The Death of Tad Lincoln
Tad Lincoln and his Father, President Abraham Lincoln.
Tad Lincoln had just turned 18 when he died.
Tad in Springfield, IL
Tad Lincoln when he was around three.
Thomas Lincoln, (1853-1871) named for his paternal grandfather, was called Tad from the outset. It was a hard birth, and Tad was born with a cleft palate and its resulting speech impediment.
His early years were happy. His brother Robert was older by ten years. Three-year-old Eddie died six years befo...

The Death of Princes Alfred & Octavius and Queen Charlotte’s mysterious pregnancies
Our present Queen was not the only one to have an ‘Annus horribilis’, for King George III and Queen Charlotte theirs, however, lasted somewhat longer than one year. For them, the years between 1781-1783 could, without a doubt be described as being some of the worst years of their lives with the loss of their two youngest sons. Both parents were devastated by such tragic events.
We begin at the end of March 1781 when the newspapers reported that the queen was once again pr...
Tom Weston of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane
Alas! Poor Tom has tumbled off the perch,
And left his gay Thalia in the lurch;
Once high he stood upon the comic pinnacle,
But when he slipp’d fell – Scrub – Sneak – Last – and Binnacle
(Epitaph to Tom Weston)
Thomas Weston was an actor/comedian who graced the stage of the Theatre Royal on Drury Lane but so much of his life seems to be told in tall tales that he has, to a certain extent, remained a man of mystery. Two facts are certain, however. That he was a great comed...

A Folio for the Worst Day
September 22: the first day of fall, and the worstday of the Salem Witch Trials, I am aware of both markers every single year. The beginning of the end. In successive posts on this day over the years, I’ve tried to focus on remembrance of the eight victims, the last victims, who were executed on this day 325 years ago: Ann Pudeator and Alice Parker of Salem, Martha Corey of Salem Farms (Peabody), Samuel Wardwell and Mary Parker of Andover, Wilmot Redd of Marblehead, Margaret S...
London under Black Death attack
According to historical accounts, a bright comet, shot across the skyline of London in the winter of 1664… Fear abounded, questioning what events were to take place.
17th century London was much different, than we see it today. It was surrounded by a city wall, and gates located at; Ludgate, Newgate, Moorgate, Bishopsgate, Aldersgate and Cripplegate, which covered an area of some four-hundred and fifty acres.
Property varied from large houses with many servants, to...
Patsy Takemoto Mink
Patsy Takemoto Mink was a Japanese-American politician who spent decades fighting sexism and racism. She broke many barriers during her life, especially when she was elected to the House of Representatives in 1965 to represent Hawaii, which had become a state in 1959. Mink was not only the first non-white, but also the first Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) woman, in addition to being the youngest person to represent the youngest State of the nation in Congress.

A girl named Geillis
Welcome to Witch Season! Better late than never. So sorry for my lack of posts.
This is Geillis Duncan. Her name became quite popular with Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. These books are AMAZING and completely inspired my trip to Scotland two years ago (and yes, I tried to go through the stones- they wouldn’t take me).
In the books, Geillis is a bit of a nightmare- traveling through time to change the course of history while killing off a few people along the way. However,...
