Steve Chilton is a committed runner and qualified athletics coach with considerable experience of fell running and a marathon personal best of 2-34-53. He is a long-time member of the Fell Runners Association (FRA). In a long running career he has run in many of the classic fell races, as well as mountain marathons and has also completed the Cuillin Traverse. He worked for 42 years at Middlesex University where he was Lead Academic Developer.

Steve's work has been published extensively, particularly in his roles as Chair of the Society of Cartographers and Chair of the ICA Commission in Neocartography. It is time to review the blog after another year. I did fewer blog posts over the year, as the blog seems to be becoming less used by me (and less viewed by others – with 20% less views than 2024). Two stats: referrals came mostly from Search Engines and Facebook, with Twitter/X being virtually moribund now. For Twitter I have one account, whereas I can post notifications in a number of FB Groups.

Started reading this in accomodation we had in Cornwall towards end of 2005. Bought copy at Christmas and really enjoyed his take on 'his' county. Does concentrate a lot on south of the county, and has a lot on Plymouth (in Devon). Some good photos b ...more

Amis was writing in a style very much of the times (1990s). The characters are well formed and interact entertainingly. Not especially an Amis fan, but picked this up to read as an antidote to some seriously depressing recent reads.
