne's swan song. The episode ended up being better than I expected. Can't wait to finish it next week.
Star Trek: Discovery once again kind of blew my mind. I love the interaction with Spock and Michael. The same goes for Michael and Ash. Actually, all the relationships on this show are amazing. Seriously, amazing.
That's pretty much it for this week's update. Tonight's post is from Not Gonna Happen, a novella that puts my main characters in a tricky situation when they have an unknown entity on their trail.
Here's the mini-blurb:
Gina Ames and Tuck Danvers sign up for a weekend of hunting for an urban legend. When their other team members start dropping, one by one, they take off for the safety of the city. Too bad the concrete and steel can't protect them from what follows them home.
And a preview snippet…
Gina's leg jackhammered under the table and her fingers beat a rapid staccato on the seat. Tuck slid his gaze to the window, gauging how much longer they should wait before they headed for Jake and Marley's. If they didn't go soon, Gina might bounce right out of the booth.
"I gotta pee. Coffee went right through me." She scooted off the bench. "We're outta here as soon as I'm done. Mr. Creepy or no Mr. Creepy." She didn't wait for a reply.
Tuck grunted. "Your call, I guess." Not that he minded—hell, he couldn't take any more inactivity either.
Energy burned through his system and needed an outlet.
She took less than three minutes and Tuck paid the tab with two twenties. Shirl deserved a fat tip for keeping them in food and coffee for two hours.
Gina grabbed her jacket. "Sorry, that was a bitch move, but I can't sit anymore. I gotta do something." Her free hand balled into a fist.
Tuck lifted his chin. "Yeah, I get it." His gaze scanned the buildings across the street. "It's all clear for now. Let's go." He led the way to the exit, giving Shirl a wave before pushing the door open.
The early dawn light fingered through the trees, casting shadows on the sidewalk. Gina stuck close to his side when they crossed the road and started up the block. Jake and Marley had a two-floor condo with a finished basement in a complex several blocks up the street. With luck, they'd get there unscathed.
Gina tugged on his belt loop. "Front or back?"
Good question. If they walked in the front door, they'd stay straight at the corner. If they wanted to enter through the back, they'd turn right and cut down the alleyway. The street-side entrance would leave them less exposed, but the rear gave them some protection if they had to take cover.
He nudged her shoulder. "Back. We'll have less room to maneuver but—"
She finished his statement. "We've got more protection if shit goes sideways."
He nodded. "Right."
Halfway up the block, they dashed across four lanes and ducked into the narrow passage between the condo units and an apartment building. Dumpsters nestled between the garages on the condo side and a waste management truck made its way slowly along the asphalt. Tuck estimated they'd have enough time to get inside Jake and Marley's unit before the vehicle stopped to get their trash.
Gina paused with the key in her hand and rested her head on the door. "Not sure I can do this, Tuck." Her fingers trembled.
He gently took the key, slid it home, and twisted the knob. "We can and will. For Jake and Marley." He pushed the steel door inward, grabbed Gina's hand, and stepped inside their friends' home.
Gina exhaled slowly then let out a gasp. "Son of a bitch."
His gaze snapped to where she pointed and his gut twisted. "Well … that explains it."
I love the dynamic between Tuck and Gina. They've got a dangerous road to travel and they'll have to rely on each other to stay alive.

That's it for this week.
Cheers!
