Death of a Character
From my book series' blog, Phoenix Element.
I stumbled across a blog that has some interesting topics for writers to type up. Go take a look, maybe some of those topics will get your muse working again.
Today’s topic: The character you killed. Explain why you removed him/her from the story.
(Answers below are from the events in Phoenix Element: Normality Twisted.Spoilers.)
No one is safe, nor should they be. People die in real life and in fiction everyday. Having major events unfold without any casualties is nothing short of a miracle. It is also a rare occurrence.
As much as I like my characters, some of them have to be sacrificed for the sake of the story. It is also more believable. (Wait until the second book, not everyone is safe.)
There is a reasoning behind killing off one of the characters in Normality Twisted. Anya had to know just how dangerous the entity inside her was. The voices in Anya’s head and the dark thoughts were not enough. To witness that death by her hand, Anya knew that the entity is true to her word.
Here is a quick insight into the second book of the series, Mages of Vane. More than one character will die in that book. One of which will die in a battle. The reason for this is simple, people die in war. Nameless and named characters alike, no one is safe on the field of battle.
