The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross

The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles, #1) by Kady Cross
Chapter One of this book begins with the heroine Finley Jayne getting into a knock-down, drag-out fight with an abusive aristocrat and holding her own. And it is awesome. She soon joins forces with the chivalrous and wealthy Griffin and his companions, brawny Sam and the mechanic Emily, against a mysterious enemy called the Machinist. Added to the mix is the criminal Jack Dandy, who may be more than he seems. I love steampunk, and this is a fantastic adventure, mostly due to the fierce Finley and the chemistry between her, the clever Griffin, and sexy Jack Dandy.

YA BOOK REVIEWS

Since I'm only reviewing older or little known books (mostly fantasy), I'll be using this blog to review YA or newer books. :)

Daughter of Smoke & Bone
DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE by Laini Taylor
The lives of tough, blue-haired Karou and her likeable, demonic family change when Karou encounters Akiva, a young man with wings. The original twist to this demon and angel story is that the demons and angels are actually two different races. The villain Thiago is a hot-tempered warlord. The details of the Prague setting and the intricate creation of the chimaera (demons)are lovely. But it's Karou and her mysterious past that kept me turning pages.

Thorn Jack Summary

This came from my editor and I love it.
I edited the summary a little.

A spectacular, modern retelling of Tam Lin from an amazing new voice that will appeal to the many fans of Cassandra Clare, and Melissa Marr's WICKED LOVELY.

17-year-old Finn Sullivan has lost her older sister to suicide. Fleeing the memories, she and her father move to an upstate New York town filled with movie and theater folk, and the mysterious Fata family. When Finn meets Jack Fata, a strange and fiercely striking young man, he leads her into a secret world of abandoned places and enchantment. But attention from the Fatas results in dangerous consequences, and, to save Jack, Finn and her newfound friends must eventually confront Jack's family of ancient, nomadic spirits and unravel the secrets surrounding her sister's death.

Fans of Erin Morgenstern's THE NIGHT CIRCUS and Donna Tart's A SECRET HISTORY will love this beguiling tale of love and mythology.
