Obsessed . . .

On Tuesday I read The Hunger Games . . . today I'm reading the second in the trilogy -- Catching Fire.

I am hooked -- possibly obsessed. This is some amazing story telling. And this is why I've not come blog visiting -- well, this and the class I had to meet last night.
First Downton Abbey -- now  The Hunger Games.  Is it possible that I have an addictive personality?
I'll give a full report after I've read the third book... but now I have to get back to the story.

Lily

The fragrance of Oriental lilies is filling the house . . .

A lovely reward for having staggered to the advanced age of 69 . . .  Consider the alternative, as they say . . .
I'm just happy to be here, eating Thai curry, Key Lime pie, and dark chocolate . . .  drinking sparkling wine . . .
And reading The Hunger Games -- wow, what a story! Posted by Picasa

The Week They Tried To . . .

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear -- where to begin?  I attempt to reserve most of my political rants for Facebook but this past week has convinced me that I really need to speak up  here  as well.  Women's rights are endangered on many fronts.

Beginning with the all-male contraception hearing in the House and moving on to Virginia's proposed invasive ultrasound law and pausing for comic relief at the suggestion of Mr. Santorum's money bags backer that all women need for birth control is an aspirin -- held between their knees, one wonders if we've fallen into some ghastly time warp that has sent things back fifty or a hundred years.

It's not just about abortion anymore, folks.  It's about contraception, public education, and prenatal ultrasounds, just for starters. (Santorum opposes all of them.) Sharia law, Roman Catholic dogma, Bible-based morality, Latter Day Saints theology -- they none of them should be the basis of our government. That's what separation of church and state means to me.

You don't want abortion, contraception, public education, prenatal ultrasounds -- fine with me.Don't choose to participate in any of them. But it's not your right to choose for others, based on your own religious views.

I find this picture below of the panel discussing contraception coverage rather chilling, to say the least.

What?

Phil, from a car dealership in L.A. (L.A.!) sent me the following yesterday:

Hi,
I'd like to inquire about doing a sponsored blog post - about 150-300 words that talks a little bit about cars and automobiles and links back to our site. We are a car dealership and thought we might be a good fit for your readers/visitors on http://vickilanemysteries.blogspot.com.

Here's a list of some blog post titles we've done in the past:
- What To Look For When Buying A New Car
- 2012 Cars That Look Good And Saves You Gas
- Reasons Why Buying New Cars Is Better Than Used

Our budget is around $15 for the post. Is this something you'd be open to?

Also we might be interested in a small banner ad if the price is right. Our budget is $40/year.

Let me know if you'd be open to either or both of these.
Now I just wonder what made Phil think that we might be a good fit. Do I have ANY readers in the LA area? Not that I know of.
And what, in his no doubt careful perusal of my blog, made him think I had any expertise or interest in writing about cars?  And for the princely sum of $15 -- dang!  I'm not saying I couldn't be bought but for $15? Give me a break.
I told Phil that I'd no  more take him up on his offer than I'd tattoo his ad on the face of my firstborn.
Haven't heard back from Phil.
