Grand Jury Duty: My Final Word

doge in space card redux

Give me the judgment of balanced minds in preference to laws every time. Codes and manuals create patterned behavior. All patterned behavior tends to go unquestioned, gathering destructive momentum. –Frank Herbert,Dune

I finished grand jury duty a few weeks ago, and I learned quite a bit about humanity in the process. I don’t like what I learned.

What I learned is that a grand jury is less of a shield for the defense and more of a dress rehearsal for the prosecution. That doesn’t bother me....

The Sad Tale of Seneca Village

I’ve wanted to write an article on Seneca Village for a while, but never got around to it. It’s an important part of NYC’s history, and a reminder that nothing happens in a vacuum. With great actions come great repercussions.

Fear of Success?

Sometimes I wonder if I truly want to be a famous author.

Of course it’s been my dream since I was a child. When other kids would run around at recess, I stayed on the side and wrote short stories. I lived in my imagination (and still do). But I wonder if success would take that love for writing away from me.

I think about the pressure that must come with a big time contract. Imagine hard deadlines that you have to meet or fail. Imagine that your career hangs on a string, every book has to b...

Sale! Watchmage For 99 Cents!

Hey everyone. I decided to have a sale on The Watchmage of Old New York for this week only. Why? Because I CAN!!!! Also because sales and reviews are falling off.

Sooo, the sale is on Amazon only, and only for the ebook. If you like my blog, you’ll probably like Watchmage. It’s the same writer, you know ;) You’ll also be helping a neat-o dude like me. I consider every purchase a hug (and each review is a belly rub…I love belly rubs)

A Poem For Katie (puns included)

Hey everyone. I write a lot on here about my late fiance, Valerie. As some of you know, she passed away 3 years ago last month. I’m not going to talk about that today. I’m going to talk about Katie.

For the past 9 months, I’ve been dating a wonderful woman that I love very much. I never thought that I would fall in love again, but holy crap, I did.

I’m not much of a poet, but I took a shot at writing a poem for her for Valentine’s Day (spoiler: she liked it).

To break up the melodramatic crap...

Unveil the Tail

I’m a little late to the game on this, but I continue to be blown away by how good ABC’s The Muppets is. Tuesday’s episode was brilliant, and they continue to top themselves every week. I don’t understand why the ratings are so low. Dammit, why do the shows that I love always have poor ratings?

A brief synopsis for the episode:

Piggy has a wardrobe malfunction at an event (maybe the Emmy’s or something) where her tail pops out of her dress. The media jumps on it as disgusting, and the network...

The Giant and The Goat

A warning: This is another one of my pro wrestling posts. It’s not about wrestling per se, but rather the brilliant performers that sacrifice their health to entertain us. Even if you don’t like wrestling, you might still like this.

Carry on.

On Monday, my favorite wrestler Daniel Bryan (real name Bryan Danielson) retired from in ring performance. A man that dedicated his entire adult life, suffered and climbed and martyred his body for us, and walked away from what he loved most. The reason...

I’m Back, Baby!!!

Thanks to my good friend Sean, I’m back in business. He lent me his spare laptop so I could write again. Of course, the first thing I did was putz around on Facebook. Procrastination never loses it’s appeal.

Hopefully I’ll motivate myself to start blogging again. There’s so much I want to talk about, from artificial gender roles as a form of Anima/Animus, to Search Engines as unintentional social control, to how great The Muppets are (UnveilTheTail). Oh yeah, I want to add more to the Watchma...

No More Jury Duty!

Yesterday was my last day of Grand Jury Duty, and I did an actual Snoopy dance when I got home. No, there’s no video of the dance, but trust me, it happened. If it was you, you’d do one too.

Unfortunately, I am still without a computer. I’m typing this from the lovely local library, but I have a scant amount of time. My routine is so thrown off from not having a computer, and I am lost without a routine. My brain is so chaotic that if I don’t force myself into a schedule, I’m scattered like D...
