The Shape-Shifter Archetype

Recognizing the Shape-Shifter

The shape-shifter archetype is a slippery archetype to define. One signature way to know you are in the realm of the shape-shifter is when you have a hard time figuring out who someone is. Just when you have them pegged, they surprise you and show up as someone completely different.

If you have this archetype it is likely that you easily slip into the skin of other archetypes. You probably struggle to define yourself because you feel you are all of the archetypes...

The Visionary Archetype

The Visionary Archetype

The visionary archetype appeals to a lot of people. She is mostly known for her positive qualities of great imagination, forethought, optimism, and creativity. Many of you know her as the black kitty I found under the trailer at a wildlife rescue I worked at because you’ve read my memoir Gracious Wild.

She’s Always Been There

Even though few people have had the benefit of meeting her in person, her elegant and gorgeous spirit changed many lives, mine especially. She was there at the ver...

The Liberator Archetype

The Liberator Archetype

There are countless stories of the liberator archetype throughout history. Look for the prominent revolutionaries turned world leaders that set an entire population free from oppression.

Primary models of the liberator archetype are Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai, and Ghandi. Hundreds of years ago in the United States, numerous liberators were at work freeing African Americans from slavery, President Lincoln being one of the most well known among them. More recently,...

The Slave Archetype

The Slave Archetype

The slave archetype is almost always seen in the shadow. We understand what it means to be utterly under the control of someone else. This control can be so absolute that a person in the clutches of the shadow slave loses her identity altogether. She has no concept of free will.

The slave in the shadow can appear soulless, to have lost all sense of value. A commodity to be passed around and used up, this person is either at or beyond the brink of despair.

Somehow, the slav...
