Updates From the Riverbank 3/22 - Pollen Together
While I count myself fortunate that I don't appear to be an individual struck by debilitating allergies, at least to the point of immovable misery, I do decidedly note the arrival of spring every year. While the vibrant colors are nice, they hardly compensate for the overpowering smells, copious legions of insects, and inscrutable weather patterns that descend upon my home quadrant of Oregon.
Still, my curmudgeonly nature aside, there is much to be said for this time of year. By other people.
It's been a somewhat slower month for me, creatively, but chapters of Tower of Memories continue to go up on my Patreon in advance of the book's July release, and the Atalan Legends audiobook is, at looong last, complete. If you're one of the few who even remembers my Seasons of Light novelette collection, you've reason to celebrate (assuming the remembering is of a fond nature)! Like the Vysea audiobook before it, said Atalan Legends audiobook is now available to all Patrons, and will soon be shared with the rest of the world upon more widely palatable platforms!
Elsewise, I've still been greatly enjoying my reread through the Star Wars Expanded Universe (Legends), gobbling up some lovely entries pre- and post-Thrawn Trilogy, as well as the graphic novel version of grandpappy Zahn's defining work, which I'd not explored before. That said, with all due respect to the late Mr. Tom Veitch...Dark Empire still isn't for me. It's far from the insult some fans feel it to be, in my estimation, and I value much of the characters and lore introduced, but the story still feels pretty weak. I know some fans love it, and more Force power to 'em! Just...nah.
Jumping streams, I've found myself growing invested enough in the Star Trek Relaunch/Litverse titles to have tracked down many print copies from locals stores, and the first Voyager entries by Christie Golden have been delightful, thus far. Again, I know some fans still love the new shows, but...nah. The books have just felt far more true to the world. I look forward to carrying on, even knowing the authors were cornered into a full reset!
The Licanius Trilogy was also a thoroughly enjoyable read, though, as with much epic fantasy I encounter, parts of it felt a tad bloated. Still, Islington clearly knows what he's about, and I'd likely try out more from him in the future! Of course, it would really just turn out to be some sort of time loop...
May April continue to bring us all opportunities, both personal and professional!

Updates From the Riverbank 2/22 - A Chill Month
A Chill Month
It seems February's abbreviated nature has caught me by surprise once again, and here I am writing my update on the first of March. My shame is proportional.
Anyway, things keep plunking along over here at Riverbank Publishing, with hardcovers of past books in the works, Tower of Memories ramping up its weekly-chapter run on Patreon and gearing up for a full release (likely some time in July), and production begun on the audiobook for Atalan Legends. And, of course, I'm plotting out and drafting my first go at the final book in Future's Birth. Seems like some pretty big things are happening as this chapter of Deyrnas' history comes to a close, so those who've stuck with me through the slow burn of the early books, I hope you'll be satisfied with the payoff of it all!
Arts and other hobbies have been a bit slower this last month, though I have dabbled in some simple 3D animations, as well as getting slapped in the face by Unreal's learning curve. Rachel and I also celebrated our anniversary by hitting some used book stores and filling up a box with new reading material. Oh, and we finally got our fence repaired after it got blown down in a wind storm...two months ago. You can count on us to be responsible adults eventually!
Wishing you all a safe and happy month as we head into spring/fall, depending on your hemisphere,
